I love Dog Eat Dog. So unfair that most people don't understand how brilliant all of her work has been, especially the 80's. Her social commentary makes you pause, and think, and feel.
Dog Eat Dog was a good album, different because she had comments to make on issues, but perfectly valid. I was actually glad to hear songs like 'Tax Free', personally... Joni seems to sing what she feel.
This song is more relevant today, 22 February 2011 than it ever was. 'Call for the three great stimulants of the exhausted one's...artifice, brutality, innocence'......
oh my goddessssss. this is my most treasured album ( DOG EAT DOG!!!!!!!! waaaaah. someone borrowed it and she lost it!it was still records era) this cut sounds so different, this arrangement.......sigh. double sigh........whatever joni sings....she is soooooooo timeless........
yes, dumb dumb me made that mistake i will forever regret, horror of horrors...back then, i was excited to share my joni joys w friends....wow.... you possess the diamonds of all her vinyls in perfect condition? you better keep those treasures under super lock, key and guard dogs! or devious ones like me might attack your priceless treasure kit while you arent looking....! ****evil evil laughgter****
Cool, thanks for this posting henhenstoll, much appreciated... Joni and Wayne, wow, and who is that on the keys, don't tell me it's Herbie Hancock, looks a bit like him, but no... or yes?
just read dreamsofhaegum's comment, it seems this really is the dreamband i couldn't quite believe was accompanying Joni, with Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock in it and all those other big names, wow what a precious clip, thanks again..
Thanks for posting this. This clip is from the June 3, 1989 'Our Common Future' concert at Avery Fisher Hall in NYC. It was a five-hour concert with a live global telecast, intended to raise awareness about environmental issues.
What a band, Herbie Hancock, Omar Hakim, Wayne Shorter, Larry Klein, and? I can't make out the guitarist. Looks and moves a bit like Andy Summers. Great words as always from Joni.
When you can get a pickup band with guys like Herbie Hancock to show up, it would seem that little more needs to be said, right?

I don't know much of Joni's jazz period. I love all of her stuff. She's an amazing person and a legend.

Truly one of her underrated albums. It's not her "uber-folkie" stuff, but the subject matter is still revalant, unfortuately. This song Rocks!!!
