During the Iran-Iraq war i think in the 70's but i might be wrong . Saddam Hussein invaded Iran , some might say persuaded by the Americans after the fall of the Shah in Iran ( American friendly ) and Ayatoll took over ( Fanatic Islam not so friendly to America ) . Saddam thought the Iranian Army would be weak after the Iranian Army was purged by the Islamic Revolution in Iran !!!! . After intial gains Iraq got pushed back and was in full retreat . Ended in a stale mate
