Haven't heard it since 1980 when my friend Razi used to play to this song in his 1979 Chevrolet Malibu Classic which he had brought from Jim Hendricks Chevrolet(fairfax circle) which came with an 8 Track. And yes, he also had a 45rpm vinyl of the song.
I totally agree. Working in Hartford radio at the time I used to love playing this far more that Pina Colada song. Wife and I were also splitting up about this time.
This song got good play in L.A. The album is sensational. And I agree with Kell, this was not only better but was my fave at the time. Truly a great song. What a lot of DJs did was to turn up the volume as the song was fading to get every note out of the strings - which were beautiful and melodic. Give it a try with your volume nobs or dials and you'll hear what I mean. DJs did the same thing with the Beatles' Hey Jude as well as I Am The Walrus.
I've been searching for this song's real artist for 2 years. Two years ago, I recieved a blue CD that one of my family relatives gave me and one of the track numbers included this song, between "You Got to Love Me" by --I forgot-- and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears For Fears. Now I knew after 2 years who sung this and it was Rupert Holmes. I keep coming here on YouTube now and then and I keep going by a lyric from this song "What is going do without him?". It was "Him" all along.
I'm sorry dad , I'm sorry mum for being so mean , I'm sorry that on christmas you spend money on me and my brother , I'm sorry that you have to pay for us , I'm sorry that i had to hurt you just to be born into this world
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
@jsizer35 I was a teenager in the 70's and they totally sucked. You had NIxon, the Vietnam war, the oil embargo, terrible inflation, the cold war, the Iran hostage crisis. The music was good but that's about it. The only good thing to come out of the 70's was the personal computer.
I've known this song for thirty years and it keeps sounding better and better. Must be one of the all-time best. I remember our housemaid playing this and Lotta Love by Nicolette Larson on the radio in the late '70s and early '80s.
This song brings back many memories. I was in the 7th grade too when this song came out! On Vacation down in Texas with my parents!! Very good song! Even tho I didn't have a girlfriend to lose to HIM!! lol
I love this awesome follow-up to "Escape", and it would make a great West Coast Swing song to dance to (for those who dance WCS); whether you're a WCS dancer or not, this is a "lost classic" and a SMASH HIT for Rupert Holmes! Enjoy!
I only knew the "Escape" song. The first time i heard this song was on an informercial for some soft rock collection. The infomercial was hosted by the 2 guys from Air Supply. The clip shown of Holmes singing this song he was on American Banstand and Cheri Oteri was one of his back up singers.
I remember my dad having the "Partners in Crime" vinyl back in 1979/80. Loved "Him" as a kid, and still do 30 years later (with the CD in my own collection)!
I haven't heard this song in over 10 years. It has always been in my head since I very the first time I heard it when it was first released in the early 80's. It made cry then and it still makes me cry now...LOL
I have this friend of mine that made me listen to this song. He told me it was a hit. I can't understand why a song that sucks so bad was a hit. Is there anybody that agrees with me? When the singer (Rupert Holmes) starts to "Yodel" is that good-bad-scary-disturbing?!?! My mind is blown right now. Please no angry comments from people who love this song. I don't want to piss anybody off.
