I was surprised that they billed the show with Cynic before BTBAM instead of immediately after Scale the Summit. It probably would've flowed better into the heavier style that way. While Cynic is a very different experience, I've got to say I love their music and it's some of the most progressive and unique stuff out there. I came because I wanted to see all the bands, really. And gongs and keyboards can totally be metal.
All of the bands were and are fucking excellent. DTP was the least proggy out of them all and cynic was probably the most. Some faggots at the show i went to were 'too metal' for cynic and some prog guys thought DTP was too simple. Just a matter of opinion and taste, but saying that any of these bands 'suck'...i dono man thats pretty retarded.
Everyone was great, imo. StS surprised me with their excellent tone and equal sound and DTP cause his stage presence was fucking in your face and his voice was nearly perfect, and it the band was just overall tight. I love Cynic and have seen them before and it was great to see them again. Plus, Sean Reinert was the best drummer that night. And rightfully so. BtBaM had some minor kinks to work out with the sound, but overall still great.
I kept thinking Cynic was trying to push Jesus on us. "Put your hands in the air... feel the Holy Spirit connect with your soul." I was pissed because it should've been Cynic, Scale, then Devin, then BTBAM. Cynic was terrible, and I can't believe I stood through their set. Still a good ass show.
I'm being honest, I didn't like Cynic at all. As musicians, individually, they were good, but their music was way too progressive to enjoy. At least with Scale it was a bit more interesting to listen to. I too was at this concert and I felt that they should've been before Devin. 9 of my friends felt the same way.
@TheImageOfInsanity your opinion is just wrong. there is no contrary opinion. there is no opinion at all. cynic is one of the greatest bands ever and you are wrong if you think otherwise.
and scale the summit sucks. if i wanted to hear a bunch of hollister kids practice their SCALES for 8 minutes, then i would go to someone's guitar lesson
Cynic wasn't even fun to listen to. They were good, but really. And they're not really one of the greatest bands ever. Again, if they are, then how come I don't like them? They weren't even interesting to listen to.
@TheImageOfInsanity you don't like them because ou don't know anything. listen to King of Those Who Know by Cynic. if you don't like that song you are a simple minded moron and wrong.
I like how you're not really changing my opinion in the least bit by saying I'm simple minded. I appreciate progressive music but there's a setting for it and Cynic really didn't fit it. Think of it like this, with DTP and BTBAM, I expected very heavy progressive, and I felt Cynic was Rush on crack (both negatively and positively) But I guess if I am simple minded, I'd rather be happy and simple than be a douche like yourself.
devin is so bad ass
and keyboards are used in tons of progressive metal bands
