  • How many batteries does this thing chew through in a week?

  • A great stand alone power supply for this pedal (if you don't want to splash out on a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power) is the Jim Dunlop 18v ECB 04UK.

I have the Maxon branded version of this pedal in the small MXR sized box that I think was released only for the Japanese market. Such a great delay.

  • your so right graemey the ad 80 is loads better than the boss analog delay, the only bad thing is it does boost your signal a lot,or is that just mine. great demo anyway.

  • i was just listening my old stuff when i had that pedal new

omg, it sounds really close to what i did so many years ago

once jamming with a drummer buddy i did something with the pedal

and got the wickest growl i have ever heard from any guitar ever.

  • Nice bit of Link Wray.

  • How does this compare to the MXR Carbon Copy?

  • What do you do for a living Graemey to afford all this gear?!

  • I bought most of it in the 80's/90's when pedals were cheap. G

  • how much is one of these?

  • @Guitarman1192 250 euros used in Finland.

  • thats the exact tone i liken in a delay .as luck would ave it theres one on auction now.hello fellow s

  • Great demo as always, one request though. I frequently use lots of gain, could that possibly be added to your otherwise excellent videos? Especially with the delays and flanger/phaser pedals. Cheers!

  • The AD-80 is my fav. delay! And I had/have Roland Space/Chorus Echos, Ursa Major Space Station, Dynacord VRS-23, Boss'es and more...

  • @phfrixion How warm/organic is it in person? It sounds warmer than the AD9

  • @theShowStopper321

Sorry for the late reply. The AD9 is much "softer" than the AD80 and can't be driven to this feedback that can destroy speakers (and ears). ;-)

  • my favorite person on the internet. awesome sounds.

  • 3:54-4:15- what is that song? oldie... thanks.

  • Rumble by Link Wray

  • the intro almost made me piss my pants

  • Keep working on your English grammar old friend. For example; the first word in any sentence should always begin with a capital letter, as should the word "English".

It matters not however, I can understand most of what you have written.

  • lol

  • @blondegraemey How much did u get that for used? Are u using it in the FX loop?

  • boygirl8b, only a yank would say something as stupid as that, and I'm glad blondegraemey owned the shit out of you hahaha!!

  • Where can I buy a 18 volt adapter for AD 80 because it does eat up battery power but the delay is something else.

  • hi dude, nice video... whats da diffrence betwee an analog delay and a digital delay? Thanks a lot.

  • @1713162434 generally an analog will have decay in the delays and sound warmer, while digital usually has very crisp repeats.

  • thank you so much my friend

  • Hey nice demo man, I just recieved my AD-80. (#101102, must be one of the first).

Any idea on which 18v adapter suits this pedal? Been crying out 9v batteries every 3 hours...

    Thanks, greets Rowan

  • Should work with the Voodoo Lab Pedal Power. G

  • song in begginning??

  • It's my old band called Candleman Summer. The track is called Brilliant. G

  • LOVE IT can you post a video of the full song?

  • I will soon. G

  • hey m8 that's a nice sounding delay. How would you compare it to the modern maxon delays? being that your pedal is a vintage maxon. also you did a lot of slapback which sounds fawesome but can it do spacier more psychedelic stuff?

  • Hi. Sorry Ive never tried the Maxon stuff. This one is amazing for trippy, psychedelic echos. G

  • actually you have tried the maxon stuff :-) Maxon designed and manufactured all of ibanez's pedals back then. They designed the original tubescreamer and all other effects from that line... i believe only the reissues are no longer maxon. Even the pcb inside the pedal should say maxon on it.

  • have some cool old pedals, nice hearing the vintage stuff being demo out there, thanks for the vid

  • what are batrees?

  • 2 x 9v

  • Americans who make a big deal of someone's accent are vomit.

  • People who go around lustfully searching for a reason to hate on Americans simply have no relevant opinion. Given, of course, that you don't file arrogant hate-speak under relevant opinions.

Are Englishmen who make a big deal of someone's accent any more or less vomit than Americans?

    Didn't think so.

And I didn't sense that his comment was meant to be offensive; if it was, shame on him. The guy here has a cool accent. :]

I often wish I could hear my own accent from another point of view.

  • nvm hes taking the piss

  • Ha ha

  • Its Engish.

  • Thanks for the demo pity these cost an arm and a leg these days.... I have one anyone wanna buy it for 2000 AUD? ( :(

  • I have two of these pedals and on both the delay time pot works in the reverse direction to yours. Fully counterclockwise is the longer delay, fully clockwise is the shortest. Weird.

  • how long's the delay time on this little gem?

  • what's the name of the intro song, thanks =)

  • It's my old band from years ago who were called Candleman Summer. The track is called Brilliant. G

  • dude that was a nice intro track!

do you have by any chance a clip of the whole song?

  • I might upload the video one day...

  • awesome, thanks

  • how does this compare to the ad9?

  • I think this has a slightly stronger delayed sound.

  • cool, thanks man!

  • Do you play with Herdims?

  • Sorry, what's Herdims? G

  • They're the picks that The Edge uses

  • Ah I see. No, I use Herco picks but I strike the string with the grip side like The Edge does.

  • you did'nt show off any distortion sounds with it. little people know, but with that pedal if you screem into your pickups you can have your voice loop through the delay through the amp. only with a lot of gain though.

  • What was that you were playing at3:54 I"ve heard it before.

  • It's from the film Pulp Fiction. Rumble by Link Wray. G

  • phsyco rockabilly...Nice!!

  • How would you compare this to the newer Ibanez AD-9 Delay??

  • Hi, sorry I havn't tried a AD-9!

  • They sound pretty cool to me, I recently checked out Maxon's clone of this pedal, also called the AD-80, it's also pink, and has the same wicked "Analog Delay" label! No, demos of it up here yet though...

  • I can't hear the delay because of all the echoing the guitar is doing.

  • Is that a joke?

  • the bast demo analog delay

im going to bay one :)

  • Dude, or as you would say, dade, is something wrong with your U key?

  • dude your accent is awesome!

  • Haha! Yes, I agree!

  • at first guess i would say your accent is irish, but i wouldn't know.

  • Im from the north of England, not far from Scotland.

  • nice!

  • i was totally gonna say Scottish. funny part is in your case i'm LITERALLY not that far off.

  • I am so glad that I got one, but I am a little afraid of the day where it will die...1979...almost 30 years and its still running

  • Hi, I really like your pedal demos!

Where would you rank the ad-80 compared to pedals like the Boss dm-2 or 3 or the Ibanez ad-9, or even the EHX memory man? I hear that the ad-80 has some really good delay chip in it that's quite desirable.

  • Yes, the chip is really good and makes this sound better than the Boss etc.

A Memory Man has more character though!

    You gotta love them all!

  • That's what I was waiting for, great demo. I love those pedals. I had one a long time ago and like a dummy I let it go. I really respect your knowledge in pedals, like I said in another message, I'd love to chat with you about working with our band. How can I send you a private email? Listening to that delay makes me sad!! I wish I still jad mine. Good job bro.

  • hello there! geordie? good demo :)

  • Hi, thanks! Yes, Im a Geordie.

  • Agreed...much nicer than the Boss equivalent, though I remember mine chewing batteries like they were going out of style...(when not using the p/s)...I sold it for close to $500 AUS! (regrettably!)...cheers for the show!

  • Very cool Geordie accent.

  • Whey Aye Bonnie Lad!

  • where can i get this pedal? i prefer this ibanez than de Ad9

  • Hi!

These are long discontinued now. Best search on Ebay I guess! Good luck.

  • Very nice video, man! Question: what's the song playing at the intro of the video? Sounds like boards of Canada meets John Frusciante... Please keep up the great demos!

  • Cheers!

The song is called 'Brilliant' by a band from Newcastle called Candleman Summer.

  • Thanks, man! I'll have to look into them! I really love that sort of stuff... I've got another question (2 actually)... One: When you do the self oscillation stuff, aren't you afraid you'll damage the speakers? I always am! Two: Which model and which year AC's are those you're playing? I'm playing through a JMI AC-15 twin and I love it, but I'm alway afraid I'll blow it up when I do "crazy" stuff, haha. Cheers.

  • I guess it's possible to damage the speakers if your amp is really loud, it wouldn't stop me going for some oscillation if I was in the mood though haha! I have 2 AC30's a 63 and a 70 top boost.

I don't think you will have much luck searching for Candleman Summer music, that was my old band from the late 80's / early 90's. The only music we released was a 45 single and it never sold much and we never got famous! Damm!

It's nice that the intro caught your ear though!

  • Thanks again for the info, man! I really appreciate it. Very nice years for the AC's that you've got there. My buddy just got a chrome chasis '63 AC-30 TB, one of ten made, and it's just insane. It has the pre blue bell blue Celestions and is just killer. Lastly, I have to ask, but would it be possible to buy one of the old 45's off of you if you've got any extras? I'd really like to hear more... Sorry if I seem annoying.

  • Hi, sorry the old singles are long gone Im afraid. I have some old videos of the band that I may post on Youtube when I finally work out how to convert them to digital files. Hopefully that will be sometime soon! G

  • What device are they currently on? A tape? An old video camera?

  • VHS cassette tapes. Im gonna get a converter soon and then Im in business. G

  • Ah. If money isn't a problem I suggest the Canopus ADVD110. I've converted loads with that, and it works real well. But, there's a ton of other converters out there.

  • Very cool demo, thanks a lot!

  • How long is the delay time max?

I didnt hear you say but i might have missed it if you did.

  • About 350ms I think. Cheers!

  • Thanks
