  • This movie is one of those few. One of the very few that deserve it's praise,a real movie that'll make you shed some real tears if you have the heart, and many emotions more too. All in all,and i know it's been said before. But this movie, will be one of the best movies you have the choice of sitting down and experiencing.

  • Dam this movie is sooo moving, one of my favorite movies ever made!

  • Its a shame that such a stirring song is wasted on a prison film.

  • @NYerintransit "The Shawshank Redemption isn't a prison film. A prison is just where it is set." ~ Gene Siskel.

    You obviously don't understand cinema.

  • @93MickyD2 Absurdity has taken over your mindset and you have lost control.

  • @NYerintransit How?

  • @93MickyD2 You're going to have to figure that out on your own.

  • one of ever movie I see in my life!

  • best movie ever created

  • Perfect!

  • This movie was robbed of Best Picture, Best Original Score, and Tim Robbins should have been nominated at least for either Best Actor or Best Supporting Actor. Just an amazing movie and score on all levels!

  • @kulu3850 wait wait wait........you sayin this movie diddent win anything.......jesus thats just wrong man its amazing

  • This movie had to compete with Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, and Stargate during its opening release. I don't know about you guys, but that's a big fence to climb.

  • @TheLighterDark True if it came out a year later it would of got all the accolades it deserves.

  • Dear Red, If you're reading this, you've gotten out. And if you've come this far, maybe you're willing to come a little further. You remember the name of the town, don't you? I could use a good man to help me get my project on wheels. I'll keep an eye out for you and the chessboard ready. Remember, Red. Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. I will be hoping that this letter finds you, and finds you well. Your friend, Andy.

  • If I could go back in time and change one thing, it would be to give this Best Picture

    over Forrest Gump

  • "The film provides a great illustration of how characters can be free, even in prison, or unfree, even in freedom, based on one's outlook in life."

  • i hope the pacific is as blue as it is in my dreams, i hope.

  • busted up a awesome solo for this on my guitar just now...i love this damn song!! lol....

  • I'm crying at last scene when best friends meet together

  • How could the movie get any better? Oh I know! Morgan Freeman as narrator!

  • Hope is a good thing, and no good thing ever dies...

  • the sisters <3

  • I dont understand how this movie didnt make a lot of money... !! its really good..

  • @claudiabolivarleon It grossed $28,341,469 and it's the number one of the 250 top movies of all time on IMDB (Internet Movie Database). I really don't see how that's not amazing.

  • @BBFalconShot dude sees when quantity become better then quality this movie is at the top of imdb because it voted my criticizes and people vote combined together for very good reason

  • One of the best film scores ever written. Long live Thomas Newman.

  • This movie is beutiful

what a master piece, how can you not like this

i would rate this movie the best movie ever made in the history

Just the story man just amazing.

  • I love this movie <3

  • @gaba21sz watched it 5 times yesterday..doh!

  • lol, anyone noticed that the best graded comments are the same ones

  • @CynicalCatharsis Naturally! lol xD

  • Shawshankism: If shit happens, keep calm & tunnel on. :)

Lovely score, thanks so much for uploading it!<3

  • We, as a nation of good-hearted people, accept with confidence, to pay the price required to hold criminals in jail indefinitely, when necessary, rather than take the risk of ending the lives of innocent people. In due time, those innocent will, hopefully, be granted the freedom they deserved, while the guilty shall be held as a reminder of our own collective responsibility in shaping a better future for the generations to come.

  • Man, I'm a 15 year old boy and I can't help but cry at this movie. Goddamnit. Amazing.

  • @Elliot0k ha me too :)

  • ugh i love this movie. this song makes me cry tears of joy

  • @dmoor21 there both excellent movies though

  • Hauntingly Beautiful!!!! Andy Dufrain.....came out clean on the other side!!! What an outstanding movie!!!!! Touches the heart and teaches you that anything in life is possible!!!!

  • i hope.....

  • I finally saw this film for the first time a few weeks ago. My university has a cult classics series going on right now and Shawshank was included in the line-up for this year. I was just beaming at the end. It's one of those movies that makes you really believe in life. And what a fantastic score.

  • Forrest Gump winning Best picture over Shawshank Redemption is a travesty!

  • 2 people will regret their lives from now on.

  • this song makes me feel like i can conquer anything. ily shawshank redemption <3

  • on of the best movies

  • 2 people got busy dying...

  • 177 people like this song. 1 corrupt prison warden pressed dislike.

  • Haha didn't know the same at of pictures rolled over and over again, totally obsessed by the spectacular masterpiece.

  • Great video and music! ;) It's my favourite movie

  • Nice music, but maybe you should teach yourself how to make a video without using the same pictures over and over again.

  • Comment removed

  • Does anyone else think of Brokeback Mountain before Shawshank when they hear this music? Because it was used in the trailer? I can literally hear Heath Ledger saying "if you can't fix it, you gotta stand it!' strange...

But yeah, Shawshank if by far the best movie ever :)

  • @Ameliaaa1993 This theme has been used in a ton of movies I believe...Ghosts of Mississippi, The Hurricane, All the Kings Men, Finding Forrester...Anyu others that I'm missing? It's great trailer music.

  • @JustinD43 make that 2. lol

  • 1st place on IMDb. Thank god this world did not lost its marbles in movies.

  • favourite movie ever =)

  • It's the Tim Tebow theme from Jim Rome

  • 1 person dislikes the most life portraying song? Why? I want this played at my wedding and funeral.

  • #OMG a goocl movіe to download it роор.su

  • I heard this song in another video and I had to find it immediately after that. I've been meaning to watch The Shawshank Redemption for years now and this song has given me the final push to go and actually do it.

  • This is what we all should know:

You can do everything you want, but you need 2 things:

    1. Real Friendship

    2.Hope.

    Remember that.

  • @JMProductionzzz

    1. Check

    2. Nope

  • @motoBeast

    1.Check

    2.Check

  • @JMProductionzzz

I want to travel to Mars, I got hope and Real Friendship.

  • The best film ever made! I honestly cannot think of a greater film!

  • Frank Darabont is pretty sick; this movie in particular had the music and acting talent to go along with the direction and script. People always use this as a reference to the old TBS--"yeah, they're showing 'Shawshank' and 'Rush Hour' again." Damn, go back to the old TBS lineup then, in my opinion. Beats the hell out of 6 hours of Raymond/Meet the Browns

  • I remember my very good friend of mine. Some scenes were closely related. And now hes somewhere out in one of the best islands in the carebean... I guess i just miss my friend...

  • the thing with Shawshank redemption was that the film had a low budget and at first was not very popular with the viewers but in time it became a classic so its the kinda movie that grows on you and my favourite quote from any movie is "get busy dying, or get busy living. that's god damn right." ^.^

  • Thomas Newman writes some amazing music.

American Beauty, Angels in America, Six Feet Under. Hes incredible.

  • @Fireleigh Yeah, unfortunately he still hasn't won an academy award for anything. He needs to though, dunno if it matters to him at this point though.

  • I'm doing Shawshank Redemption for one of my classes at college - it's a media course. It's really interesting learning about symbolism of the film and the different camera angles etc used in it.. I love the film as well... ending is so happy, but brings a tear to the eye!!

  • @Cinderella73 you only have one eye? Poor thing.

  • This end title track for Shawshank was so good, it was used it in the original trailers for 'Brokeback Mountain' . When I saw the BBM trailer I knew I had heard the music before and couldn't place it at first.

  • this music.....finds a place in your heart...i absolutely love this movie

  • This is the nr 1 movie on my best ever movie list!

  • Heh, I still remember I watched this all the time, at the end credits I rewinded it to the begining of the credits to hear this song over and over again..

  • Shawshank had some of the best soundtracks I remember. Great film

  • Can't believe it has been 17 years already since this movie came out.

But one thing that sticks in my mind in the theaters when I saw this was the bass sound when they played this song.

    It literally shook you.

  • mükemml

  • I keep forgetting how fantastic this theme is. One of Thomas Newman's finest scores.

  • "I hope..."

Why can't movies today be more like this and the green mile? Absolutly mind-blowing. Ive watched this movie so many times, in fact, im going to watch it now! =D

  • I don't mean to be politacly correct but,Im white and grew up an allmost black high school and i say all KKk groups and white supremecy groups are a Discrace to our society and should be in jail for life.just my comments.........Morgan freeman is a Brilliant man.

  • Agreed 100%

Morgan Freeman is not only a great actor, he is a superb narrator, his voice is recognized the world over.

    Oh.....by the way.....LETS GO ISLANDERS! : )

  • @mrceebees14

Im sorry....The Bruins ate the Islanders

  • @keithsmove They ate the Canucks, the Isles historically have winning record against the Bruins.

  • Because like the music of today, no one has anymore originality. They take music and movies of yesterday and re-do them, it's about the money, not the creativity.

Its a shame and I totally hear you bro........totally.

  • @mrceebees14 Yeah your right.. Speaking of re-do's.. Could you ever imagine a remake of the Shawshank redemption?? Agh, that'd suck big time.. Most likely they wouldn't use the same cast and a LOT would be changed..

  • Thomas Newman is a genius. A bonifide genius.

    And that's god damn right.

  • Or am I being OBTUSE

  • "For the second time in my life i"m guilty of committing a crime....."

  • by far the best film i've seen in my life

  • One of the finest films ever made!

  • @sansweet BULLSHIT. THE BEST.

  • Fear Can Hold you prisoner....

    Hope, Can Set you Free....

  • I hope the pacific is as blue as it is in my dreams.

  • GREAT MUSIC!

    GREAT FILM!

    Good old stephen king.

  • Great movie fellas!!! Brainy Banker!!

    F*** Warden!!

  • I think this should be the main theme!

  • I'd like to echo the sentiments of the other comments. A great movie.

Is it just me or, on the first promotional poster shown (repeated in the video), is there a small boy in a white singlet holding the back of Robbins'/Andy's shirt?

Caption: "Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free" (very true). Is the boy (if it is a boy) supposed to represent fear? Maybe Andy represents hope?

Am I dreaming? If not, who is the boy? If I am dreaming, what then is that white image?

    Comments welcome.

  • It could've been a boy from what you see in this video, but I have the poster on my wall, and I think it's just Andy's coat. If you google "shawshank poster" you'll be able to see it closer. But it's an very interesting thought :-)

  • Betsnipe,

    Hehe.. definitely Andy's coat!

It was a good idea to google shawshank poster. Should have thought of it myself.

Oh well, what the heck anyways. Made me think a bit :)

    Thanks for the clarification.

  • It's the reflection on his jacket.

  • Yep. I think its cleared up now. Thanks.

  • Get busy living... Or get busy dying...

    That's goddamn right.

  • Number one film on imdb baby.

  • And why the hell the Dark Knight stole it's place for a short while on there, I'll never understand..

  • The music score is tremendous,as is the movie. The "End Title" sequence (So was red and End title) evokes some of the deepest human emotions -- we hear counterpoint in conflict with counterpoint, with one winning out and the other moving onward, upward and beyond, and we care carried to the end, as Morgan Freeman put it, "... the end of a long journey." - marc in st. petersburg, florida, usa.

  • if you saw the film you'd know he didn't kill anyone, what a pathetic question you fool.

  • what kind of a stupid question is that? what women did he stab???? have you even seen this movie before? he got 25+ years for a crime he didnt commit. his wife was having an affair and a scumbag robbed his house while his wife was in bed with another man and the scumbag shot them both and the cops pinned the murder on andy. what the hell are you talking about b0grillaz?

  • beautiful!

  • Newman...i'll defend him to my grave!

  • i must have seen this movie over a dozen times.....greatest film in history if you ask me

  • I love that movie

  • Awesome song and movie. I've seen it six times, and it still gives me goosebumps..

  • Such a fantastic movie.

  • joder es la musica del trailer de brokeback mountain

  • I am glad they went with the uplifting ending instead of the ambiguous one in the book.

  • Exactly, I would feel so cheated if they had ended it like that (I think thats why it was changed anyway).

  • Best movie made !

  • r.i.p James Whitmore

  • this is the best movie I've never seen

  • "Get busy living, or get busy dying, that's god damn right."

  • @OnbekendGHC Damn right.

Fear can hold you prisoner, hope can set you free.

    Bloody amazing movie that is.

  • Credit to mbnymn for putting the soundtrack up! Bravo!

  • The ultimate triumph of human spirit

  • #1 on imdb

  • can anyone write down the name of the song??

  • Its called "End Title"

  • Can anyone upload this as a download for me please?

  • Just type "youtube to mp3" into Google and you will get sites that will convert this video into an mp3

  • "...some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright."

  • " I guess I just miss my friend... "

    :''(

  • For some reason... this soundtrack reminds me of Christmas... so much joy.

  • One word for this movie and soundtrack: Amazing!

  • şuana kadar izlediğim en güzel filmdi...

  • Get busy livin or get busy dyin...that's goddam right

  • One of the best movies I've ever watched, It's truely worth to be called ''one of the best movies''.

  • this movie got no academy awards, wtf

  • With the amount of nominations, it should of gotten at least one. Even though it deserved them all!

  • true awards are anyways reserved for fans' judgment. this movie has become not just a cult classic, a huge fan-favorite. Not having gotten any Oscars just cheapens the Oscar, not the movie. Remember, Gandhi himself never won the Nobel Peace Prize! Yet Arafat did...imagine that! This is my most favorite movie, award or no award.

  • nicely said

  • @fatcammy thank you. sorry, i'm a bit late on replying! :) looking back, a few months after watching the movie for the first time, god, it's still stuck with me. it is that good!

  • this movie has one of the best endings

  • so was red

  • "Brooks Was here"

  • "Get busy livin or get busy dying"

Such a legend song makes me happy every time!!!

  • god, what a brilliant movie, and one of my favorite sayings in that movie.

  • Rank this right up there with Cinema Paradiso, both beautiful movies, both great soundtracks, and both great endings!

  • which ending of Il Cinema Paradiso? the american version or the italian version......?

(the endings are actually the same, but the events leading up to the ending give it a different feeling)

  • I have seen both endings. I like the shorter version. The longer version tried to answered too many questions about what happened. I think it took away from the beautiful ending

  • absolutely beautiful.

    breathtaking.

    my god, breathtaking.

    amazing film, wonderful score.

It makes my heart ache every time I hear it, not in the bad way though. It's more of the excitement only a free man can feel, a free man at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain.

    =]

  • The same guy who did this score (Tom Newman) made arguably the greatest soundtrack of all time in the Road To Perdition. Just listen to "Road to Perdition," "Road to Chicago," "A blind eye," "Lexington Hotel Room 1432" and "Rock Island 1931." Especially the first two which are the most emotionally touching scores I've ever heard. They're all on youtube

  • it was on TV a few weeks back

i havnt seen it in ages

i cancelled some of my plans to watch it

  • Breathtaking soundtrack to a fantastic movie, the best I've ever seen. Andy Dufresne, just his name makes me warm inside.. truly something extraordinary

  • Question, does anyone knows the name of the song which is played when Tommy arrives in jailbus at the shawshank prison?

    Thanks

  • That's a good question. It was omitted from the soundtrack for some reason.

  • "Hand Jive" by Bo Diddley

  • the best film from stephen king

  • when i first heard this piece by itself i started crying.

  • I'm crying too now.

  • this is a beautiful soundtrack. it brings back all those great feelings from shawshank redemption... no doubt the best movie i've ever seen. absolutely beautiful

  • very beautiful

  • this was a great movie and is truley touching

  • maybe the greatest soundtrack of a movie ever created. it is for me definitly the most touching one

  • is there anything
