  • what's the top speed achieved? Looks very practical.

  • I want one!

  • I dont understand the roll bar unless youre harnessed into the bike. If it tips over you'll fall out of it, so why bother with the roll bar lol

  • I want one.

  • I am so glad I seen this. Janaia you took to the bike like a duck to water and whats more important you really looked like you were having fun. Thank you againg for another great video from peak moment

  • Quack! It WAS fun! And indeed easy to learn (esp. if you're already used to riding a 2-wheel bike). I always wanted one of those red Flyers when I was a kid in the fifties -- this was even more fun.

    Glad you enjoyed! ~ Janaia

  • this is charming...I would love one...

    small is beautiful!.

  • Awesome bike, looks like a blast to ride. That young engineering student was very good at explaining the technical aspects of this concept. I think he will go far.

  • Pretty nice recumbent trike (or "velomobile" with the shell on) they built, the next generation seems to be even more impressive, especially the (light) weight!

Anyone wanting to know more about (or buy one of) these, there are several manufacturers, just search for "recumbent trike" or "velomobile" (for the enclosed version) on Google.

Two-wheeled recumbent bikes are pretty addictive too.

  • The problem with recumbents is that you can't use a backpack. This simple hindrance is a major one for anyone going to school or work, as a backpack is simply too damn convenient to dismiss. Also, trikes are heavy to pedal on bad surface, weigh a lot more and are more complex. Additionally your back will always be wet if it has rained. Not to mention the extra space used in already cramped bike storages or lots. They're still fun to drift around though.

  • I've ridden my trike while wearing a messenger bag slung to the side. For heavier loads, there are always removable panniers.

  • I can't deny regular bikes are often more versatile. Parking can be a problem, weight is higher, your seat can get wet if you don't have a velomobile and you forget to use a rain cover, etc.

But there are applications where they make much sense. In many cases a recumbent bike/trike is faster. It's definitely a more comfortable seat. For touring, for longer commutes to offices or rides to supermarkets with good bicycle parking, they're very nice rides!

  • I have not seen a Peak Moment video in my subscriptions area for a long time. I occasionally check the channel to see if one has come up. We should not have to do that. Why do some channels get featured in the subscriptions section?

  • We uploaded this video and set it to "private" until we'd added the description. When it was set to "public", apparently no message was sent to the subscribers. This used to be what happened, but apparently no longer. We'll have to post them as public for you to be notified -- sorry to have many subscribers miss this wonderful program.

Thanks for keeping an eye out for our shows!

    Janaia

  • Thats an interesting bike

  • same here i just saw this video in my subscription

  • Awesome design and workmanship but I wouldn't dare ride it in traffic. If a car hits you on a bike, you'll go up and over the hood but the same car hitting this HPV would run over you and the results would probably be lethal. It looks like it really flies though.

By the way, this video didn't show up in my subscriptions. I only saw that you had new videos because I clicked on your channel directly. Time to complain.

  • About the safety: I had a recumbent trike (before I switched to a two-wheeler recumbent :-P) and rode it in traffic. I did everything to be visible, so I had a flag, very good lighting and light-colored/reflective clothing. I also watched out very well. Kept my hands at the brakes. When I felt someone didn't see me, I waved to attract attention. I never felt unsafe on the trike, a lot of the safety depends on your own behaviour.

You ride a trike like a responsible driver would drive a car.
