He was a 1st year tenor. The original plan was all of the tenors were to loosen up their J hooks so they would drop simultaneously.  Of course he was double-crossed, thus being on his own.

Note the center tenor being the only one that looked at him...laughing.

Judges don't deduct points. They probably will if you just leave it there and it trips some other people. You would pick it up and leave the field all pro and confident like you meant that to happen and join the pit randomly. play cymbals or something lol. or just stand all pro like an idol.

I think what they teach you is to to pick up all the stuff that fell, get out of the formation so nobody runs into you, then put the drum back on and get back in the show and continue to perform the rest of the show like nothing happened.

@Taztingo no you see. penalties are for if the show is to long or short or if things are left on the field. my 1st year at marching band champs the group b4 us threw confettie all over the field for there drum break.... real frikin cute lol. so that group got a 9 poin penalty/deduction.they took last, we took 1st. hahaha so yeah he couldnt have gotten points deducted for picking up a drum.

this is an ENCORE performance, so no judges, so it doesn't really matter if you pick them back up... yeah i think they just popped right off the j-bars... at my first football game of my senior year as DC my partner dropper her tenors and fell.. so it was a rough intro to performances for her.. but she sprung back up and laughed about it. You aren't a battery drummer if you haven't fallen or dropped somthing :D
