Yeah but there's a difference between Kimbo and Brock. Kimbo only won against fighters who sucked meanwhile, Brock has been facing TOP fighters eversince he came into the UFC. You can argue this but the reality is, Matt Sierra's win over GSP WAS a fluke, Brock's fight against Couture wasn't. All Brock needs to do is improve more on striking, learn submissions and submission defense and you already HAVE a top tier.

Once randy retires (which will be soon) ufc division will be the worst it has ever been. no one beside nog is a top ten fighter. And making brock lesnar a title fight after 1 win and werdum getting screwed the way he did shows how fucked up the ufc has gotten

As for treatment of fighters, Hansen had the benefit in Pride being on Fuji TV in Japan before they lost the deal due to Yakuza corruption. Couple that with bigger sponsorship then UFC was able to get, $40k + 40k was easier to pay out when the TV company footed the bill. In UFC his promotion would have to be built from scratch and although he'd make half, it'd still be more then what he would be able to draw in attendance and PPV buys on debuting. Good Rankings, everyone has differing ones, with differing opinions, you made solid points on yours. Yeah, I understand the logistics of the business side, I think personally his original contract should've been reduced by 10k, and the UFC didn't have to approach the situation in the way they did. I'd personally rank Werdum higher then Sylvia. Werdum looked to be a shoe in for a title shot once this 'tournament' business had been settle before his upset loss to Dos Santos. Syvlia got dominated by Couture, was lackluster against Brandon Vera, looked good to start with before losing to Noguiera, and got obliterated by Fedor. Here's how I'd list global rankings: 10 Lesnar 9 Rothwell 8 Gonzaga 7 Sylvia 6 Werdum 5 Overeem 4 Arlovski 3 Barnett 2 Nogueira 1 Fedor

To put it bluntly...Kimbo sucks.

Perhaps a better question: "what are their similarities?" I just don't see it. Lesnar proved himself when he sent HH to the hospital and then further vindicated his title shot by winning it on saturday night. So far, the only thing Kimbo has proven is that he can't take a jab from a 205 pound TUF reject with pink hair standing on 1 foot.

I was talking about how Dana has been hypocritical when saying the Elite XC has only brought him in the make money, and be a draw for the casual fan, hasn't he done the same with Brock? Like I stated above, my apologies if It sounded that I think Lesnar doesn't have a solid wrestling background, or that he won't become a good Mixed Martial Artist. He has beaten two top 20 guys, and he is improving. Unlike Kimbo he has a good background in wrestling...

but both guys still when It comes to MMA are similiar, with the amount of experience they have with specific areas of their game, excluding Lesnar's wrestling, pure MMA. Dana has been very hypocritical when touting Lesnar the way he has, but when Elite XC did the same with Kimbo, when both guys have little experience in this sport, and Dana sat on his soapbox about them. EXC wasn't doing the same with Kimbo. That's why Dana was on his soapbox. They were feeding him cans on national tv that had no business fighting in 2008. I would be upset too. Dana worked very hard to negotiate a deal with CBS. Then Elite XC comes along and undermines the whole process by accepting any deal they could get. Now because of them, MMA is viewed as a sideshow and the UFC will have a harder time inking a fair deal with a major network in the future

I get what you're saying Chase. There's an element of hypocrisy ($) but it's apples ans oranges I think. Dana's point centered around the fact that Elite XC treated Kimbo without regard for the sport's credibility. Judging by Kimbo's opponents it's hard to argue that position.

Wait, you have Brock Lesnar over Werdum? You have a lot of fighters over Werdum. Yes he lost to Dos Santos but has credible wins. Also, where is Mir, who beat the champ.

Yes Werdum has, I moved Brock to 8 because of the win over Randy, Werdum still stays top 10, but the loss to Dos Santos knocks him back a bit. Lesnar at this point though does not deserve to be higher, until he beats more top ten opponents. Mir has the loss to Vera and Cruz of course, a win over Nog, puts him in the top 10, he is top 15 right now IMO, and a win over Brock, well propels him further. Rankings are difficult at times, b/c not everyone will agree. Hopefully I cleared this up...

i disagree with your comparison of kimbo and lesnar. brock has better wrestling credentials than many of the guys who make the transition to mma so to lump him in with the "freakshow" crowd i think is misleading. they both hav high levels of name recognition not mma-related and they both headlined shows before they probably should have but lesnar started fighting real contnders right out of the gate so it could be argued that those fights deserved their import purely on the basis of his opponent

good Mixed Martial Artist. Dana has always said that he didn't like the fact Elite XC brought Kimbo in as a money maker, and that he hadn't fought any real competition. don't forget that brock lesnar faced some stiff competition on his way to the title though it was a short climb, kimbo on the other hand purely faced bums for his fights and got handled... there is really no comparison between brock and kimbo...

just because Dana is willing to make money wile promoting his product i still think he is a genuine fan of MMA, thats just his style...

dana does not want mma to become boxing. he wants to make money AND preserve the purity of mma. MMA is truely in its golden age right now, boxing has already had its golden age 25 years ago. the best fighters don't fight each other anymore, promoters control industry, corruption is part of boxing culture, etc. MMA for what its worth is alot more pure with superfights happening often. Why should Dana help basically create competition by co-promoting??

The corruption of boxing has happened because promoters and agents were let to get out of control. Dana doesn't want to see other organizations for Business Reasons...

which theres nothing wrong with. However I personally do not think his intentions are for the betterment of MMA, its for the betterment of making money, and making a profit. If he was in it for MMA, he would be giving title shots to guys like Machida, guys like Fitch who waited forever. Its all about the money, which I understand and its something we all as MMA fans accept at some point, and must accept.

No problem man, always enjoy your vids. But with paying dues, that doesn't mean anything as far as money. It's get them respect and love from the fight community, but money is a whole different game. Andrei and Tim can't get big raises because at the point of their careers in the UFC they weren't title contenders haven lost convincingly to the champs at the time.

Whaddup mayne. You got great passion and I love it but you gotta realize this is a business and money is always going to come first. As far as Lesnar/Kimbo there's a big difference. Lesnar is a legitimate prospect that has proven himself to be capable of taking on and beating top comp. Kimbo fell apart once he fought someone with a little skill.

And I understand that, and thats something I have realized after watching this sport long enough, however does it make it right...No. Is it a business...Yes. Is there anything I or anyone can do about it...Right now No. If a organization comes along that really threatens the UFC, then we will see changes. These guys I talked about though have paid their dues, and deserve what they are asking for. Every sport though is going to have arguments over money. Thanks for the comment.
