She wasn't really condoning Jeff's behavior, she was calling Nancy on her behavior though. Complex situation and both Nancy and Jeff proved many times over to be immature and selfish and definitely never should've been married.
Loved this show. The relationships between the characters were like those of real people. Complex. Every problem was not always resolved easily.
I felt sorry for Kate. She love all three of her children, and her husband, and they never seemed to appreciate it, especially Nancy, who was just as immature as her husband.
@AppallingRetroTrash I couldn't agree with you more! I was a teenager when this show was on (and never missed an episode) and I just loved "Kate". I wanted nothing more than to be sitting with her in her kitchen with a cup of coffee and talking about life. I also thought her sense of humour was so wonderfully dry and witty.
@pbamse lol...Awww, give poor Donna Reed a break. She wasn't as "perfect" as some of the other moms of that era. I thought she was more "progressive" for that era than most. In a way she was like Kate, she didn't sugar coat things for her kids either.
The tension created by MB-B paling Nancy as being so totally different than the mother character, yet still the loving daughter, added to the show in many ways.
@homebuiltindoorplane ...She was great as Nancy. Totally different interpretation of the character from Meredith Baxter, but a great performance. Whether intense and angry, or soft and quiet - she had a good range.

I always hated the mother on this show - she was such a cold fish. And always unhappy.

@kbirdusa I always loved her. Calm, in control, straightforward.

@kbirdusa It is called real. The Donna Reed perfect mother's era was gone 20 years ago.

Mom handing her pregnant daughter a drink? TV sure has changed.

Geez, hard to believe that Kate is totally condoning Jeff's cheating and saying you don't sacrifice your family because of it.
