I should add... I understand feeling the bitterness of something (religion, education, whatever) being shoved down your throat. But, being stuck doing positive things (religion, education, healthy relationships, jobs) shouldn't be a turn off from never doing those things again, as tough as that might be. We're lucky we had the chance at a high school education, an opportunity to learn religion or faith or values, and for the daily life things we have (shelter, etc.).
Not everyone has relationships in high school. In fact, high school is a super awkward and lonely time for most people. Relationships then are easily shallow, faltering, and impossible if you don't make the first move. People that young generally all are incredibly self-concious, and too worried about what someone else would think to go talk to someone who seems shy. People tend to assume shy people are stuck up, and could've. been afraid to talk to you, worrying what would be thought of them
Everyone wants a connection and understanding and to connect something personally. Humans can't do that. We can't unconditionally love someone. You can't, I can't, one's family can't, one's friends can't. Sure, some people try and do a good job of it, but not like God can. God can forgive, humans can't-- that's what grace is there for. I don't think it's possible for humans to understand the full grasp of that because we don't give others grace. Humans judge and don't forgive, but that's not God
That's frustrating and sad to feel so alone like that. I've been there, too. With people not believing, maybe it's because they can't understand grace and unconditional love because humans aren't capable of either. Humans have good intentions, but there's no human on earth today that can love someone unconditionally without fail. People have to be open to God and the idea of grace and salvation. A movie would be cool. Ever seen/read the Left Behind series?
How were you hoping the Bible studies with your dad would be more relevant? Some of the stories are boring sometimes, but there are promises and examples on how to live and hope in them. I mean, if a passage is about prostitutes, that might not apply to us... but the lesson of sin and forgiveness applies. That's one of the problems with society now- no one seems the Bible or faith as relevant, and society is in a shambles. Maybe you could talk to someone at your church and ask your questions?
