  • Hey Mark! just landed on this clip of yours. Congrats! hope all is well. Seem to remember hearing this tune of yours with Max up at Phoebe's studio

  • @dowsemeister

    Hi there. Thanks man!

Still playin with Max. New release out in 2012.

  • Curse you 240p!

  • this is so ridiculously groovy :D

  • @F8H

    thanks

  • Did i memtion that this song reminds me of Bozz Skags?? He's soooo ultimate groove!!

  • 2:36 She's feelin it! This kind of music makes me talk like an Afro-American, it's uncanny!

  • Marcus seems like... "yeah go on tech talking... i start playing in the meanwhile"

  • nice. money is made in first position. support. support. support.

  • love this!! I saw Marcus LIVE for the first time in santa Barbara last week... WITH George Duke AND David Sanborn... nuff said!!!

  • pro grooveeeeeeeee

  • That's what i call "feel good music"!!! I just recently got put on Marcus Miller. In high school i played Bass clarinet (symphonic & marching season), percussion & bass guitar in jazz band,so this man is instant love for me! Thanks for he post,i look forward to more "feel good music"!

  • to all the haters.... this is marcus miller funkin it out with manu katche, Frederico Pena... Jesus what fuckin more do yo want? Bounce that shit.... :)

  • This is what a jazz bass is supposed to sound like!

  • 2:54... Damn!! Marcus is SOOOOO kickass!

  • When he said the chorus was b flat thats all it took, cause Marcus had the hook.

  • the guitars, is he using auto-wah?

anyone have a good guess on his gears?

  • Rehearsing isn't as important as musical chemistry.

  • The best this song will EVER sound! Pity the next bass player!!

  • Good Shit! Good Voice, Good Music! Love it!!

  • @fdscasti 4 weeks ago -agree with you-they're all good musicians, funky song and Marcus, the great musician he is knows how to compliment...probably at home with the biggest names and playing with the local praise and worship band...what a gifted, talented bassist...

  • The only thing Marcus is no good at is playing bad.

  • @markdlowe that and playing punk and grindcore. but probably he would kick their asses as well...

  • The singer isn´t bad at all, nor is his guitar playing..

    Great performance.

  • At 4:59, we can see Pascale Picard grooving in the crowd.

  • Please remove this video. So embarassing for Marcus to play with those guys...

  • @andycarcola I disagree, they are all very good musicians, just open your mind. The drums, keyboard, guitar and singing are all great. Im sure Marcus enjoyed playing this song, that's what makes of him a great musician.

  • Very Nice

  • THIS is music

  • Who cares what color the artist is, the color of the groove is funky!

  • Is this white guy serious or is he being facetious?

  • @illouie You know wuts really SAD? As funky as this groove is, there are folks that are HUNGUP on the color of the artist, rather than just admiring the art. REALLY SAD !!!!

  • @LBass5 Well my friend, I'm not one of em. If I had said, "Is this GUY serious or is he being facetious", then how would you know to whom I was referring. I don't care if this so-called artist is white, black, green, or yellow; I was trying to figure out if his performance is supposed to be a joke or something. Marcus is awesome by the way.

  • @illouie The reason I know who you were referring to is because 1, you didnt say," is this guy", you said,"is this WHITE guy". And 2, there are only two guys, the white guy and marcus. I believe, bassed on (play on words) who marcus miller is as an artist, if this cat wasnt serious and was trying to be facetious, marcus would have peeped dat when they were back stage and wouldnt have gone out in front of the audience to play with him.

  • @LBass5 Man, who gives a shit. The white guy is horrible. End of discussion..

  • @illouie WOOOWWW!!!!! YOUR RIGHT, I mean about END OF DISCUSSION

  • Admirable performance by Marcus. The singer needs to be thrown of stage. He can't sing.

  • @trivediu urghhhhhh. . . yes he can, im no fan but that boy can sing and his lyrics are creative than most.

bit up his own arse, yes, hand you that but he's not a bad singer :P lay off him abit.

i love Marcus' tone, you just know its him, you know it more than his actual voice.

mahn, i would love just to throw down those sick tunes.

  • Can anybody figure out what the chord progression is?

  • @RangerMoose7 the changes you asked for:

though he says it's in Bb, he should say Bb minor...

    verse: Ebm7 ( IVm7 ) jam ... then chorus:

    ||: Bbm7 ///, // Ab m7, Db7, GbM7 ///, // Cm7, F7#9 :||

(the dude don't know his theory, cuz he says it moves

to the relative major durin' the chorus, which it DON'T)

  • @TaberShadburne K mate

  • @TaberShadburne

i think he ment that the II V in the end is of the relative major~_~(although it be from Bb melodic minor).

  • @TheBassMan533 ~ huh? the whole tune is in Bb minor & never leaves it

(except for 2 beats: the II V of VI)... i think he's talkin' about when it moves

from the Bbm7 down to the GbMaj7... but that's actually just the VI chord

in Bb minor, not the relative major (which would be Db Major)... there's

no modulation, anyway... just a passing II V of VI....

  • @TaberShadburne

The tune have one part in Eb minor (more Eb dorian) and a part in Bb minor

The Eb part is not a IV of Bb, it's clearly a tonality in itself. There is a modulation between Eb and Bb tonal centers across the song.

Long dorian parts happens often in funk, and I would not consider the opening part as something in Bb minor.

  • @TaberShadburne who cares?? if you caught it just keep it to yourself. sheesh. he got to play with marcus miller and you're sitting at home playing with your willy.

  • @TaberShadburne

The Ebm7 doesn't function as a IV degree of Bb minor.

It's more a I in Eb dorian. It's very common in funk.

  • that is sick .... i bet marcus never rehearsed that solo man ,.....str8 from the heart!!!

  • Marcus Miller and Manu Katche are groovin' so nasty it's gross.

  • does anyone know name of that light with 7 bulbs??

  • it's not fair! why is marcus so good? nice song.

  • how can people dislike this?

i feel sad for them.. :(

  • porn music ftw.

  • that bernard wright album is ridiculous. He's still doin his thing in dallas, and its killin

  • Share what you believe in with people you believe in and something beautifull will ocure!!. Great compliment to the groovy mind of the guitar player!!!!

  • if someone can't groove with this, should check him/her self if it's dead or alive.

sorry for the bad English but I guess you get my point:D

  • @whiteeagle1973made I can't. I'm a sucker for 70's and early 80's funk, but this weird fusion with jazz and sound of everything just doesn't jive with me.

But Marcus' early stuff with Bernard Wright and Tom Browne? Forget about it. It's amazing.

  • Nice fat pocket, funky

  • cool to see Marcus pick up a song and then play it like that

  • Great stuff! Although I am disappointed that the video is marked as "Marcus Miller's" when this is an original work by the guitar player. He should be getting credit in the title of the video, instead it only says "Marcus Miller- Bounce" as if Marcus wrote it.

  • @basssalad

    thanks man!!!

  • @ palooka4u. I agree %100. The man just got it. And the best part about it, he's humble. And that's cool.

  • ...is there bass beyond Marcus Miller?

Since i heard him on an Al Jarreau gig in the 80's, i do not think so.

  • marcus creates such a huge pocket, the band is practicly sitting in his pants,

  • guitar-singer-man.... cant be pullin off that funk too well

  • BRILLIANT BRILLIANT . The groovemaster speaks !! Nice song too

  • Comment removed

  • 0:30 to 1:20 >> just one minute and he immediatly understood the rythm and the groove of the music, marcus is just a genious

  • @funkrock94 well he said he liked his record; he probably know the song a little. anyway he is incredibly fast. one of the reasons he was a popular session, live and studio musician before he became living jazz legend.

  • @funkrock94

    one minute ?

seemed to me it was more like one second ^^

  • @funkrock94

maby because it's the same chord progression of the tune "sunny" ;-) no... he's one of the greatest anyway.

  • @funkrock94 that isnt hard...thats practicing playing ACTUAL music not scales or chord theory

  • When you understand theory and chord progressions, its easy. My music teacher can jump into just about anything

  • CHARLIE MURPHY! lol

  • nice funky jazz they should do more vocals on their tracks sounds good maybe a diffrent vocalist though..

  • if you saw this live you would never beleive marcus heard it for the first time backstage. Being pro isnt just about how fast you can tear through a solo, it takes alot of musical knowledge too!!

  • Ageed.....Eflat it is! But wut a Pui##y gtr player!!!! Hold ur own....

  • i hate how ducky this dude's guitar sounds. and his voice ain't that either. but that bass...mmmm

  • ...Fairly sure Marcus has tuned his bass to Eb for this song.... Took me a while to figure that one out lol.... Great groove as always!

  • i love it when he goes, "im musically intimidated" and miller goes "yeah whatever" HAHAHAHA just like saying "thats your problem kiddo, lets play!"

  • 0.21 im a little musically intimidated, ...marcus. Right !!

    creased me up

  • dude improv at its best

  • this song is shit, but marcus miller kicks the songs ass with his amazing groove soul power

  • this song would be sh*t without bass,actually without MM's groove ;)

  • marcus is the man love his tones

  • du bon

  • He seems almost bored with how easy the song is to play.

  • Hahaaa!! That sudden pause break at 2:29 was the money.

  • Comment removed

  • Filthily, disgustingly groovy!

  • @evildave9000 Indeed...

  • this whole thing is one big groove monster.

  • so right - Marcus is so great !

  • fuck yeah man.

  • miller is best jazz... bassist ever

    WHO'S THE SINGER??

  • Damn, Marcus is a great bassist... he may not play as crazy as Wooten, but I know I like Miller much more!!!

  • @PimpMyFahrrad

Marcus is more grove centric then Wooten.

Wooten is all about more lead.

  • maybe that's why I like him more... bass is all about groove for me...

  • Me to man, like Miller, Pastorius, Bona and them boys are the best but wooten is gay hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • @qqstar999 wooten has that reputation, but in general it's really not true, he's also recorded a load of stuff where he stays in the background. Miller's grooves do tend to be a bit more in your face and punchy than wooten's, though.

  • Marcus is the man!. My favorite slap player, i love chops buuut groove first!, i love MM phrases, so unique.

  • 1:17...... (Y) LLÉVAME...!!

  • Bailas?

  • YES.....(y)...!! SIN PISAR AH! JAAAA :p

  • Miller is good, even one of the best there is, no doubt about that.

But I have never liked him, and i dont know why. I guess he just doesen't have my bag.

I'm more a Wooten, Clarke and Alain Caron kind of guy.

  • @Wetter02

I undestand you liking victor, but Clarke and Alain. Please bro, you can't mention them in the same converstation with Marcus!

  • Well apparently we have different opinions, and i respect that.

I think we better leave this conversation in its current state before it blows up to be one of those riddiculus youtube debates.

I hope you agree with me ;)

    /Wetter02

  • Agreed. Atleast Alain didn't come back up in the conversation. Have a blessed New Years Bro!

  • Actually without Louis Johnson or Larry Graham there may have not been a Marcus. Based on just listening, you can tell Marcus was influenced more so by those cats than Stanley. Let's look at resumes and discographies. Marcus stands above all these cats! It's all good, we all like who we like. It's like comparing Dr J. to Michael Jordan.

  • @4strings4me

are you kidding? without stanley clarke there wouldnt be a marcus miller or victor wooten.

  • sexy riff. very smooth

  • Great..very groovy...sounds a bit like Jess Roden

    Blue eyed soul

    MM is always the best...

  • I like the instant when Mark explains to Marcus his melody.

Marcus is impressive, he finds immediately a very groovy bass line.

    Amazing...

    (sorry for my bad english)

  • I loved how quick he was able to do that...it was like "instant groove"...

  • J'adore le moment où Mark explique à Marcus la grille d'accords.

Marcus est impressionnant, il trouve immédiatement une ligne de basse ultra-groovy.

    La classe quoi...

  • la classe! c'est ce qu'on apelle avoir du metier!

  • The song reminds me of Jamiroquai and the guys voice is like JK!! Loving the whole song. Well done guys.

  • damn there 4 guys should do a real band and go on tour.

I'd go there for sure. marcus is just killer. like the nice chilled groove as well as his bad ass solo.

  • Comment removed

  • who is this guy? I'ld love to hear more songs from him..

btw I'm not talkin' bout marcus but this white guy.. :)

  • Its Mark Robertson

  • I've found out that till now.. thanks anyway.. btw, I see him only on myspace, he is not popular at all?

  • Manu Katche!

  • Dumb WhereverYouComeFrom Ass.

  • Kick ass rhythm, I love Marcus Miller

  • how did you manage Markus Miller to Sit in with you dude. That's CLASSICO

  • Marcus brings the feel and the groove by the boat load. Marcus doesn't just work the pocket, he is the pocket.

  • "He is the pocket" best definition ever man!.

  • HA!!!! love this comment. MARCUS is for real the master of pocket playing. I think its funny how this guy is all "starstruck" and marcus has this chill look on his face like he just came out of the womb and he don't know where he is...love it...

  • @palooka4u Couldn't of said it better.

  • what style of music would this be? genre?

  • funk maybe?

  • Jazz Fusion

  • probably like Acid Jazz

  • that rhodes player is NAAASTY....and mr miller? well, mr miller is mr miller now, isn't he? (not too into the singer/songwriter, but that's just subjectivity...)

    fun vid.

  • is this some kind of a joke? why is marcus playing in this shitty band

  • exactly!!!!!!!! but they sound pretty good.i guess it's just an over seas good will gesture.i do the samething with bogus french bands too.lol

  • Wow ! a shitty band ????? are you crazy man ? Frederico Penna on Rhodes is a top musician...he's the "personnal" Meshell Ndegeocello pianist since many years...SO GROOVY !!!!! In this track Marcus plays more basic just like in past...funky feeling...don't always need some "BIG" riff or "demo"...THIS IS NOT A CLINIC ...! This "only" a band plays for FUN ! And this is the RIGHT way to make music. Anyway, this is only my opinion I'm not God or a music star just only a little shitty musician :-)

  • this gig is way below marcus miller the guitarist cant play a note

  • THATS MY IDOL !!!

  • Marcus is just like this music... Groovin'

  • Nice groove and it's really good to hear that Marcus can still play some melodic things instead of soloing all the time. Still miss the days when he was just laying the bottom with the likes of Lenny White, Bobby M., Bernard Wright, Luther Vandross, Grover Washington, Jr. etc. He is still the master though and his bass sounds like a bass unlike the other super bass players as I think theirs sound too hollow and clean and when they pluck the G string it sounds horribel.

  • a real pro, pro,by the way i like the bassline.

  • that is Marcus Miller

he just gets it straight on

  • Marcus is fantastic, so musical...there's a guy in Poland ,is name is Wojtek Pilichowski, and they claim that he smokes Marcus!! what an insult to such an amazing musician...Marcus Miller is a gift to all musicians today, totally inspiring.

  • noone can "smoke" Marcus on bass! much less play at that level!

  • stanley clarke ron carter eddie gomez

  • each sick. i give extra props for mentioning eddie. (i'm in Puerto Rico)...don't forget rufus, victor (and victor) and avishai....and a few others. :)

  • And Marcus miller!

  • hehehe. yeah...what does that even mean? people just have the need to turn it into a competition.

  • Marcus---> Da-Man!

  • Totally cool

  • Every Marcus Miller performance and collaborated project inspires me to keep playing my bass. -Long Time Follower and Fan

  • Damn fucking Marcus !

  • wow amazing

  • Marcus is muh daddy. lol. :-P

  • What a sick bass line he whips up in no time.

  • Thank you for having the generosity to share this. Peace.

  • Seeing miller having to learn this guy's song on the spot was so inspirational. great video and song.

  • that is what legendary is made of. Right on the spot and improvising.

  • The best bassPlayer in the world!!!

    Good Groove from Italy!!!

  • my mm jazzbass is also white :), but not sounds as good as in the vid.

  • I love this !

  • Wow. A guitard that's humbled by the bassist!

  • such a sick song amazing. Im a huge MM fan, but in this vid he seems so boring and lack personality. (before anyone leaves me a negative message, im tralking about this video not all!) lol

    5/5*

  • This guy is just a little bit nervous!! hahaha! That was funny...I'm surprised he didn't faint or something! I know the feeling though. When I 1st met MM,I tried to say as little as possible! haha!

The song is smooth and funky, kinda reminds me of Hall & Oates' "I Can't Go For That"

  • WOW!!! I love it!!!! What a beautiful song!!!! I should check out more 'bout this guy!!!!

    Ty for sharing!

    Fabio

  • AWESOME !!!
