Really good deer! I live in Moberly, MO and I believe the 4-point restriction has done absolute wonders for our area. Went from seeing 6 and 8-points @ 100-120" to seeing a 192" killed on our property last year and having to let a 150-class 8 walk.
@1lbtomato87 agreed i hunt in shelby county. we are seeing multiple bucks chasing a doe. we put a hurten on the doe's the last 5 years. the bucks are getting big and more of them.
Still that's a nice buck that may be 5 1/2 but can't tell from the night video footage. If it's 5 1/2, it needed to be taken. If I couldn't convince myself he was older than 4 1/2, I'd had to let him walk rather than face the owner when we pulled the jaw. You can't put him back if you're wrong. In addition to knowing you are carrying deer over that will be 5 1/2 year old shooters next year, you score a lot of points with land owners when you show the video of what you let walk.
Unless you're taking the buck as a management buck due to the lacking G4s, most trophy ranch owners in texas would be upset that you didn't carry the buck to 5 1/2. The 4 1/2 is the hardest buck to pass because the deer is full grown as far as body size but depleted nutrients growing his body that year. Next year the buck will be able to put it all into the antlers. We generally look at the trophy deer at 5 1/2 and ask ourself's if the buck could go 160 at 6 1/2. If not, we take em at 5 1/2.
dude nice deer. i wish i could see something like that where i hunt. hopefully i see something like this weekend 4 youth weekend up in jamesport missouri
@TropicisB3ast Thanks for commenting I hope you see one bigger. Its taken us six years to get this farm this good for big bucks. I think the four point restriction really helped this particular area also. Good luck hunting, if you get a good one email us a picture.
