Green bay has always from day one been a dirty cheating team. When They win they cheat. Even this year. Look what happened in the playoffs they didn't cheat and Rodgers mister discount double choke got humiliated
The '84 '86 GB/CHI games were intense, even Mike Ditka & Forrest Gregg talked smack. They HATED each other! Although GB lost almost all of those games, they were fun to watch. In '84, GB had to start randy Wright (2nd string QB) & CHI had to start rusty Lisch (3rd string) due to injuries & Wright had to leave the game in the 1st/2nd quarter. Payton ended up playing QB for a good portion of the game as well. 3rd string GB/QB rich Campbell threw a "duck" to Epps to win the game in the last 2min.
Kind of sad, without McMahon they used various other QB's like Tomzack, Fuller, and then Doug Flutie who would start the game against the Redskins in the divisional playoffs. Without McMahon, Flutie was ineffective and lost 27-13. Hell, even the Bears would have won that game against Washington, they had no shot against LT and the Giants that year.
I'm amazed that so few people remember this. It still creeps me out, the amount of time that passes between him releasing the ball and getting dropped. Homeboy saw that the completion was made and just took a revenge shot.
glad the dirty fuck is dead, this is why i hate the packers and the fans. Drunk, Fat and Redneck. Call me evil, Martin obviously didn't care for human life so why should anyone care for his?
Today, the NFL takes this very seriously. The late-Charles Martin was a prelude against targeting opponents against the ball. Years later Commissioner Roger Goddell, Paul Tagliabue, and the league did a real job against this, although this is an extreme contact sport.
I don't condone illegal play, but... I thought I heard that once there's an interception, you can hit the quarterback? The play was over within a second of the interception, but maybe he hit him at that exact moment. It could still be unnecessary roughness, I guess...

@babblebah321 I am a Packer fan. Charles Martin had a lot of talent, yet I agree he played dirty. However, don't act like the Chicago Bears hold themselves to a high standard of sportsmanship. As far as penalties I'd put the Bears in the same league as Detroit or Oakland.

@babblebah321 I'm a GB fan & I agree, it was an asshole move, a total cheap shot. Having Gregg as a coach didn't help but Ditka, Hampton, etc... talked just as much smack during the wk. I think this was the game where some of the GB defensive players wrote a list of Chicago players' numbers that they wanted to "take out" on the long towels that they wore on their waists, if i'm not mistaken.
@babblebah321 You must have missed the NFL films interview where Butkus admitted to trying to break guys necks as he was tackling them. But I gotta commend your spelling... that's pretty good for being drunk!

@raypowersmusic Wow you really got me with the "football." My point was that it's shameful to hate on a PROFESSIONAL team, player, coach, etc. just because they run up a score in a game. If the opposing professional team doesn't like it they should be better at football. There's no room for principles and honor in a multi-billion dollar industry.
@ qbdogkiller , he won a super bowl hello ? How old are you. I watched beard live year before I also saw giants as well rykm get a life . Still a cheep shot that ruined our chances to win again!!!!!
I take that back--looks like the Packers only had four games left, per a listing of their schedule on Wikipedia. Still, this guy should have been out for the rest of the season for this, and maybe the first two games of 1987. Dirty and unbelievably dangerous play.
Wow. How'd Martin only get two games for that? Not only was it well after the ball was away, but it was on artificial turf, magnifying the likelihood of injury. Martin should have gotten at least five games for this.
even though i'm a packers fan, this guy's a piece of shit. reminds of this other piece of shit named Suh-sie. idiots like them ruin the game for everyone, even themselves.
This is the beginning of the end of the career of a very talented football player. The Packers have always been a character team, and this led to Martin's release.
I also wonder if the Packers added McMahon to their Favre/White era Superbowl-winning team years later as a make up of sorts.
@TheLawlbreaker I don't think it was, at the time McMahon was the best available QB in free agency and the Packers only had one reliable QB, Favre. So why not sign a QB with playoff experience and was a game manager in case Favre was injured?
@LeotheOrangeCat matt flynn could do it. and comparing mcmahon to rodgers is a disgrace to rodgers. mcmahon was an average QB who made it a career being on the injured list
@docj09 Rodgers > McMahon but each has or had a similar importance to his team's ability to win a second consecutive Super Bowl. Maybe McMahon was more important to the Bears because you say the GB back-up could get it done; the Bears could not repeat without McMahon. The fact that he already had an injured shoulder made the body slam on his shoulder all the worse. Why shouldn't the Bears return the favor?
@LeotheOrangeCat because it was 25 years ago and it's time to get over it. Rodgers is still more important to teh team than McMahon was, Green Bay is just smart enough to have a capable back up on hand. And 85 was a career year for him and he threw for like 2200 yards, 15 tds, and 12 ints. Can't tell me they couldn't find someone to replicate those numbers and just hand the ball off to Walter Payton
@docj09 McMahon did more than just hand the ball off to Payton; that's what Fuller did which worked until it didn't in the first playoff game. He was a decent passer, which the was somenthing the Bears had not had for years. It's a mistake to just look at stats. McMahon was a catalyst for the team. The whole team played better when he led it.
@LeotheOrangeCat Thats true. But it's unlikely the Bears would have won multiple championships anyways. They MAY have won in 86, maybe, but their window would have closed after that. Walter Payton was already starting to show his age on the 85 team, he was retired by 87. They would have won 2 at the most (including the one they won in 85)
@NightmareXander do you realize what you just said? How good he is. You made the notion that he is good. How is Cutler a man? He stayed out of the nfc championship game when they played each other last year because he was "hurt". The real man was Caleb Haney
@joeytgolf Who you calling kid dipshit? So it's okay for Woodson to quit on his team because he injured his Upper Body but he isn't a bitch? Cutler however, is because he plays for Chicago.
You are a homer, plain and simple.
(P.s. what about driver with his mysterious knee injury?)
@NightmareXander I said nothing about Cutler, I respect him for even staying as injury free as he has with that atrocious O-Line he had at the beginning of the season/all last season. Collarbone injury is pretty much impossible to play through, and I don't recall any Driver injury.
@joeytgolf If you didn't say anything about Cutler and respect him, then why would you even reply to my comment? I don't criticize people's injuries, but that's my response when Packers fans knock Cutler about "Quitting on his team" when Driver and Woodson both got injured and didn't play the rest of the Superbowl.
@NightmareXander Because I was commenting on the part about Woodson at least. I don't remember Driver's injury, but I do remember Woodsons. Yes, in hindsight, everyone that said anything about Cutler's toughness needs to eat crow, but saying anything about woodson when no one even questioned him? That's a stupid analogy if that's what you were trying to do.
@joeytgolf Okay man, not trying to be a douche, but seriously, READ WHAT I WROTE. The last thing I'm doing is creating an analogy. I am creating a contrast. EVERYONE hates and questions Cutler's toughness, but not Driver's or Woodson's.
@ByeHawks I'm sorry no it's not. Not even CLOSE to way worse. Have you ever had a TORN MCL and tried to throw a football rotating on your left knee? I have. 5 1/2 years later it still bothers me sometimes.
My brother broke his collarbone in High School playing football with his friends and it IS horrible and impossible to play football with.
I want you to say something about Tom Brady(The greatest QB ever) sitting out the AFC Champ back in 2002 or L.T. in 2008(Top 10 RB ever).
@NightmareXander He didn't TEAR his mcl. he SPRAINED it you dipshit. Bud, I broke my collarbone 3 year ago. COMPOUND. I had to have MULTIPLE SURGERIES and after 2 YEARS of physical therapy, I still can't raise my arm above my head. mcl SPRAIN is worse MY ASS.
1. Again DIPSHIT, read what I fucking wrote. Where did I say that an MCL injury of any kind was worse than a broken collarbone? (Hint: I didn't)
2. My brother snapped his collarbone like a twig, got NO therapy, and has full range of motion to this day. Charles Woodson is also playing not 1 year later in the NFL. Though he is back to his usual, par, overrated self.
3. MCL TEAR. ESPN and NFL Network re-worded what the Bears and Doctors said repeatedly: TEAR.
@MrAndrewb61 You are fucking retarded if you seriously think they're the same thing. My dad is an Orthopedic surgeon and sees ligament tears all the time. I asked him if they're the same. He said they are absolutely not. And FUCK YOU. My body's littered with scars from soccer, and my collarbone was broken by a miscalculated kick in a tourney when I was in 8th grade. I can't play sports anymore because of it. So you can suck it you little pussy.
@NightmareXander If a big bad MCL sprain is SO awful, how was it that Forte is only expected to miss 2-3 weeks with his? A broken collarbone requires AT LEAST 6 weeks, and is often season ending.
I think the Bears should body slam Aaron Rodgers this year and ruin the Packers chance of repeating as Super Bowl Champions like the Packers did to the Bears by body slamming McMahon. I think the Bears win another Super Bowl if McMahon doesn't get injured on this play. Payback is fair, even 25 years later!!!
@adaonetube im a packers fan and i almost agree with u ( ALMOST ). today is the first time ive ever seen this ( im a young football fan only 19 ) and it actual gets me angry. imagine that me getting angry against my own team. i cant imagine how mad i would be had this been the other way around and about 10 years later ( like to brett favre in 97 or 98 )
Didn't realize Martin died in 95 of kidney failure. I remember watching this game as a kid and feeling absolutely disgusted at this play. I agree with some comments here...this hit hurt the BEars legacy
@MilkandEggsMarketing As much as I hate Green Bay, it's football. I would never wish death upon anyone over a football game. If we're talking about Osama Bin Laden, then yes, I'm glad he's dead. But I could never say that about anyone over a football game!
@Chromeo33 Late in the season; and apparently the length of time required for the recovery of the shoulder injury would have prevented McMahon from making it back at any point for the rest of the 1986 season.
I'm a huge Packers fan and I hate the Bears and I love the physicality of football, but damn. This is just sick. Players should never actively try to injure players on purpose so blatantly like that. That's not how you play the game.
I'm a Packers fan. We can blame Charles Martin all we want, but Forrest Gregg was the animal that coached this Packers team and openly encouraged his players to take cheap shots.
If I was a Bears offensive lineman, I would've wanted Martin to stay on the field for one more play so I could chop block him and blow out his knee. I'm an Eagles fan and I wasn't even alive back then, and seeing something this dirty makes me sick to my stomach.
I am a big time Packer fan but that was the last time I ever rooted for martin and if I remember right he was out of green bay after that year also. That was a very cheap move goes way beyond the normal hatred between these teams.
It's such a shame that Charles Martin died so young. What a great man.

And 85 was a career year for him and he threw for like 2200 yards, 15 tds, and 12 ints. Can't tell me they couldn't find someone to replicate those numbers and just hand the ball off to Walter Payton
docj09 2 months ago
@docj09 McMahon did more than just hand the ball off to Payton; that's what Fuller did which worked until it didn't in the first playoff game. He was a decent passer, which the was somenthing the Bears had not had for years. It's a mistake to just look at stats. McMahon was a catalyst for the team. The whole team played better when he led it.
LeotheOrangeCat 2 months ago
@LeotheOrangeCat Thats true. But it's unlikely the Bears would have won multiple championships anyways. They MAY have won in 86, maybe, but their window would have closed after that. Walter Payton was already starting to show his age on the 85 team, he was retired by 87. They would have won 2 at the most (including the one they won in 85)
docj09 2 months ago
haha my uncle was talkin about this today so i had to look it up he said mcmahon deserved it and was a cocky little shit
justen446 3 months ago
"What're they congratulating him for?" Well, ya see...that's just how they roll up in Green Bay. Can't stand any of them.

@middiablo 10-0 with a win over the bears to get into and win the superbowl. Epic season. #cutlersabitch
jumpman608 3 months ago
@jumpman608 Cutler is a man, Rodgers is a true fag, no matter how good he is.
NightmareXander 3 months ago
@NightmareXander do you realize what you just said? How good he is. You made the notion that he is good. How is Cutler a man? He stayed out of the nfc championship game when they played each other last year because he was "hurt". The real man was Caleb Haney
jumpman608 3 months ago
@jumpman608 "Hurt"? Have you EVER injured your knee and tried throwing a football? It's much more painful than ANYTHING else required of ANY position.
Next you will tell me that Tom Brady isn't a man because he didn't play with a similar injury.
How about Donald Driver and Charles Woodson quitting on their team during the Superbowl?
Oh and it doesn't matter that Rodgers is good, he is so queer I would not be able to root for him, even if he was on my team.
NightmareXander 2 months ago
@NightmareXander So Woodson should have played with a broken collarbone? One of the most debilitating injuries there are? Shut up kid.
joeytgolf 2 months ago
@joeytgolf Who you calling kid dipshit? So it's okay for Woodson to quit on his team because he injured his Upper Body but he isn't a bitch? Cutler however, is because he plays for Chicago.
You are a homer, plain and simple.
(P.s. what about driver with his mysterious knee injury?)
NightmareXander 2 months ago
@NightmareXander I said nothing about Cutler, I respect him for even staying as injury free as he has with that atrocious O-Line he had at the beginning of the season/all last season. Collarbone injury is pretty much impossible to play through, and I don't recall any Driver injury.
joeytgolf 2 months ago
@joeytgolf If you didn't say anything about Cutler and respect him, then why would you even reply to my comment? I don't criticize people's injuries, but that's my response when Packers fans knock Cutler about "Quitting on his team" when Driver and Woodson both got injured and didn't play the rest of the Superbowl.
NightmareXander 2 months ago
@NightmareXander Because I was commenting on the part about Woodson at least. I don't remember Driver's injury, but I do remember Woodsons. Yes, in hindsight, everyone that said anything about Cutler's toughness needs to eat crow, but saying anything about woodson when no one even questioned him? That's a stupid analogy if that's what you were trying to do.
joeytgolf 2 months ago
@joeytgolf Okay man, not trying to be a douche, but seriously, READ WHAT I WROTE. The last thing I'm doing is creating an analogy. I am creating a contrast. EVERYONE hates and questions Cutler's toughness, but not Driver's or Woodson's.
Which is of course bullshit.

@NightmareXander Woodson had a BROKEN COLLARBONE for Christ sake. How the fuck is he supposed to play through that?!
ByeHawks 2 months ago
@ByeHawks That's exactly what I've been saying, get some reading comprehension.
joeytgolf 2 months ago
@joeytgolf Sorry about that, replied to the wrong person.
ByeHawks 2 months ago
@ByeHawks EXACTLY MY POINT DIPSHIT! GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASSES!
He's NOT supposed to play through it! People are supposed to respect each others injuries and not question them!
NightmareXander 2 months ago
@NightmareXander I'm sorry, but a broken collarbone is WAY worse than a SPRAINED mcl.
ByeHawks 2 months ago
@ByeHawks I'm sorry no it's not. Not even CLOSE to way worse. Have you ever had a TORN MCL and tried to throw a football rotating on your left knee? I have. 5 1/2 years later it still bothers me sometimes.
My brother broke his collarbone in High School playing football with his friends and it IS horrible and impossible to play football with.
I want you to say something about Tom Brady(The greatest QB ever) sitting out the AFC Champ back in 2002 or L.T. in 2008(Top 10 RB ever).
NightmareXander 2 months ago
@NightmareXander He didn't TEAR his mcl. he SPRAINED it you dipshit. Bud, I broke my collarbone 3 year ago. COMPOUND. I had to have MULTIPLE SURGERIES and after 2 YEARS of physical therapy, I still can't raise my arm above my head. mcl SPRAIN is worse MY ASS.
ByeHawks 2 months ago
@ByeHawks
NightmareXander 2 months ago
@NightmareXander Overrated? He LEADS the league in interceptions this year.
ByeHawks 2 months ago
@NightmareXander No no no. Cutler himself has said it was a SPRAIN.
ByeHawks 2 months ago
your an idiot. a sprain is a tear.. uve obviously never had a real sports injury in your life. u must be a green bay fan. go to hell!!!
MrAndrewb61 2 months ago
@MrAndrewb61 You are fucking retarded if you seriously think they're the same thing. My dad is an Orthopedic surgeon and sees ligament tears all the time. I asked him if they're the same. He said they are absolutely not. And FUCK YOU. My body's littered with scars from soccer, and my collarbone was broken by a miscalculated kick in a tourney when I was in 8th grade. I can't play sports anymore because of it. So you can suck it you little pussy.
ByeHawks 2 months ago
@NightmareXander If a big bad MCL sprain is SO awful, how was it that Forte is only expected to miss 2-3 weeks with his? A broken collarbone requires AT LEAST 6 weeks, and is often season ending.
ByeHawks 2 months ago
@NightmareXander you said woodson is overrated haha ok dude thats funny

I think the Bears should body slam Aaron Rodgers this year and ruin the Packers chance of repeating as Super Bowl Champions like the Packers did to the Bears by body slamming McMahon. I think the Bears win another Super Bowl if McMahon doesn't get injured on this play. Payback is fair, even 25 years later!!!
adaonetube 3 months ago
@adaonetube im a packers fan and i almost agree with u ( ALMOST ). today is the first time ive ever seen this ( im a young football fan only 19 ) and it actual gets me angry. imagine that me getting angry against my own team. i cant imagine how mad i would be had this been the other way around and about 10 years later ( like to brett favre in 97 or 98 )

If Lombardi was alive he would have body slammed Martin on the sideline and then personally apologized to McMahon.

@heater26 mcmahon was never the same. he was a back up for a while, but after this, his ability was probably halved.

@MilkandEggsMarketing As much as I hate Green Bay, it's football. I would never wish death upon anyone over a football game. If we're talking about Osama Bin Laden, then yes, I'm glad he's dead. But I could never say that about anyone over a football game!

How is that a season-ending injury?
Chromeo33 3 months ago
@Chromeo33 Late in the season; and apparently the length of time required for the recovery of the shoulder injury would have prevented McMahon from making it back at any point for the rest of the 1986 season.

I'm a huge Packers fan and I hate the Bears and I love the physicality of football, but damn. This is just sick. Players should never actively try to injure players on purpose so blatantly like that. That's not how you play the game.

I'm ashamed of any of my fellow Packer fans that celebrate this incident. Celebrate the 2010 NFC Championship instead! Fuck the Bears.

If I was a Bears offensive lineman, I would've wanted Martin to stay on the field for one more play so I could chop block him and blow out his knee. I'm an Eagles fan and I wasn't even alive back then, and seeing something this dirty makes me sick to my stomach.
punkrockr912 4 months ago
I am a big time Packer fan but that was the last time I ever rooted for martin and if I remember right he was out of green bay after that year also. That was a very cheap move goes way beyond the normal hatred between these teams.
