@RandomReviewer272 Type in Strider for X68000. It was a system only released in Japan I believe, but it trumps even this version and actually surpasses the arcade in some respects.
EXTREMELY faithful port of the arcade game, considering the Genesis' hardware. Never cared for the NES version. I probably would've liked it if it wasn't for blasphemous hit detection. I don't like the fact that when I clearly hit an enemy with my sword, it doesn't count, and I take damage as a result.
was a breakthrough game. first 5 or 9 meg game or something. capcom was known for megabyte pushing.
those wetre the days when all you wanted was the arcades in your own home.
now consoles are way better than quarter crunchimg arcades, which is sad somehow. no more meeting random gamers in stores. no more going out friday nights to play.
This game is not hard. The only part that's hard is the antigravity level where you fall into space. But then you just use the wall cheat. Strider is not hard. But it is one of the best games that ever existed!
It needs a remake and its kinda likly since capcom are remaking alot of there old games like 1942 and bionic commando, or maybe we might get a new strider since capcom have made a new commando and are making a new mega man mega man! we can only hope.
American Dollars - I remember I used to brag about it to my friends - "I have Strider for Genesis" and they would say "Whoa, damn you got money." Well I was like 13 1/2 when I bought it. Wasn't 17 years ago more like 16 - in 1992. Genesis was cool. I liked it always over Super NES. Totally dope and AfterBurner 2was bad ass. But the game I played the most was Road Rash 1 and 2. I wanted the music tracks from Sega for the Road Rash 1 and 2 but my video game friends have told me Good Luck there!
I lucked out on import version of Strider when the American version released in 1990. Die Hard Gamers Club ( game store which later brought us the popular magazine "GameFan" ) sold me the Mega Drive version for $40 saving me an additional $40! My Genesis was already modded to play Mega Drive games! I also found out the import version was a tad better than the American version. There was some sampled speech missing in the U.S. version.
the first home conversion (or port) of Strider that was arcade-quality, and just about as good as the CPS1 arcade was the X68000 version. (Japanese high performance computer)
X68000 Strider was MUCH better than the MD/Genesis Strider and came out (in Japan) years before the PlayStation1 port that came with Strider 2, and years before arcade emulation was around.
I played this on the Megadrive and completed it on hard with one life. A while later, I went to the arcade and played that version and reached the end boss on the end level with one life, while people watched in awe. A testimony to how good the Megadrive conversion was.
This game was cool. I like the bosses that you had to fight. I liked the hero Strider how he could hang to walls and stuff. I got the forest level then I died and it became bloody hard as hell, so I gave up.
nice vid, i was playing it 5 minutes ago :) This game is one fo the best! 5 stars... oh i would like others level video, if u can ^^ ...even so, if u see the story was changed by capcom... probably the enemy was not an alien, but the soviet union :/
lol the sound of the genesis was so primitive around 89-91 most sounds sound like farts XD

Game of the Year of 1990... rated by EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthy)
Strider is a pretty epic game... I find this version the best. Strider Hiryu needs more games.

If you think about it - the Mega Drive / Genesis hardware wasn't technically far off from Capcom's CP1 board specifications.

Truly amazing game. We used to spend hours exploring each of those 2D worlds. My favorite was that pre-historic level with the robo-T-Rex
