This is funny but I just applied and now I'm hearing all this about SLC students not doing anything and it's just that ... I really like doing things!! ha so if anyone could respond to that I'd appreciate it.
I just got admitted :) I'm trying to schedule a visit since I live in South Detroit and didn't really think I'd get in, but in case I can't, is there anything I should know that I would learn from a visit? How is the theater program/major?
I want to see it...hear it...went to SLC and want to see your take on it...when I went it was what the stereotypes were all based on (like 13 years ago) want to see what it was like when you posted this...
I value nothing in my life more than my years - rather sober years, I might add - spent at SLC. I must say that while this video taps a very humorous vain of SLC self-consciousness, it may present a skewed picture to the curious viewer.
thats my mom in the video! I kind of remember her making it... ANYHOW, anyone who is thinking about going to SLC, GO!!! Sarah Lawrence College is nothing short of amazing.
This was hilarious. I'm deciding betweent SLC and Emerson for a major in Literature and a minor in Theatre. I'm going up there in a few weeks to tour the campus. Is the theatre dept any good?
hahaha OMG Jen this is amazing. I love the demetria bit. I can't believe I haven't seen this before. Great!! I can't wait to see your film at the end of the year.
I know this is not your intention, but I was just admitted to slc and am deciding between it and reed college... this video made me question whether slc is my place. It was funny, but I want a school with demanding academics, along with the interesting smart people, and I want to be prepared for the future.
do students often go into nyc?
would you recommend sarah lawrence?
haha, he was my tour guide! I wonder if he remembers that bob saget and his daughter were on our tour =]
I definitely recommend SLC. It is very much what you make of it: if you want demanding academics, take demanding classes. Part of your learning here comes from independent research projects, so you are also designing the difficulty of your work. Learning to do that for yourself rather than relying on a professor to make you work is what will prepare you for the future.
Some students go to NYC, some don't.
One of my friends transferred here from Reed, if you want I can put you in touch w/her.
I also just got admitted to sarah lawrence, with a fair amount of scholarship money, but it's still going to be an incredibly expensive way to go to school if I go. As a student, is it worth the tens of thousands of dollars of loans? as opposed to, say, william and mary, which doesn't offer the same kind of alternative education, but would cost me a fraction of the price.
This video is right on - no lies. The fact that it was a conference project shows the insubstantiability of academic standards that some professors will allow. I went there in 1994, studied whatever the hell I wanted (although I was serious about lit. and classical piano -- and had some great profs), but the pace and attitude of the school did not prepare me at all for what would lay ahead after graduation. Be warned!
Hmm... I guess it takes a mockumentary to make you truly aware of the beauty that is Bohemia. I'm a girl raised in a mostly conservative area in the south.
Was that your conference work? If it was then SLC is not the place it used to be. There is nothing wrong with mocking the place you went to school, but be aware of the message you send to people thinking about attending in the future. The admissions office makes many mistakes--and Dave McRee as a theatre professor is responsible for none of them.
Hi thatwasmewhodidit, I did this film for conference work. I don't know when you went to school here, so I can't tell you what has changed here, but I am not suggesting that these things are all true. The film simply takes things said about the school to the extreme, and is meant to be funny - hence mockumentary. I realize that prospective students will see this film, but I hope they wouldn't base their decisions on spoofs of the school. I'm sorry if I offended you.
Hi McWalker, I go to Sarah Lawrence. It's a great school! I have some friends who are studying creative writing. If you want, I can try to put you in touch with them so they can give you more information about our writing program. If you're interested or have other questions, email me at jjohnson (at) gm (dot) slc (dot) edu
Yes pleze, I would luv for that to happen. My fear of college is that I'd end up majoring in english instead of Creative Writing, If you could, i would luv to speak with your friends.

is it really obvious that there are so many more girls than boys?

Oh he is a tour guide... I was interviewing him to find out what kinds of things get said on tours and he volunteered to play the part. :)

lol so this actually made me like your school more.
sarah lawrence is my number one choice, but i'm really freaking out over whether i'll get in.
i'm also a creative writing major, i love that sarah lawrence offers that option rather than a cookie-cutter english one.
anyway i love this.
organizedchaos23 4 years ago
I hear if you Early Decision it, it could help you good in getting in.
But they say only ED college if you really wanna get in, 'cause if they except you, then you HAVE to attend that college.
there's also a bad side to ED in terms of financial gain, but im not sure.
