I happen to believe the American political system and media outlets have been corrupted even worse than the average American realizes... there is little reason for me to believe most of what any establishment-friendly Republicrats say.
Maybe i'm too cynical. Or maybe most Americans have their heads in the sand, and SHOULD be more pissed off about what is going on. Too much reality TV!! Obomber - Mr Hope and Change - has proven to be a disaster for this nation, scarcely any better than GW Bush.
This guy seems to misunderstand a great deal. Moreover, isn't it interesting how easy it is to speak when you aren't the president. I doubt he would do half of what he says. He makes it sound a little bit too simple and he needs to remember that he would be answering to a GOP party.
@themightychickens He never said that. He said we should remain vigilant toward the threat of Al Qaeda, but he DOES NOT think our military involvement in Afghanistan, Iraq or Libya has anything to do with that.
@themightychickens Exactly. You need to hear it again. A: Do think Al Qaeda is still a threat to the US around the world, where ever it may be and its affiliates? G: Well, you know, I don't want to uh, I don't want to mistakenly speak. I don't want to misspeak. That's what we should remain vigilant toward. I don't know where that threat is, and I don't want to misspeak to that threat, but I don't think it's military involvement in Libya, Afghanistan or Iraq.
He seems to be a good man. I think I prefer Dr. Paul though still. I haven't looked at this guys record personally. He says he has a good record but would still have to look at it. I know Paul has a record I have payed more attention to and support and is impeccable compared to many of the others.
@neoplasmax Look at Johnson's record. His resume is much better than Paul's. Johnson can beat Obama, Paul can't since Paul signed the far-right-wing-social-conservative SBA pledge to appoint cabinet members based on a pro-life litmus test instead of picking the best person for the job.
He's too careful about what he says... at least Ron Paul says exactly how he stands and doesn't give a shit what anyone thinks. This guy is clearly groomed to steal votes from Dr. Paul. He is libertarian-lite.
@bobshenix Oh how true. This guy is very sharp. He is specificaly targeting all the issues that liberal US citizens have gries about. Can he actualy do anything about it. I don't think so.
I met Gary Johnson twice last year in my state of MO.. Once when he spoke at UMKC and another event he spoke at Missouri Southern State University. in Joplin Mo. He took the time to answer all my questions and sincerely listened to my concerns.. He is obviously working harder than the other candidates! For this he has earned my vote and support!
I believe Governor Gary Johnson is Obamas biggest threat. Its really hard for Obummers re-election team to paint a pro-choice, pro-gay rights, anti war GOP candidate who wants to legalize marijuana as a right wing extremist. His socially liberal stances will be attractive to democrat and independent voters
He's also well read and thoughtful. He admits when he doesn't know something or when he doesn't have the information available. This is unlike most politicians I've seen. He's genuinely the first politician in twenty years that I've been impressed by.
@TheAmazingTroglodyte Nah, I don't think so. Just look at Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich and Bachman. All they can talk about is war and sabotage. No, It just seemed like Bush and Obama were sane because the media made sure that no one ever asked them the tough questions they should have been asked. Gary Johnson and Ron Paul get asked tough questions all the time, and they always have good answers. Which is why the media doesn't like them...
@Ahrraminh Of course they were. That asshole is guilty of treason. He attacked three countries without even asking Congress, because he thinks that the UN, a foreign government, can give him authority to fuck around across the globe at our expense. He should be in prison awaiting execution. But treason seems to be the fashion these days. So of course he lied. Every dictator is well-versed in duplicity and deceit; that's how they operate. We're just his "useful idiots"...
I think we should do the opposite. Instead of getting rid of the corporate tax for everybody, we should close the damn loopholes and actually punish people and corporations for tax evasion.
Oh but wait, that might affect the politicians' tax sheltered money too. Damn, so much for that idea.
@BigDamnHeroesSir I think getting a lot leaner in our budgetary constraints and cutting taxes across the board would probably be the best decision. I think we should start cuts with Congress' salaries, but good luck getting a majority to vote for that bill.
@mrgeestacksalot And Gary Johnson isn't a "johnny come lately". He ran on this same message back during his first campaign and, at the time that he was elected as Governor, RP wasn't even serving in congress. While they have similar messages, Gary Johnson definitely didn't suddenly decide to become a libertarian because of RP's 2008 campaign.
Great Interview! I love that they are calling out Obama for the embarrassment that is a constitutional law professor trampling all over the constitution.
@mrgeestacksalot but yeah, im a little pissed that he would continue and take votes from ron paul, before the primaries if he knew what was good for the country he would end his campaign and endorse ron paul. But splitting the vote among them is a foolish thing to do. RP is more articulate anyway and is a much better campaigner so even though their governing would be similar, rp is my vote be default.
@Lunartechno My support is definitely going for the former governor with actual executive experience and building a multi-million dollar business from scratch. RP is great and I was proud to be a manager for one of his presidential campaign offices back in 2008 but Gary Johnson is the man that this country needs in the oval office.
@Trassin their terms would have close to the same affect and ron paul already has all of the support, maybe rp will withdrawl and support gary jhonson? i realllly doubt it, we shouldn't dillute the vote between two libertarians
@mrgeestacksalot why is he an assclown? his job as governer has been amazing. he has basically all the same key beliefs as ron paul with the exception of certain technicalities, he's my second choice.
@Lunartechno Yeah he tends to stumble a bit and so he doesn't always come across that well when he's addressing an issue. He's still my favorite though.
Not another one of those Austrian asshole, free market types who want more corporate tax cuts!
Giving rich people more money will NOT create more jobs!
If you follow their screwed up logic, then the USA should be in excess of jobs because the USA has the widest wealth gap in all the industrialized nations and Americans dominate the Forbes Richest List.
Low/middle class entrepreneurs who feel financially secure and have human capital take risk and generate jobs meaning high wages & free education
@harveybirdmannequin If you asked Gary about your specific concern with the removing the corporate tax he would bring up the fact that the large corporations aren't paying the corporate tax right now anyways. They simply hire teams of lawyers and accountants to find loop holes for them. His reasoning behind removing it is that it would create a level playing field for the medium and small entrepreneurs who can't afford to hire people to find the loops holes, to help them compete with huge corps.
@Trassin Not only that but corporate taxes only really effect the workers, if you look up the statistics the place where the big bad CEOs get the most money is from capital gains, corporate taxes just cause lower wages or less hiring or worst case scenario, higher prices, though that is really the last place they'll look for extra money if they're really desperate. Capital gains/income tax would be more effective at the goals liberals are trying to achieve in the first place.
Even if Gary Johnson loses this time he's still a winner, he shouldn't give up and try to run again for 2016 because sorry Gary but I'm voting for Ron Paul in 2012 primaries. I really like what he has to say, and I think he has the most common sense out of any of the 2012 candidates. Ron Paul isn't going to run again after this one so I think Gary Johnson shouldn't give up if he is defeated.
Gary Johnson is better than Ron Paul on some issues...hate to admit that but paul has had some questionable issues with women's right to choose, gay marriage, gays in the military, and separation of church and state...
@CelticAlphabet You're confused about what paul said. He doesn't want a group to have rights, the rights belong to the individual. Why is it a hate crime if a gay person or black person got murdered. Murder is murder. He wants to legalize gay marriage, have gays in the military, and separation of church and state. As for women's right to choose, he's personally against it but he even admits that's not going to happen.
amazing interview, Alyona has clear questions, and this guy seemingly gives clear answers of his political views. However I don't buy into the fact of eliminating corporate tax. How the hell can we repay debt if the richest people and the corporations don't start paying their share? The middle class and poor folk already are burdened as much as they can be
@Itallgoes2me Gary has talked about the point that you bring up, Itallgoes2me. He points out that, right now, the richest people and their corporations aren't paying the corporate tax. That, because they are so wealthy, they simply buy teams of lawyers and accountants that can find them ways to get around the corporate tax laws. His goal by removing the corporate tax would be to allow the middle and small corporations to be on equal footing with the "big guys", to level the playing field.
