Hi, and thanks Ironjob. This '394 has no modifications. I've owned it from new, and I can say it has never even had the cover off. To be honest Ive never felt the need to do any of the mods, maybe if I had a second '394 I would mod one of them, but Im happy with this one just the way it is. Its served me well for a long time.
Hi, I love watching your videos on the DX394 I have just bought one and am very new to SWL I would like to know what lead I need to buy to connect to the PC and what software and where I can get it to use on the Pc?
Hello, thanks for watching and commenting. All you need to connect the headphones-out on the 394 to the line-in on the pc is a 3.5mm audio jack. Thats all. For software, just Google "MMSSTV" for the one Im using in this video, or "MMTTY" for RTTY decoder or "FRISNIT NAVTEX" for a Navtex Decoder, or "Seatty", or "WEFAX", for a HF Fax decoder. I hope you have a great time with the 394. They are very under-rated. Id never part with mine.
Hi mate. Well this here radio isnt really a scanner, its a shortwave receiver. If thats what youre after I'd recommend a DX394 'B' model, or a AKD HF3 Target, which you can get second hand £50-75. For scanners, Id stick with second hand and go for a Realistic Pro2004 or 2006, again 50 or 60 beer vouchers.
Why not use the tape out on the back of the 394? rather than the headset output?
Do you think the tape out is not as good quality?

Hi.. if i can ge tmy hands on this Reciever is it worth it?.. is it a good REciever?

If you can get an 'A' or a 'B' model, then yes, its worth it. The original 394 was poorly designed.

Hi hanglands, good stuff.
What scanner would you recommend to a beginner with reasonable features, and a reasonable price.
Cheers!

how did you connect your DX394 to your computer?
eduhat1 3 years ago
You can either connect the 'TAPE' out on the 394 to a mic input on your PC, or as in my case you can connect 'EXT SPKR' to line in on your soundcard.
