  • What is your training regimen for this ride Mark?

  • @mtn0freek1 I don't do anything specific to train for this century. I ride several days a week pretty much year round and try to make at least one of the rides a longer one of 40 miles plus. We do go up into the mountains to ride every once in a while so that helps with the climbing. I've done about 40 century rides over the last 9 years so my body is used to it.

  • awesome

  • @pzanello Thanks! It is a really beautiful ride, even in the rain.

    Thanks for watching!

  • Hey Mark, I was checking out your times from your transponder 309th is damn good. Also 45.46 up Hogpen was great. I was their with ya. This was my first year doing the six gap. A lot of people decided to do the 3 gap because of the weather. I hung in their and did the six. I was way back in 736th place. I spent too long at the rest stops, but not next year.

  • @mdozier43 I had a good time on this year's ride even with the rain. I was slower than last year though. I thought I'd be faster up Hogpen but I think the rain/colder weather had an impact. This was my third year and I plan on doing it next year as well. It's a tough ride but worth the effort. Congrats on finishing your 1st!

  • If uphill had a face it would punch itm then go to a Mcy D's on the way back! haha thanks for sharing mark.

  • Loved this video, thank you for sharing with us. What did your official time end up coming in at?

  • @naturalswill Glad you enjoyed it. I had fun riding, even with the rain. I ended up with a total time of 7 hours and 24 minutes of total elapsed time and 6 hours 49 minutes of actual ride time. The difference is due to the few stops I made for food, visit the porta potty, etc. I was hoping to go a little faster but the weather, bathroom breaks, etc. slowed me down. I'm still happy with the time but I'll be back next year and I'll be faster!

  • Sometimes I worry about you......you need to relax w/ several cold or cool ones. Job well done.

  • @pinkync Don't worry about me. Believe it or not, I ride my bike to relax! Even though I work hard while riding, I finish the rides relaxed and energized. I used to race, which was a little stressful, but now I just ride for myself. The bonus is that I burn so many calories riding I can drink a lot of really good beers! I'm drinking an awesome Imperial Stout right now that I'll post next week. Cheers!

  • this video was dope

    mad props 2 u mark

  • @MidCity29Loonatik Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers!

  • Cool video, enjoyed it. Always wanted to do this ride, but I'm not nearly fit enough.

  • @jbrookeiv Glad you liked it. If you focused on getting some good rides in over next Summer you could probably finish it. They do have a "3 Gap" which is 50 miles but still goes over some good climbs.

  • wow im impressed !! what a work out man!!! thats awesome keep up the good work Mark.

  • @ticonbritt It was quite a workout but I love doing rides like this. Thanks for watching!

  • nice ride i dont know what its like riding like that. i ride bmx. looking foward to your next brew review. cheers mate

  • @toketokekill704 Riding longer distances like a century is one of those things that takes some time to build up to but it's not that hard to build the fitness to finish a 100 mile ride. This one was one of the tougher century rides out there and to finish you really need to be comfortable pedaling uphill since there is so much climbing. Glad you enjoyed it!

  • good video buddy sorry I almost missed this one :) ! yours Devin

  • @Bock148 Glad you enjoyed it!

  • looks like it was a good run except for the rain

Did you ever consider taking your other bike ( Specialized) due to the poor conditions or does the Cannondale handle better

  • @tccompaq The ride wasn't too bad. The rain didn't hurt much until the last 20 miles or so when the temperature dropped a little. I only ride the Specialized on shorter rides or on the trainer. The Cannondale is more comfortable on longer rides plus it is a bit more stable on the descents.

  • GOOD JOB MAN!

  • @Respekweed Thanks, it was a fun ride.

  • 135 avg heart rate over almost 7 hours is killer. I would have to sleep for a month I think. Good thing you were prepared with a jacket. Some of those poor souls only had their short sleeve jerseys!

  • @Imasofat I was definitely tired after this ride. I feel pretty much back to normal today though. I was amazed how many people didn't have any rain gear. I was glad I had my jacket, especially on the descents!

  • Looks like a fun ride. I am riding from Pittsburgh to DC in October. Fully loaded with camping on the Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Canal Trail. I'll definitely need a beer after that!

  • @AgileHProductions I did a 3 day "bike hike" on the C&O back in 1980 and it was a lot of fun, Unfortunately, I wasn't able to have a beer after that ride since I was 15 at the time!

  • Great job! Incredible workout! And thank you for taking us with you on your journey. You have such beautiful forests & mountain ranges in your country.

  • @DelusionalJ Thanks! I have fun filming my cycling adventures. The scenery is nice up in the mountains. I enjoy riding up there.

  • Your crazy, you fully deserve that big steak and beer. Ever think of self advertising your book at those events if they allow that type of thing when you have finished it?

  • @mavxr Yeah, I guess I am a little nuts, but I like it! I may look at having my book available at these types of rides next year.
