  • Great video that nicely showcases Permaculture Ethics and Principles! I am a pioneer member of an intentional community currently being formed and actively searching for more certified permaculture designers, as well as other like-minded individuals, to add to our team. Search "One Community Ranch" to see ALL the details of how we are creating open-source blueprints for a sustainable civilization and "A NEW WAY TO LIVE"! Much LOVE, Respect and Gratitude to US ALL for ALL we are doing!! <3

  • "Systems that can meet human needs while regenerating the land - that's the goal of Permaculture."

  • Thank you for this informative permaculture video! Yes, it's a must to have - "systems that can meet human needs while regenerating the land around us." There are enough resources for everyone, we just need a new model to follow. Please check out our open source sustainability project (sustainability nonprofit -org) and feel free to use any info that will forward your cause. Thanks for all you do for our precious mother earth and her beautiful people.

  • I like terrice desighns i havnt bought land yet but dread settlin fir flat when i do but this just got me thinking if i build a cob dome house i can make my own hills

  • I notice that there are still a few people around, advocating the venus project. Truthfully, I'm really not interested in it at all any more, although I was for a while, and saw the films/hung out on the forum for a bit, etc.

The founders of that are very dogmatic; and none of Fresco's designs have been recorded for people to duplicate, at all. Unlike Permaculture, TVP is basically a dead end.

  • Wow that farm looks wonderful!! Could anyone recommend some good videos to me on guilds and polyculture? Also has anyone here heard of or tried hugelkultur? i was wondering about the C:N since logs have alot of carbon. :) Namste

  • @superbong69 hugelkultur works great. a more refined approach to creating a high carbon/fungi-dominant soil is called a "static pile" (static compost, as opposed to thermal compost or vermicompost(worm) ). If a plants root zone is in the hugelkulture/static pile then there will be proabably be signs of nitrogren deficiency, but you may amend the soil around plantings with a nitrogren rich, slow release fertilizer like feather meal. depends on the height of the berm and the plants

  • Type Sparxism into YouTube to witness the beginning of the Permaculture Revolution.

  • The venus project is similar to permaculture if not the same ideas sustainible future and society.

  • @fabrizioorbezo She says, "over the use of fossil fuels or heavy chemicals".

  • I serious need to do something like this, get out of that pesky office and go out and do some farming!

  • Yeeeeeeeeee-haw!

  • This is the future of Earth civilization ... without big mega cities, without a 9 to 5 workweeek, without Wars, without poverty, without lack of anything... We will be spiritual beings living on the land like we did thousands of years earlier. We will not have churches but will spend time each day meditating and learning who we have been and will get advice from our spirit guides. Namaste

  • @jaworskij Agreed! This is the way I see the future if all works out!

  • @jaworskij What's so sad is that self-sustainability has become a lost art. We have to take classes on how to feed ourselves! When did our society get like this and how did we let it happen? We somehow became a society of greed and competition, sort of like when forests are cut down and the remaining animals have to fight each other for food. I watched a documentary about a drying water hole on the African desert, and animals literally had to fight each other for a drink. How sad that is.

  • @CimaraNyx

You should watch Zeigeist Moving Forward, it's on youtube. The movement promotes a resource based economy and I won't go on about it here, but I really do recommend you watch it. Isn't it ironic that a greedy, competitive and individualistic society with an obsession with consumption calls itself to be civilized. We need to start living harmoniously with nature (and each other)

  • @jaworskij Sounds like heaven to me :)

  • @jaworskij I like the sound of that!

  • @jaworskij

Assuming the water, soil, air, and species are not all destroyed.

  • @jaworskij

    LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!

we will all serve the Masters until death.

  • @fabrizioorbezo fossil fuels (oil, coal, gas)

  • @fabrizioorbezo fossil fuels (oil, coal, gas)

  • Can someone here message me about this? I need more info!

Just kidding mates, I am turning into permaculture and using my bike.

  • Thank you for subscribing! All the best, Amanda (Book Restorer)

  • i wish when she said" Putting the the plants and the herbs we need most often, close to the house" shoulda shown a big o.g. kush growin next to the couch lol

  • @WAL5HIT lmao

  • BEST VIDEO EVER!

  • There are some small ponds at 1:39 - any chance of hearing where those are? Pretty please?

  • how do u protect the fruits to be eaten from birds if u use no no chemicals in Permaculture? thanks for the tips..

  • I searched angry video game nerd and this came up.......WTF!?

  • LoL earthactivistas the elites HATE people like you because you dont depend on THEM or the system. Teach what you know to others so they might branch out =)

  • Chicken in cages, I would say because of the same old issue that chicken have to survive from since they exist : FOXES

    ;)

  • I've watched at least a half dozen videos on permaculture and I'm at a total loss as to what it is. I haven't seen any ideas that aren't centuries, if not millenia, old. I've read books that are 150 years old or more by US writers that talk about the same ideas. I've seen documentaries on small-scale farming in South America that has been using the same concepts presented in the videos for many hundreds of years.

Put your herb garden close to where you're going to use it?!?!?! Come on!

  • Merci pour cette magnifique vidéo!

    Je suis totalement convaincu!

  • Experts needed to discuss natural gardening methods Cheers :) naturalgardeningforum, com

  • What a garden!!!

  • maybe they are protecting chickens from bobcats and coyotes in the area?

  • Got to tour his home 2 weeks ago...Wow! He's sharing space with some of his neighbors/friends which is making for a fabulous food forest!

  • pErMaKulTuR3 4 lYfE

  • i am totally going to live like this!! far away from that satanic cult you call the government..

  • i dont belive in trying to create any type of system. let nature take its course. we are nature. to believe we are not a part of nature is arrogant. we are as much a part of nature as a mint plant, or a pig. so any actions we take are natural too. and if we alter earth in a way which makes it uninhabitable for us, then that is natural too. and we will die, naturally. maybe a few will survive, yet another definitave branch in human evolution. it doesnt matter.

  • The animals will destroy the plants :) , no animals allowd in :). if you drop in the composed poo from cows and horses will be more better. I don't know whay you spend so much time for this.

  • Apart from the hippy-douche-baggery I liked the video.

And, all hating aside, I really do think this is a good solution to current problems. I thank you for the upload and will strike "starhawk" from my memory if only because I can see good intents here.

    Peace and love.

  • I am against the all-out war on nature made by the polluting factories and big oil projects, but I have to remind you here that CO2 relation to what's supposed to be called the global warming or lately called the climate changes isn't yet scientifically determined. But at the end of the day, your style of living is really so promising and it is a reminiscent of what our grand grand fathers and mothers used to live and interact wit the earth.

  • if you want a great dvd for a good price just go to my channle and click the link under the trailer

  • i hope one day every lives like this

  • Is permaculture better than agriculture? I read that agriculture is very destructive to the soil.

  • Beautiful!

  • This is great stuff but can it work on a large, commercial scale?

If it can't then it will always be relegated to hardcore enthusiasts and hobbyists.

  • Comment removed

  • It can and has done so.

  • Yes it does (there are already many exampes), but it doesn´t work in the same way. it has to be acompained by culture change of both producers and consumers and producers. Doing this you will not become millionare for example, but life gets better.

It will not be relegated, it is growing (sometimes under other names). Also, the world is about to change.

  • @eitkoml If it works, it will work on the commercial scale. it's more demanding of us as individuals for us to learn what to plant together, and to be aware of the permacuture system, which is a working system.

  • @eitkoml One of the ideas is that people become more self sustaining, its amazing how much you can grow in a very small space. It is in fact large scale farming thats more wasteful.

  • I love permaculture. I'm creating a forest garden here at home. But... Sorry luv but it's not science it's a philosophy. It might use science (sometimes), but calling it science is a misunderstanding of what science is...

I like it all the same mind.

  • It is kind of a design framework and guidelines IMO. Good luck with the forest!

  • Sure, design framework is a much better description, and I think it could work on a large scale but you'd need a lot more farmers than we have today. The impracticalities of harvesting loads of different kinds of crops from the same bit of land presents the main problem. I'm up for more farmers and smaller holdings. Bring it on...

  • I am disturbed by the banner at 1:21. Communist symbol and writing with Pan African colors. Is that a cross below the hand? What is that doing there?? This is a train wreck. I know this is not the official banner for permaculture, yet using old divisive symbols for permaculture is silly.

Maybe a new symbol for Permaculture is in order.

  • Thanks. An old river runs straight. Can I therefore design a straight path or does it need to "meander like a stream."?

  • Visionaries of peace can not emerge in the marketplace until competitive private currencies become legalized. The true creators of credit do so with their imagination and with the capital of their ideas. It appears the process of monopolistic force can not be stopped, and the continuance of blind production shall guarantee our destruction.

  • @LordCAG I fight for freedom daily and in every movement I make... I won't stop your pursuit for magic chocolate rivers, and I don't chase Utopian ideals

  • WE celebrate diversity (note: all white folk!)

  • @maxxiscopolis

1:16 to 1:20 not all of them are white

  • @maxxiscopolis there were japanese and others....

  • Permaculture is a great idea but what about the city folk who have no back yards or front yards?

  • I have a friend who grows tomatoes and herbs in pots on her apartment balcony in Amsterdam. Sometimes people who have yards will let someone else garden in part of it. Many towns and cities have community gardens where you can garden a plot. Permaculture speaks to more than just growing food; reuse, energy efficiency, stuff like that.

  • @antoconno community gardens - petitioning local gov't to allow their establishment in local parks - should be easier these days with the economy!!

  • @antoconno even an 8x3 foot balcony can produce a fair amount of food using permaculture, i think bill mollison said it would feed 2 people 1/5th of the food they need per year, but if we planted permaculture gardens in public places that would help too

  • How do I get down like this? Is there a place I can go?

  • Some people see permaculture as hippie stuff, I see it as a science, its all about doing gardening in a way that's sustainable, you carefully plan everything so that everything works more efficient. which means less cost and less work. permaculture is being used all over the world with great success, by people that do not know what a Hippie is, by every religious and political background, its about survival and Independence from corporations.

and most permaculturist I have seen eat meat too. -

  • Most people are under the delusional belief that the world is going to continue the way it is, well heres the news folks, we have reached peak oil production, and without a sustained production of 100-200 Million barrels a day modern farming will collapse. I highly recommend viewing 2 Documentaries ( no hippies don't worry ) "A Crude Awakening" and "Food Inc." then you will see why this isn't about hippies and peace on earth. not that there is anything wrong with those things.

  • Ja bi si napravio neku vjetrenjaču ispred zgrade pa ako netko zna kako neka mi javi!

  • I am extremely interested in permaculture design. But it seems that EVERY BLESSED VIDEO on it is full of, pardon me for saying this, about a ton of Hippie Horsesh*t.

Is Sepp Holzer the only person involved in permaculture who isn't a new-age lunatic? Aren't there any other rational, scientific types in this movement? Can't we just talk about trees and ponds and rocks without any nonsense about "healing the planet" or healing our souls? I just want to grow food wisely, not become a hippie.

  • lyletuck why does it bother you so? Does the fact that there are people in the world who care about healing the planet & our spiritual connection to Nature threaten you in some way? If those things don't interest you (which seems a little sad to me) then just learn what you want and live and let live. Since when did caring about things like nature, peace, love and kindness become tantamount to evil? Something has gone seriously awry. Pardon me for saying but that attitude bodes ill for humanity.

  • No.

Dancing and chanting when there's work to do offends me.

Holzer is a permaculture STAR, and I've never seen him chant or dance ONCE.

Anyway, since I posted this, I found videos from Geoff Lawton, too. No dancing or chanting in those videos, either, and they had ACTUAL DIAGRAMS of what they did to green the desert.

  • @lyletuck geez, ever see people working in traditional africa or a lot of other traditional societies? ever hear the song '15 miles on the erie canal?' work and song have gone together since time immemorial, it's a part of human nature - get off your puritanical high horse.

  • If you don't agree, where's the point in your superficial verbal agression? Just go your ways and be happy, maybe at least noticing that there are people aware of healthier ways to live.

Also, instead of us guessing whatever your insinuations are about some 3 ethics... how about naming them clearly and exposing your possibly twisted thinking, so you can get answers, which you so desperately seem to be looking for.

If you're not looking for healthy answers you might as well work for Monsanto.

  • How about you spell out your rant correctly, like:

"I believe what them hippie motherfuckers want was population control, so ultimately them want to kill everyone and me, bloody Nazi environmentalists."

I believe you're very enlightened and my neurons are just about to give way to the seeds your planting.

    :o)

    Red meat vs. permaculture?

I guess you could talk for hours and we'd still learn something new every single minute.

I am an obedient disciple to your profound wisdom..

  • Comment removed

  • LOL! I think your wasting your breath on LordCAG, some people make up their own demons so that they do not have to face reality. in the little minds of these kind of people they may believe that hippies are going to force them to change their way of life, instead of actually facing the fact that their lifestyle will force them to change whether they like it or not. in their world everything is black or white, and everyone that doesn't think like them must be the enemy. just plain ignorance.

  • Comment removed

  • What's it with the hippie fear? Why is a healthy lifestyle even being hippie? Or if it is, what's wrong with that? What princliples or tenets are you against or afraid of? I find them to be great and worth developing, being underdevelopped in my life as of today. Is there a part of yourself that you'd rather not show, potentially in conflict with permaculture? I really don't understand your fear or complaint, but I'd really like to understand. I don't find life to be just a straight formula.

  • Hi,

just look for videos of Bill Mollison, he´s analytic and scientific rooted in deep allround-knowledge (just have a look at his 600 page "Permaculture Design Manual" ) - guaranteed no hippie stuff it´s kina..hardcore :-)

  • Thanks! I've found videos by Bill Mollison and by Geoff Lawton. Plus, there's some dude from Arizona who knows a lot about water harvesting, and he has great videos, too.

  • You can do permaculture with hippies and you can do it without hippies. There are tons of permaculture teachers out there teaching in a variety of ways. If the hippie stuff turns you off but you like the basic idea of permaculture, find a non-hippie permaculture teacher.

  • I would guess the reason to cage chickens is to protect them from predators

  • There are many moving away from manure fertilizers due to the issues with bacteria. Most of the large commercial buyers will not take any produce even from fields that have a deer visit. Then you have some vegans who prefer their food not be grown with animal products.

Composted manures work well, but we are organically certified and must comply with Federal rules... tedious, very tedious.

It's been four years since we've brought in manures. It's different, but we're used to it now.

  • I like meat.

  • One solution I have seen is to use temporary fencing to create areas where the chickens are free to roam without damaging the garden. They are also great at preparing the garden before planting...eating weeds and bugs, fertilizing, turning soil.

  • I don't see how the chickens can mingle with the garden, in reading Fukuoka it seems he was letting ducks and chickens roam... but the problem with chickens is they like to take baths in the dirt. They dig holes and dust themselves. Won't this ruin the landscaping?

  • Their waste product is the fertilizer.

Their digging and picking help to loose the soil.

They get ride of pests in the garden.

  • If you are referring to the video about Connie's Garden, i cannot answer why she keeps chickens in cages. I can guess it has to do with limited space. I am also unsure as to whether or not she eats them.

  • @earthactivistas The chicken was very little. We have free range chickens who run all over our garden but when they have chicks they have to be protected from predators until they are bigger so it could be why the chick is in a cage?

  • Woderful! I'm planing on doing the similar project.

One question: since you propagate natural way of life and you try to sync with the nature around you, why is it that you imprison chickens? Can't they live a free life like you do? What is the purpose of their imprisonment?

    Thanks.

  • There are many different points of view about partnering with animals. I'm not sure if you are referring to the video with Connie, which takes place in an urban setting, so her chickens probably don;t have a lot of space. I do know, from keeping chickens myself, that they prefer a safe enclosed place at night, which protects them from predators, and that during the day I always let them out in the yard or garden.

  • I understand. My grandparents were doing the same thing. However I still didn't get the answer to my question: what is the purpose of keeping them in a cage? Do you eat them or just their eggs?

  • I know I'm very late in replying to these questions about chickens--first of all, Connie keeps rabbits, not chickens. I do keep chickens, as does Erik. Especially at night, but even during the day, there are so many predators in our area--raccoons, foxes, bobcats, cougars and coyotes. Within the fences, they have plenty of space to roam, dig, and sunbathe. Starhawk

  • @kakudmi They were baaaad chickens. They' re doing 5-10 to pay for their crimes

  • @kakudmi It is either cage the chickens, ducks or other animals, OR fence each individual plot of plants, chickens like any other animal, will damage the plants. Pecking at the new fruitings etc.,.

  • @kakudmi It is either cage the chickens, ducks or other animals, OR fence each individual plot of plants, chickens like any other animal, will damage the plants. Pecking at the new fruitings etc.,.not to mention to protect them from predators, like cats, fox's, basically depending on which area your in.

Personally we have lost chicks and ducklings to neighbors cats, bang bang. Bad neighbors.

  • @KingRyltar not realy I seen a farmer have chickens as a way to keep the bugs in check sine the chickens ate the bugs. The farmer said the chickens help keep the bugs down, but yes they also ate some plants, but the chickens keeping the bugs at bay far benefited the farmer with his plants.

  • @KingRyltar I do keep my chickens penned, but it doesn't really look like a pen. They have a coop to go in at night with nesting boxes, but they have an area of my yard that is just theirs. It is mostly shaded, and when I clean out their coop, the raw manure and straw goes into a heap close to my garden. Then, after it's had a chance to compost, it's handy location allows me to just toss into the garden bed. this is different than the kitchen garbage/grass/leaf compost I have in anther area.

  • @CimaraNyx sounds good.:)

  • thank you from my heart

this is the simplest and clearest and most feel-good of all the wonderful permaculture video i have seen

shall share widely - this good news, this great vision that we witness unfolding into reality at miracle speed

  • the earth is SO very capable of providing abundance for all if big govt, big energy/oil would get out of our way!

  • We need large organizations but only for the good of all. For example reaching the stars not controlling our lives.

  • i'm guessing that the idea of a swale composting system is to water the compost pile for faster 'processing'. anyone know?

  • If you compost in your swale it not only keeps the compost moist but then the swale can be a great place for planting various things, and the compost is already there!

  • This is awsome. If you like the idea of abundance for everybody then the Venus Project will interests you as well w w w . t h e v e n u s p r o j e c t . c o m This can be the answer to end poverty and clean our planet by using only sustainable energy sources.

  • Neat!

I love those key words here - "sustainable abundance".

At what point did we forget all this? Kudos to Eric, Starhawk and everyone at EAT for your important work. I hope to join you someday!

  • Beautifully put together, a great intro - well done!
