  • Very influenced by The Stones, in fact wasn't The Strolling Bones the name before The U. Ducklings.?

  • @rollingold1 - well here we go..........We were called The Strolling Bones for "ONE" gig. It was at our high school Talent Show. We didn't have a name at that point, so it was sort of tongue-in-cheek. We named ourselves "The Ugly Ducklings" before we played any other gigs!!!

  • @Nothin66 I was at that gig .... Robin couldn't play that night so you chose to play under a different name. Can't remember who subbed in for Robin. I know you were using the UD name before Robin got the gig 'cuz that's what you called yourselves when you played a dance @ St Marks Church on Orton Park Rd, one wknd, when Ray Hayes (RIP) was playin' drums. I remember 'cuz Crabtree called on the Mon about replacing Ray! Then you found Robin, playin' @ a West Hill CI function the following wknd.

  • Cool I remember those days in yorkville good stuff thanks guys

  • Very cool insite to an almost unknown band...in the U. S. anyway. Frickin radio always sucked and still does! Thx 4 sharing.

  • This Nicholas Jennings dude kills me with his 'know it all' comment about ".... using giant Marshall amps ......."! I don't remember any Marshall amps at Charlie Brown's, do you, Dave?

  • Nah, It was a huge "Fender Showman" of Glynn's & that gigantic "Traynor" of Roger's, with the "Leslie Tone Cabinet" built into it, that he's talkin' about. He just got his wires crossed, what with all of the interviews he was giving back around that time!

  • Sometime in 66-67 you guys played a dance at Lawrence Park Collegiate. I was a year too young to get in so I climbed up and watched through a gym window outside. In 1999 I went to the Warehouse to see all the great Toronto bands play again. I'm still waiting to see the video. What the hell happened to all the footage from that night?

P.S. Was at the Kensington Market CD release party at Hughs Room last week. Man I feel old now...

  • Hey Neek! I was at the MARKET thingie too! great show. I'll have some footage up on my channel soon. You're not old, man; you're seasoned! You can buy a "Live" video of The Ducks on Ebay, my handle is Nothin66. Look for more vid/footage of the warehouse gig on my channel soon. "The Band Played On" is from that show.

  • The Ducklings were the highlight of the Toronto Rock Revival show!! Thanks for the post!!!

  • Hey, Thanks for the compliment! That show was certainly intense. I really dug Triano's Mandala thing with George and Roy as well as Luke & The Apostles. McKenna really cranked it up too!

  • Anybody know where to find 'Haunted', the 60s anglo Montreal band, anfd their hit '1,2,5'.

    ozeeboy in oz

  • Google "ARFARF RECORDS". I think they are in the Boston area. They have a great Compilation

of All of The HAUNTED'S material, including both versions of "1,2,5".

  • When he mentions the first Stones concert at the Gardens there were still some great T.O. groups...Dave Mickey / Marsden was the M.C. and I'm pretty sure Luke and the Apostles were on the bill.

  • It wasn't "Luke & The Apostles" it was "John & Lee & The Checkmates"! Check out my vid of "Bring It Down Front" and you can see a photo of John & Lee with Mick Jagger at the gig!
