The book had no message, it was just nothing but de Sade's sick fantasies. I guess Pasolini wanted to make a film that would really shock the world.

Good lord, the scene where they "inspect" the girls was so hard when I first saw it, and that was only in the first bloody half hour. The scene where they are introduced to their new home absolutely scared the shit out of me @_@ Such an amazing filmie, so deep and powerfully moving and beautifully shot, the imagery and cinematography are amazing, I wish Pasolini lived 'til his nineties so he could make more masterpieces like Salo'..

I wouldn't be surprised if it was, he already made the "Trilogy of Life" before Salo' which was a celebration of life and love and the human body, and Salo' sorta did the direct opposite of that, so I guess it'd make sense if he made a "Trilogy of Death" or something in return x) but you can't get any darker than the 120 Days of Sodom, though.. @_@ x

FYI : This movie was based on a "book" written by Donatien Alphonse François De Sade. Born in 1740 he would be sent to jail quite often for sexual offenses/crime w.e . He had an immense mind, spending time thinking about monstrous orgies and what not, and that's how this movie came to be. Thanks to something written by the Marquis Of Sade. If you got interested in the movie I suggest to read the book (though I haven't finish seen the movie yet) I bet it's way more insane then this.

I wasn't aware that Salo was based off a book by De Sade; The movie is quite loaded and at times, alienating. I've read a few of the Marquess' plays and he certainly had a very particular way with words.
