If I had to guess, he makes it look like he just waves them over the airtoms, but in reality, when he gets near them he flicks his wrist. hard to tell. Looks awesome though!!

If you clicked on this video you were intending to listen to 'Virgil'. He is an established drumming 'technician' (someone who plays the drums on an advanced technical level), and you're complaining about a lack of musicality. These players inspire others to reach new complex potentials behind the instrument. It is transparent of the people who have come here to simply criticise his playing, claiming they have been machine gunned although disregarding the skill level being displayed.

Though I agree that there is too much of this chops fest kinda thing that goes on at drum clinics, Let me tell you that Virgil can play! Maybe it sounded like noise because of the audio quality. But make no mistake about it, Virgil's groove is just as wicked! And just so it's clear, It was Virgil that inspired and influenced Thomas Lang, not the other way around.

This is just one part of a drum solo. Virgil's primary concern is quality of sound not speed.  Yeah he is playing fast here to turn some heads but to say Virgil plays the drums only for the sport of it is totally untrue. Listen to some of his music and then tell me he's unmusical. He's developed so far beyond your average contemporary player one can sometimes overlook his musical development. This dude is a musical god.
