This music was freaking great. Status Seeker was an awesome staple on the Images Words Tour, was started with a drum solo. Just have to be honest our fav band would have gone nowhere without James. He led the band to initial stardom. Phenomenal voice.

@funkster007 Excuse but in my opinion he was not amazing...he was mediocre but its ok because he was still learning and progressing... however i like his phrasing...its the only thing that stayed awesome in petrucci through the years...however the early years were immature as far as technique and song writing and the latest years have become boring and predictable... My favorite era of petrucci is everything from images and words up to six degrees (side projects included) + his solo album....

@nemogre Everyone has their opinions so I'm not knocking that. Of course he has evolved as a player writing-wise and on a technical level, but I would never classify him as a "shitty" player even on the first album.(dont forget they recorded that on a budget as well) That would be about as ignorant as saying EVH wasn't influential as a guitarist. JP was already ahead of the pack as far as the prog metal scene goes. Anyway, I will agree on IAW to Six degrees is my fav era too.

@funkster007 let me explain. petrucci's playing back then was "shitty" not in comparison to all metal guitar players but in comparison with his today playing and with the players he was influenced by (steve morse, al di meola, malmsteen etc) know what i mean? but then again many of his fast runs and especially sweeped arpeggios were really muddy and fast sounding....but not at all accurate...even today he has flaws that sometimes are really obvious...

They were so cool back in these days. They seem a lot more chilled out, long hair, smoking and drinking etc. they look like real rockers, but just happen to be virtuoso musicians too!

Now, (petrucci esspecially) they look a bit nerdy and boring (Rudess looks like gollum, but plays like gandalf!) even if they can all play like wizzards, they're not that exciting to watch anymore. They're much cooler with long hair and leather jackets etc, I think.

These guys are probably very cool to chill with. The ONLY person I don't like (going by his interviews) is Kevin Moore. They all know they;'re good, but that's confidence. He comes off as a totally cocky douchebag. He must kick himself in the ass everyday for leaving. Sure, he does side projects. But nothing of this level. OSI is his best current gig imo, and it's started by Jim Matteos (Fates Warning).

IAW is great, yes. I even love WDADU, but you really, really need to listen to later CDs. Six Degrees, Metro 2, etc....YOu're missing out, and to say they aren't as good shows that have indeed not listened fully to their newer music.
