  • Thx for great sound - more please ; )

  • Reel can't sound better : except if it's a master tape , anything else from a master could'nt be better , except ...again if it's digitaly remastered . Vynyl tape are magnetized aligment of metal particule read with a magnetic head : all these mean : flutter , friction wear ,noise distorsion , etc

  • @gs400s does this mean the original signal recorded is digital? Like a guitar thru a amp is analog not a sampled digital recording. So this means that cds and mp3s come from a pure signal right?

  • @gs400s "Reel can't sound better : except if it's a master tape"

That goes without saying as a copy will generally be inferior to the original master.

"anything else from a master could'nt be better , except ...again if it's digitaly remastered"

Aside from stating what domain the mastering was carried out in, "digitally remastered" doesn't say anything about the quality of the work that went into the mastering. Digitally mastering a recording won't help you if you aren't any good at it.

I think you just mean tape.

And, with magnetic tape, regardless if its digital or analog, the manipulation of the magnetic alignment of the oxide or metal particles in the binder is basically how it works. And, it works quite well. Well enough that, until the proliferation of DAWs, studios used tape to make albums.

  • Noise is unavoidable in recording, digital and analog, whose severity is dependent on several factors. For digital, there's a noise floor whose level is dictated by quantization rate and the amount of dithering in the signal.

Flutter would be due to a problem with equipment and possibly the media. With properly functioning elements, flutter isn't an issue.

Wear is inevitable with tape. But tape wasn't so prone to the point where it was impractical, so you overstate that negative.

  • @gs400s

Ultimately, digital and analog are different approaches to the same problem: how to encode a signal into a form that can be easily recorded onto media or broadcast.

Each have their perks and quirks, but neither are bad when used properly by someone who knows what he's doing.

  • Watching this made my day, very nice and clean modern looking deck, and one of my favorite songs by the Simple Minds!

I bet it gives you goosebumps when played with a good pair of headphones in real life!

I'd love to have a Teac like yours next to my Gx747.

    aaah maybe one day...

  • This type of recorders (specialy those 1/2 track high speed 15 inches/sec) were used for download from 8 or 16 tracks to vinyl. They sound great, look strong and watch them is hipnotic.

  • How true!

  • Do reel to reel actually sound better than CD or even vinyl? I do know since they have analog properties they can sound better than a CD if used and stored properly.

  • Master recordings are usually on these so..

Anything sound better than CD. =)

  • Hi there. Nice Teac r2r you have! ¿Is that Simple Minds? I can't realize which song is it. Best rgds. (I'll post my Teac 32-2b sounding)
