I've ripped some phonebooks myself. Tell you what, if you will pay the shipping i'll send you a thick phonebook... betcha cant rip it. If you are willing to video tape it and post it i'll ship it to you. Msg me if your interested
No it's not, I actually rip thicker books much easier because of the leverage. You can study mechanics to realize why it is so. If its harder for you to do this look at your technigue or improve the pinching grip. And yes if the books gets thicker than you can get a grab on it it wont be possible to crack it,
If you do the trick properly, its cracking the book you do. if you look at first video, it shows that actual trick. and all you need is a little bit pinching with your hands and bend the cover until it cracks open. Thicker books = easier as long as you can pinch the cover. The reason for that is that you get better mechanical momentum. So thinner books are actually harder than thick ones, as long as we talk about the "crack open" method.
thing is that it gets easier if the book is thicker.
and it gets harder when its thinner. becayse you dont get as much leverage from its thickness. You can fool people to "know" how "hard" it is to rip a thicker book by gicing them a thin book to rip. Then you need to use a firm grip and good side pressure to initially rip it.
I have been trying so much but all i have is pain in my fingers (the book also fell on my knee) ='(
