I agree the TA31 models do have too much magnification for CQB. Not that I nor any civi sees, but I use for hunting. I love my TA31f, my eotech 552xr308, and my m68cco. But the optic I own that prevails above all the rest is a trijicon TA47-2. It's a 2x scope with BA and is effective at longer range.
awesome sights. A range coach taught us to put a big piece of duct tape over 95% of the fiberoptic to darken the reticle on sunny days. Some people like the darker reticle, others like it bright. At night you can stargaze better, too.
You all would be fools to buy this, the EoTech is the way to go! It is the best by far and the reason is you can get on target faster! You can sight your EoTech is at 50 yards and be good up to 300 yards! SO what the Trijicon has magnification, you dont need it! You will NEVER in life have to use it in a battle if you are a civi! In the real SHTF situations you would be in very CQB, having the Trijicon would hinder your effectiveness! If you were to ambush a scope would be the better choice!

depends on which rail system you go with and just for this comment i weighed them i first weighed my colt a2's handguards and then my knights armament rail system and the rail system is only an ounce and 3 grams heavier so there isnt a big difference
it depends also (lol) ok depends on which model ar you own and barrel length and etc etc like a car-15 ar has a shorter handguard than a standard ar base m-16 type for example i own a colt a-2 sportster which is a direct base off of colts car-15 or m4 model rifle so the handguards are different length because you can only install a rail system thats the same length of your handguards

Doctor sights are getting harder to get. Apparently Germany, the country they're fabricated in have stopped exportation. At least that's why my guy told me. If you're in the US it might be a totally different tune.

No , you can't. Not any shooter can hit a man-sized target at such a distance even with an M24.
250-300 is a good and realistic distance for an m4 with an acog. With some practice and an adjusted m4 you can get a bit more, but 1100 meters? No way, man.
don't snipers regularly hit targets with the m24 at over a mile a way? (more than 1100 meters) just asking because US army snipers have many stories of these shots.
As a side note, a friend of mine shoots at 1 mile minimums, and he hits his targets, unfortunately there are not many ranges or places one can go to enjoy or afford LD shooting.

Alot of people enjoy using weapons like the ar15 and like to target shoot and sometimes even hunt with them. The Acog is a great site to do this with and takes away the huge tube that alot of longer/medium range scopes are known for.
ACOG's are just reliable enough said. I dropped 1k for an EOtech with magnification flip to side mount. It's defiantly nice but just doesn't seem as reliable as having it all in one sight if you get the DOC. It does take some getting used to to use the DOC from a more awkward position without the cheek-wield. Great video though very informative.
Thanks! I agree about the EOTechs. By the time you add a 4x magnifier, you're into it as much as an ACOG. You might as well get a TA31TRD and maybe even save a little money. But for pure close range combat type shooting, you can't beat an EOTech. The magnifiers are a nice touch, but if you want magnification on a combat optic, I recommend the ACOGs.

ACOG stands for Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight. Combat being the keyword. It's made for combat. You're right, at 4x magnification it's not a varmint scope, yet Trijicon ACOGs are not ridiculous by any means. They are one of the toughest rifle scopes on the planet and work extremely well for what they are designed to do.
And I'm not trying to sound liberal or anything (I live in north central iowa and i'm about as far from liberal as you can get) but if they're used for combat, you wouldn't need one unless your going to be in a combat situation..... right? Unless you are doing the simulated target shoots/tourniments.
I would have dissagree on that one. The ar-15 platform is becoming the mose widely used rifle choice in predetor and varmint hunting.. Very accurate and its semi-auto. And if you have an extra 900 sitting around i would buy some reloading supplies/ammo. (only because of who we elected president). Or put it into a decent scope and then put a new trigger, maybe a 1:7" twist barrel and some other stuff.. the accessories to the ar-15 are endless.
Don't get me wrong... I love the AR15. I'm just saying that the rifle is similar to the ACOG in that it was not designed at a target or varmint rifle. Like the ACOG, it's made for war. In the past year I've bought 2 mini 14s, a sig 556pistol, a tec 9 and 3 other pistols and none of them are for hunting or the range. I,ll be ready to defend my family aginst whatever poses a threat.
We have 2 AR-15's a kimber 45 acp, 2 44 mag's (one is a smith and wesson and the other is a ruger super black hawk) and a mini 14, and various other shotguns and rifles. (1500 rounds of .223 and about 500 for the 22-250 and 1200 for the 45 acp.
Uhm... SF chose the tan one.... I wonder who makes the best decision? LOL. The TA01 works on all lighting conditions, just the reticle is not illuminated during daylight.

Good review, but a minor correction...tritium itself doesn't glow. Tritium is a beta emitter (high energy electrons). These are invisible to the human eye. Beta particles strike a phosphorus layer, exiting it causing delayed phosphorescence. Depending on the type of phosphorus layer, different colors may be emitted.

No, you can use them on an airsoft gun that has a weaver mount system. But what you see is designed for military and law enforcement use in mind. meant to be on a real rifle.

but regardless if you can mount it. i wouldn't spend one thousand dollars on an ACOG when you most likely wont need something that has magnification for airsoft, stick with red dot scope look a likes that have no magnification

i can hit 1100 meters with my 4x acog on my m4...i have a m203,peq/15 lasor, surefire taclight, and a surpressor so the weight up front helps alot

No , you can't. Not any shooter can hit a man-sized target at such a distance even with an M24.
250-300 is a good and realistic distance for an m4 with an acog. With some practice and an adjusted m4 you can get a bit more, but 1100 meters? No way, man.

Yes, a qualified sniper can shoot down a human-size target from 1100 meters.
As for regularity, well - the ideal distance is around 800 - 1000 meters. But combat directs many unexpected situations, and we all get along :-)

As a side note, a friend of mine shoots at 1 mile minimums, and he hits his targets, unfortunately there are not many ranges or places one can go to enjoy or afford LD shooting.

SUSAT's are better because u can chose wether u want the recticule illuminated or not one downside though, if u stamp on them they break, trust me

Um... we mount them to our guns and look through them.
Also, we could add a killflash, lens covers, docter or trijicon 8.0 moa red dot on it.

Alot of people enjoy using weapons like the ar15 and like to target shoot and sometimes even hunt with them. The Acog is a great site to do this with and takes away the huge tube that alot of longer/medium range scopes are known for.

ACOG's are just reliable enough said. I dropped 1k for an EOtech with magnification flip to side mount. It's defiantly nice but just doesn't seem as reliable as having it all in one sight if you get the DOC. It does take some getting used to to use the DOC from a more awkward position without the cheek-wield. Great video though very informative.

Thanks! I agree about the EOTechs. By the time you add a 4x magnifier, you're into it as much as an ACOG. You might as well get a TA31TRD and maybe even save a little money. But for pure close range combat type shooting, you can't beat an EOTech. The magnifiers are a nice touch, but if you want magnification on a combat optic, I recommend the ACOGs.

why would you buy something like this? i think its a waste of money to buy a nice ar-15 and only use it at the range. its redicelous. (and obviously this wouldn't be your first choice for predetor or varmint hunting.......

ACOG stands for Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight. Combat being the keyword. It's made for combat. You're right, at 4x magnification it's not a varmint scope, yet Trijicon ACOGs are not ridiculous by any means. They are one of the toughest rifle scopes on the planet and work extremely well for what they are designed to do.

I would have dissagree on that one. The ar-15 platform is becoming the mose widely used rifle choice in predetor and varmint hunting.. Very accurate and its semi-auto. And if you have an extra 900 sitting around i would buy some reloading supplies/ammo. (only because of who we elected president). Or put it into a decent scope and then put a new trigger, maybe a 1:7" twist barrel and some other stuff.. the accessories to the ar-15 are endless.

Don't get me wrong... I love the AR15. I'm just saying that the rifle is similar to the ACOG in that it was not designed at a target or varmint rifle. Like the ACOG, it's made for war. Sure, it works good against prairie dogs and coyotes too. But in the end, it's a combat weapon. That's why the liberals hate it.

speaking of the liberals, Obama just presented a new gun ban, you need a special "hard to get" licence for them. The ban includes Ar-15's (obviously), Mini 14, 1911's, shotguns or rifles with pistol grips, Shotguns with magazine extenders. I think they also want to put a limit on how much ammo you buy and they want to put a tax stamp on bullets for the people who reload.

In the past year I've bought 2 mini 14s, a sig 556pistol, a tec 9 and 3 other pistols and none of them are for hunting or the range. I,ll be ready to defend my family aginst whatever poses a threat.

We have 2 AR-15's a kimber 45 acp, 2 44 mag's (one is a smith and wesson and the other is a ruger super black hawk) and a mini 14, and various other shotguns and rifles. (1500 rounds of .223 and about 500 for the 22-250 and 1200 for the 45 acp.

Uhm... SF chose the tan one.... I wonder who makes the best decision? LOL. The TA01 works on all lighting conditions, just the reticle is not illuminated during daylight.
