I did this - it was my first open water swim too and I barely made it through the swim. I'm hooked though; signed up and ready to go for Jerseyman 2010. Good luck all!
@KJGav1 I had several other races in 2009 including Olympic distances, but Jerseyman will forever be my number one. I am already registered for this race in 2010 and thinking of making it my annual with the hope to move to 1/2 Ironman.
Sold out! :-( I waited too long to register. I was not aware that it is a popular race.
To redeem myself I signed up for two other back-to-back races, for this and the next weekend. Both are sprint distances, but it will keep me in shape for the next month's NYC Olympic Tri.
I AM! I'm calling blackbear my "redemption" race. I hope finish under 6 hours! I've had really good training since the last race and find that I'm better now for actual racing.
Just got to put the time in. I had a terrible race. I have a video about the race too. The water I thought decent. I have another half IM on the 31st and then Ironman UK in August. Keep it up and good luck with the rest of your season.
This must have been the spint. Cause I didn't see any yellow caps. For some reason, the organizers thought BLACK caps would be easy to sight in a river that was very murky.

Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your race. Hopefully the next one will be more fun.
Are you, by any chance, planning to do the Black Bear Tri on May 31st? I am planning to "tri" it and then the Olympic distance in July.
How long do you think it will take you to complete the IM?

Yes, it was my first open water sprint. The yellow caps were the last wave of the race and I am glad that caps were a bright color.
That day the water was cold and indeed murky. Putting a black cap would not give me any extra confidence boost.
Respect to you going for Half Iron distance. I hope I can do it one day too.
