Also can be used (if you don't have an installation disk) "Avira NTFS4DOS" or simply "NTFS4DOS", wich can be found in HBCD(Hiren's Boot CD and UBCD(Ultimate Boot CD). Use commands like in the video ( "chkdsk /r /f", then if not boot after restart use the command "fixboot"). Good luck

Fixed my friend's pc with this problem, did a recovery but the blue screen came back again...HP has a built in hard drive test you can run, just go into bios to find it.

I ran it and it gave me an error code. I e-mailed HP and they said the hard drive is going bad.

first thing you can try is to go into recovery console and run chkdsk to see if that fixes the problem.

Can you answer this question for me please? What makes the Unmountable Boot volume happen? Is it due to like inserting devices? I have an AC adapter for my computer, but it's not working.. There is this green light that's supposed to light up each time I plug it in, but it doesn't even turn on. The AC adapter doesn't give power to my laptop, it seems that the power doesn't pass through. Is it because I have a cut on the cord or something? My Laptop has a recharging and Umount boot prob. Plz help

this is from the ADRC site, they offer free software & tips on data recovery...it says to go to recovery console and run chkdsk /r another problem may be the boot.ini file is corrupted.

I had to type - "logon" which gave me C:|>logon

It resulted with:

C:\>WINDOWS

At that point I could type "fixboot", and then "fixmbr". Exited after and restarted the PC........ IT WORKED!!!!!

I came back from school an was like "LET'S TURN ON MAH LAPTOP :D". I got the same BSoD as you. I called a friend for help. Then I got a xP installer disc and did CHKDSK /r and waited over the night. It didn't worked at all.

it is not detecting the HD (Hard Drive). You might want to check bios. Make sure BIOS is recognizing the hard drive. If it is then you have to reinstall the OS. Need help hit me up.

Any XP cd should be able to do a system repair on any XP operating system.

You really should have gotten one when you bought your computer, if not, you're gonna have to ask around or something. You can also download (not really legally) some untouched XP iso files, and burn those to a CD/DVD and use them to do a repair install. (I'm not going to be able to help you with that though)

Yes, you do need to set it to boot from your CD drive first, before the harddrive.

After I press R and do all that, the black screen that is SUPPOSED to say 1: C:\WINDOWS does not pop up, but I type in fixboot and it says it fixes it or successfully re-writes some type of data but it does not fix it, it takes me back to the unmountable_boot_volume screen. I also tried fixmbr but that didn't work either.

Of course I'm sitting there like "WHY!?!?!?" Had to run around the entire school to find the dell Operating System Repair disk. Going though this process he showed above, minus the floppies. It's hellish.

Your fix worked! It's a good thing my Dell reinstallation cd which contained an OEM of windows xp entered the recovery screen 5 minutes after the same cd warned that it would completely wipeout all the data in my computer.

Borrow one from someone, if you legitimately own XP you can download the image file and burn it to a disk, and I think you can order a disk from Micro$oft.
