Hi, I'm a total beginner to Djing. I'm just wondering if all DJs do this whenever they are mixing? I thought they just throw in stuff on the fly. Or do most dance floor DJs use "cut and drop" method in clubs?
@forever211325 Im as confused as you are mate, depends on what genre i think, i often phrase mix because I like having my mixes tight, Most new club music has this
There are 4 beats to a bar and 8 bars to a phrase.
In the vast majority of house music records a minor change will occur on the 1st beat of a new phrase. Major changes mostly occur on the 1st bar of the fifth phrase.
So, if you know that an intro to the record you are bringing in has 4 phrases or 128 beats before it "kicks in" and the outro to the tune you are playing has four phrases, then you can bring the next record in seamlessly.
he means music is broken down into bars of 4 beats that repeat 4 times. each bar brings either a new sound or does away with one.. picture a staircase that goes up 4 steps then down 4.. by the time the track is about at the second to last step.. you want to bring in the next track or staircase to maintain a constant flow of music.
you ok bud i have been watchin your videos for a while i know how to beat mix practising counting beats but i never know when i hav to bring it in as the outher record is goin out if that makes sense ?
and yes.. i have read your PLEASE READ!!! article.. but to count however many wotevers in a track.. still takes the same amount of time if the pitch of the track remains the same.. no...?? lol
A real bar in music is 1,2,3,4 but to count like that through a 12" would take ages. why would it take ages using this method! I hope my question makes sense to ya's
i use to do it like that but i found it alittle easier just counting the "claps" or "snares" in the song.. 4 claps/snares = 1 bar Its the same exact concept and after you do it for awhile you'll automatically know when the 4th bar is over . . . .
hey men, im great with the sync thing cuz ive been practicing a lot.. but the thing that i want to know, is about the music... as an electronic music dj i want the croud to always be dancing and having fun, can you give me some advice of what music to put or things like that, hope you understand my question
Not very clear question but. For underground stuff you play what you like and try to stay on top of the listeners by listening new releases first and picking them up before party people hears them. For Mobile, club, bar djing the top-40 stuff and classics are the ones make people dance.
Well it depends ofcourse are you searching for top-40 stuff or the more underground stuff. Think most record stores has the 40 stuff but for that underground stuff beatport, trackitdown then directly on the labels pages usually there are also many other. Tutor has couple of vids where people post these links also on his pages there is links page.
Hey you whos asking why hes playing with the pitch even thou the records are in sync, thats beacause when you realese the vinyl it wont be in the same speed, beacuse it needs time to speed up and stuff like that so therefor (i just push it) you need to get it up at the right speed, i guess jonathan moves the pitc very high for short while, im to clumsy and cant hit the same spot with the pitch fader again so i use the spindle or just push the record ;-)
hey, sry if this sounds stupid but i noticed you playing with the pitch on either record while they where playing however they were still in sync and it came in when you wanted it to? im confused. i understand about bars and stuff its just getting the records in the same speed which troubles me. cheers if you can help
if your getting decks then u have rythmn in u and u know your beats , u dont need this counting shite , u know what bars are without even knowing you do
Then I have also seen other people that say you have to mix 16 beats or 32 beats, I guess they may also be mistaken with people that like you say 4 bars and 8 bars...
32 bars (128 beats) mix can work well (My 32 bars is your 8 bars).
If you use CD players, a song with a BPM of around 128 will have its last 32 bars at around one minute remaining which makes a really good mix as well mostly if using extended versions.
The good thing about the video is at least I can see how you are counting this, and see the error BUT if you are for example a newbie that knows that a measure is 4 beats, and then read it somewhere that you have to mix 4 bars, he will actually mix this 4 bar as 16 beats, which at 120bpm is only 8 seconds of mixing and even less if the speed of the BPM is higher.
Looks more like 16 bars/measures to me, just wonder why you say its 4 bars, I have seen this error many times, you are mixing 64 beats here, there are 4 beats per bar/measure.(Well in music theory at least).
new to djing, and am confused. how would i do this if i was actually in a mix? Not having the privilege of being able to stop both decks. great videos, got me all excited about getting my decks

there are four beats in a bar, but not always 8 bars to a phrase, it depends on the music.

Be aware that not all tunes have 4 phrase intro or outros. It's just a matter of knowing your music!

errr.. i'm dubmbstruck by u again! the track on the right.. u are counting 4 bars. in actual fact its 8 mate.
and err.. the same goes for the other deck too..!
the tunes are in the signature of 4/4 . meaning 4 beats to the bar.. 4 to the floor or however u wanna put it...
u are basically sayin here that these tunes are about 60bpm. most 4/4 music and house in particular is typically around the 120-130bpm mark
Not dissin your skills or intentions here.. but misseducation is work unpaid..!

ellaskins 4 years ago
@ellaskins Aren't you counting phrases
dont you mean 4 phrases instead of 4 bars when you referred to backing up the record
I thought that 4 beats made one bar and 4 bars made a phrase
or have I been taught wrong ?

this video is kinda confusing me isnt 1234 2234 3234 4234 a phrase so its 4 phrases and not 4 bars?
