don't listen to 90% of the people saying you sound like dane cook. i guess you cant fucking be a comedian without some dumbass saying you sound like fucking dane cook.
yeah, this guy is dane jr. fuck that. carlin smoked w/ my dad. he called em 'funny cigarettes.' far beyond my time, but he's good and you can see his style in a lot of youngins
It's because of a stlye of starting comedy i learned from a book. You use the style of another comedian, in order to feel how timing and stuff works. Then you gradually find your own style. This was me in stage one. I'm not like Dane anymore. This was the first time i ever performed. It was a really good technique, and it really got me on my way to understanding good timing.
Wise words, but you should try and be original from the start! I'm going to do stand up soon too. I'll be honest, you were good for a first time set. What were your feelings before and after the show?
I did sound like Cook at the time. This was my first time ever performing and i was using a tecnique that i read in a book for starting comics. You use a comedian that your jokes sound similar to, and you perform in their style. Gradually, as you create more jokes and stuff, you drift from this style making your own. My comedy is much differnt from Dane's now im glad to say. Comedy takes a long time to perfect, this was me in stage one.
so i just looked it up, and the joke was by Ellen DeGeneres and it very similar to mine. It dates before i even thought of doing stand-up and let's face it even if it wasnt, its Ellen DeGeneres. So the joke is taken out of my act. Ah well, i still have others.
IMO, while you should try to separate your work from that of others, you shouldn't be disconnecting yourself from a topic just because it has been treaded on - there are multiple ways to do something, and if you can take another angle on it, go for it.
I would like to let you know i did not "Steal" the Go-Gurt joke, but have heard that another comedian has one similar to it. If someone could give me a link or something and i can find a date on it, i would be happy to take it out of my act.
That was funny dude!
