Just bought a new one from someone for only €160. i love this thing for its simplicity, it's just what I needed. No nonsense multitrack recording! Twice the amount of tracks compared to my old Fostex 4 track cassette multi tracker for a fraction of the price.
well, i got it so i wouldn't have to mess with a computer but still wanted digital...dealing with pro toos sucks way tooooooooo much stuff you gotta do. i'd rather go to college and take a class that deal with pro-tools..ut the 008 is outstanding for the price and i've heard som very nive recording from this unit
@godfather301a - I'm British, and am pretty sure we don't speak like this guy ;-) I think he's an Aussie or a Kiwi...
Onto the DP-008 itself... This is a fantastic bit of kit. I am a keyboard player and although this is geared towards guitarists / vocalists, it's perfect for us tech geeks as well!
I hate using computers for digital recording; the DP-008 is so easy to use. I have limited polyphony on stuff like the Blofeld or TI Snow, but thanks to the DP-008, I can keep on layering!
Besides the 8 tracks the best feature is auto punch in and out added the foot switch input really make cleaning up takes waaaaay easier! This was NOT possible with the dp-004. It took many takes, frustration and patience to get all the takes perfect...yes even sketchpad recordings needs to sound good to get the right musicians interested in projects. THUS for this DP-008 is a massive improvement!! The interface is also a lot friendlier for example access to EQ, metronome & tuner.
What a great unit. It is super-easy to use and the audio is excellent.
All analog rotary controls work wonderfully. There are no surprises.
You record all your tracks, then do a stereo mixdown. Then you copy the mixdown to a segment of the card used to move stuff to the PC (done with the menu). That's the most complex concept.... no problem. I give it a 9 out of 10. (nobody gets a 10)
I bought one of these and I love it. One problem I was wondering about is, you can set the end point but what about editing the start? I mean, when you are playing everything yourself, there can be different delays in getting from record to your instrument. Am I missing something ?
Nice introduction to this marvelous machine. I received mine a week ago and have used it daily since. The only downside I see is the way in which tracks and masters are exported. Seems a dedicated, software based method could have been better, particularly for computer users (though you actually don't need a computer to save if you use outputs to other types of gear). But other than that, no complaints.
i bought the dp 004 a year ago and i am so mad that this came out recently! i would have definately waited to save up and get 8 tracks and all the new perks.
as for SD and SDHC technicalities, it records onto both just like the dp 004 and it should export masters to WAV files just like the 004, and you can go to the CD from there.
It does record to certain tested brands of sd and sdhc cards listed on tascam's website. I think supported up to 32gb. I chose this model over the dp 004 cause of the xlr options, reverb, eq, thus more tracks. Note: get the power adapter! Batteries don't last very long.

This thing sucks.
The instructions blow, and moving songs to a computer is impossible.
Worst spent money ever.
4wallstudios 8 months ago
@4wallstudios nonsense, moving songs is really easy and the instructions are simple. There are valid things to say, but not this

I believe you can export separate tracks for PC editing- and then bring them back into the Tascam.
