education is a human right, it should not be treated like a marketplace ... plus, private schools, particularly religious ones, shelter kids and keep them ignorant about the world that they live in. it's the private catholic vs. protestant school systems in places like Israel and Ireland that have perpetuated ancient religious hatreds into modernity generation after generation. People pay taxes, and that includes having PUBLIC SCHOOLS, and they should enjoy this benefit
"education is a human right, it should not be treated like a marketplace"
I suppose next you'll say STEALING is human right, well, you basically are saying that anyway because govt ROBBING one person to pay for another IS stealing.
"People pay taxes, and that includes having PUBLIC SCHOOLS, and they should enjoy this benefit"
Well, then they should only be for those who DO pay taxes but then they'd rather send their children to private schools for much better education
If all schools were privatized it would actually be a good thing. First of all, prices would go way down, since every child would attend one. If the kid can't cut it or never goes to class, the parents would most likely take them out, because of the money, most likely to getting them into the workforce earlier or learning a trade; stop wasting time and energy. Secondly, schools would have to compete with each other, individually. Good schools get more students and money, the bad ones go broke.
@lomocan Thanks. I've found I just have a natural gift when it comes to words. And, I didn't have a stellar grammer career while I was in school.
That's another issue, too. If a student were to drop out of school for whatever reason, equivalency tests, I believe, should be made available for *all jobs* for those who didn't get the proper schooling but have particular apititude in that certain area. There's still *a lot* of talented people, who for whatever reason, didn't get proper schooling.
Well, if govt got out of mass-indoctrination.....ahem....public-schooling then there'd be a lot less people big degrees with NO KNOWLEDGE, right now, there are so many of them around that businesses hire on those basis but if there was public-schooling then there'd be less such people & businesses who'd hire people based on their aptitudes & KNOWLEDGE rather than largely worthless pieces of paper called "degrees" & "diplomas". Further, some people're good at "study",not APPLICATION
Not to mention, getting rid of public-schooling would mean lesser taxes so that money would go into private sector & create more jobs and/or higher-paid jobs & more goods/services & increase the standards of living for everyone.
Schools would be a lot more focused & result-oriented as not doing so would put'em out of business due to competition; right now, govt schools set low "benchmarks" with low quality & high costs which even hampers quality & prices of private schools.
@lomocan My thoughts exactly. I forgot to mention the taxes, People first think, and wrongly so "But, private schools are *so much* of money." But, as you put it, when you consider all the costs in public schools for busing, heating, air conditioning, electricity, food, salaries (from superintedants to kitchen workers), before and after school programs, art and athlectic programs etc.. If public school is "free", where is this all coming from? All this in addition to the points I adressed above.
@TenderTrap86 From a European perspective and seeing this European approach being more successful in Asian countries than in the Philippines, I of course, harshly disaggree. I believe that certain sectors of public life, e.g. health care or education should be dealt with in a socialistic manner. In other sectors however, like e.g. technology or clothing, privatisation is key.
@GaolisVideoLog But, it would also be prudent to look at Europe's current financial fiasco. The socialized schooling is, undoubtably, one it's contributors, among many others. Europeans are much more intelligent than Americans, but still not intelligent enough, in my opinion, to discover that it's the socialism at the root of their problems, today. And, that goes for the things people think they need, like education and healthcare.
If you want to make something more expensive, make it "free".
Also, I believe that college shouldn't be a mandatory requirement for many jobs. There should also be equivalency tests, as well. If one of those kids who left school early, one day discovered an interest or aptitude in a certain area, they should be able to get a job in that sector, even without a diploma. There are many people out there who work menial jobs who are actually highly intelligent, but they just made poor life decisions early on (as kids tend to do).
I go to a private school and i love it and hate it. I love it because you get more help from teachers because there are usually less people. I really hate it because it is so SMALL!!! there are 55 people at my school from pre-kindergarden to 8th grade you can't hang out w/ as many people and you can't keep away from people.(^_^)
As a graduate of a PUBLIC elementary school, and a graduate of a PRIVATE high school, there isn't much of a difference. Private schools have uniforms and Christian education. Public schools get a bit more money than private schools and a more structured education. Overall, it's the students and teachers who makes the school. A majority of my HS grad class were mostly obnoxious fucks and some hated learning. There were some teachers who more care only about the curriculum and their salaries, too.
Well between the two I would say that public school and private school are equal. I mean I went to a public school and a private school. Yet, I didnt like either. I liked private school because it offered religious info, and I like public school because I thought the education was a tad more organized in structure. Overall, it is the person who goes to school that makes the education. In both schools the people around me didnt want to learn and I didnt like both of them. I think Single gender :D

As a role model, would you propose children skip long term education altogether and instead, pursue a fulfilling path of delivering absolute truth on Youtube on a daily basis (without any benefit I may add)?
@tercielo having a good job doesn't mean having a good education, bill gates was a drop out and yet he has the best job for being the richest entrepreneur.
you keep mentioning a mere fraction of the successful people of today and you keep implying that education is not necessary, maybe for some but not for all.
you mention people that stand out in history that didn't have education. but they are a small fraction of the worlds most successful people.
@tercielo you have a high rate of succesful educated people but they too are among the highest rate of failures. but the point i was making is most men who have achieved great success in history were not even educated. and many of their achievements were unparralleled by any educated person.
@tercielo i am not saying not to send your kids to school all i am asserting is education is not a guarantee to success. there are many educated people who are failures and some people are educated but still stupid. of course education is always a plus but again not a guarantee to any success.
ahhh but you said and I quote " bill gates, a drop out, became the richest man in the world. now tell me why send your kids to school for?"

knowone should have the right to purchase privelege and oppurtunity in the field of education. This simply perpetuates social divisions in society.

u might say it is a right for people to educate their kids how they want. But i feel the immorality of purchasing a better education overrides this
Private schools have moral values implemented by the school. They have a tradition and most of all they have the DISCIPLINE! Wearing the uniforms and Code of Conduct and discipline. Compare to public school more liberty and lack of discipline. However due to economic reasons Public school are majoritized.
Yes, it is accepted Private schools educate better than state schools. BUT ISNT THAT THE WHOLE ISSUE. y should money buy such oppurtunity. by grace of birth the minority purchases arguably the biggest advantage u can have, all at the expense of the majority

wot im saying is that it is generally accepted that private schools are better than public. It is the inequality which that engenders which is wrong. most cant afford private schools and so r stuck with public. wot im asking u is why should people be allowed to buy a better standard of education than someone else. education of a similar standard should be provided to all. private schools are elitist, favouring the rich. they are immoral. Proppelling already advantaged kids into the best jobs
public schools have a better variety of people, such as ethnicity and religion. i think it helps people be less ignorant about different cultures and different kinds of people. i think public schools helps students know that there ARE different kinds of people and that not everybody is the same.
private schools are .. well, private lol. you don't see a jewish kid going to a catholic private school, and you don't see a girl going to an all boy's private school either!
I disagree. The choice between private school and public school is a manner of how a family chooses to allocate their funds. If they wish to spend more money on education or whether they choose to buy a big house with a nice car. ...
Private schools schools are not as under-represented as one may preceive. There are people from all walks of life, and cultural backgrounds. As for people who genuinely can not afford to go to a private school, even after allocating money towards education, due to their Socioeconomic background; one should not see this as ignorance towards poverty as many private schools--especially here in Ontario, Canada--teach the importance giving back to the community.
the fact is that the rich dominate private education. the fact is that private education is better than state education and this furthers the advantages of those who can afford it
MONEY SHOULDNT BUY PRIVELEGE.
Any charity private schools give is hypocrisy since they are part of the problem.
They cause a rift in society. The haves and the have nots. the educated and the non educated. Name me 3 unemployed privately educated people and i will eat my hat.
I can name several unemployed graduates of my (private) school. The problem isn't that they weren't educated, the problem is that they pissed away all of these things that were given to them.
"California, one of the lowest funded..." We know that some third world countries has better education with far less funding.
What I'm trying to say is that it's not always about the funding, its also about the students motivation to learn and the presence of the parents after school.
it's not just that though it is also the fact that some teacher(here in australia anyways) are only interested in the main stream, my gf's art teacher used to look at her work and say no that's not art cause it's not abstract, she showed it to people she never met before and they go wow that's greatly done, so there are teachers out there that actually hold their students back because of their single mindedness.
What about the teacher's accountability. Public schools are only good in military bases and suburban neighborhoods since there is a lot with property value.
This debate is really boring. I would obviosly say "yes" private schools are better then public. They, instill values into children that public schools don't. I used to go to public and when I switched to private i was soo much happier.
i'd say it depends on the child because i did the same i went from public to private and i wasn't any happier, as far as i was concerned they tried to put in me the wrong values, e.g. value this book and it's teaching over your freind.
Wow this was one of the weakest debate forums I have ever seen. No facts or figures, just personal opinion & rap. U.S. stats show that private school students go to & finish college w/better grade averages vs. public schools. Public schools have higher drop out rates. Private schools are more financially astute & responsible. All these stats can be seen at the U.S. DED site. We should model our system after the Belgium schools. Look up the video "Stupid in America" or "20/20 Stupid in America."
its funny because i go 2 a religious private scool & the majority of the teachers are atheists because the scool only hires the best teachers & doesnt discimminate because pp only go 2 the scool becuase it is a good scool - not because it is religious

All my cousins went to Private schools except me. Made me feel dumber and low class most of my child life.

That's true. Any website I can visit to look at your girlfriends art?

What about the teacher's accountability. Public schools are only good in military bases and suburban neighborhoods since there is a lot with property value.

This debate is really boring. I would obviosly say "yes" private schools are better then public. They, instill values into children that public schools don't. I used to go to public and when I switched to private i was soo much happier.

i'd say it depends on the child because i did the same i went from public to private and i wasn't any happier, as far as i was concerned they tried to put in me the wrong values, e.g. value this book and it's teaching over your freind.

well yes i would agree... i was just simply stating my opinion.. did u think the debate was honestly appealing tho?

Wow this was one of the weakest debate forums I have ever seen. No facts or figures, just personal opinion & rap. U.S. stats show that private school students go to & finish college w/better grade averages vs. public schools. Public schools have higher drop out rates. Private schools are more financially astute & responsible. All these stats can be seen at the U.S. DED site. We should model our system after the Belgium schools. Look up the video "Stupid in America" or "20/20 Stupid in America."
