Obviously in 5 or 10 minutes it is hard to cover much in the way of instruction. I'm thinking of offering some very inexpensive mini-lessons that will be available for download from my web site. If/when this becomes available, all my subscribers will be notified. Thanks for your compliments.
Thanks so much, this is such a great tutorial about portraits. Most on youtube just jump form one stage to another. I started painitng about three years ago and have basically taught myself. I specially like doing portraits, there is just something so special about capturing a face in an instance. I will be checking out your site and dvd.
Thanks dougalina123. Glad you mentioned about the light goin on. I have the same problem. I find that it's best to just quit, and come back to painting later with a fresh eye, when the stars are aligned again. This is art, which requires input from your soul. Your energy must flow with the feeling. Then the rush is spectacular.
This is by far the most educational video on painting I have seen. Not that I have learned something new.. I learned something old. I forgot all about the complimentary colors to make skin tones. You are an amazing teacher and is only surpassed by your amazing painting skills.. or maybe not. The two skill sets (along with your videography skills) sure make your videos the most anticipated videos on You Tube.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your work!! Sometimes, when I'm painting, a "light" goes on...and everything just starts to flow. My color mixes are working, my glazes look great. And then...there are those days...well, you know...
What's also interesting is, although a master Artist can produce such a wonderful work of art such as this in a few days, the apprentiship, natural talent, skilful determination, and years of practice, make these awe inspiring productions worthy of many thousands or even millions of pounds/dollars.
Photorealism is seen by many as the highest accolade of a Master Artist.
I'm pleased to tell 'ya I'm now on that road to becoming one. Although I'm a Bob Ross instructor, I'm doin portraits etc. ;)
