  • why the fuck didn't warm the wire with electricity and cooling with water or glicerine??, is more compact, more light, practical and portable. If you will do a robot then you will need to put a oven for heating water, that is no only unpractical but that the energy for heating water is terrible, a robot like that would be a batery killer.

  • I'd imagine it would have been better to have the SMA directly controlling the finger rather than using the steel "tendon" inbetween. The biggest benefits of using SMA aren't having it just push and pull, but actually having out of plane movement. It was still cool, but it seems to act just like a servo/push-rod type setup.

Anyways, did you guys have any feedback, or was it all done by controlling the flow of hot/cold water?

  • hi

may i know where did u buy the wire and what are the name/ specs?

    thanks

  • @nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn984 google flexinol or dynalloy, they sell this kind of wires

  • What is the name of the music in this video?

  • IT CAN MOVE?!?!!? lol

  • Meanwhile, we still have aids, cancer and mexicans.

  • hmmm this looks like a toy for a woman ;D

  • they spend too much money on useless shit like this...

  • LOL I can't help but laugh at how epic they make it sound with the music. LMAO!

  • This is a SMA robot finger?

Why not have an electronic input of some kind rather than the liquid being pumped in and out. It's pneumatics with SMA.

I think what they've done is great, and it will only get better.

I am looking forward to the day they use SMA in clothing and fragile objects.

  • Acctually SMA is triggered by heat, in this case I think they are using hot and cold water to control the contractions, and yes, you could use electricity, because electricity can also generate heat.

  • @MrSYN I think it's response time. You can quickly heat sma up using the joule effect (resistance), but air cooling is pretty slow.

  • Not very interesting, no explanations, what kind of SMA do you use ? springs, wires,.. How many ?

    SMA :simple effect/double effect ?

    .....

  • yea you know when they start in with the music, all you'll be left with is questions

  • beautiful!!!

  • I'm a fellow engineer looking at robotics. I know how hard these projects can be. Awesome result.

  • Very interesting, when I read the description I was wondering how you could get quick actuation, non-negligible force on the finger and quick cool down all at the same time but the water idea is good. Keep up the good work

  • @Clamburgers possibly an easier solution would be to use electricity to heat the wire and water to cool it, that way a constant supply of hot water won't be needed

  • nice music from chrono cross
