  • Paice has never sounded better then on those oversize Ludwigs!!!!!.....I like how the bass is too loud after the solo and you can hear him ripping those riffs clear

  • Ian Paice is a god <3

  • nice.. nice...

  • POR LA P....MARE

  • the best

  • He hasn't soloed with this intensity since the early '80's. His style's completely changed.

  • slightly out of sync, but what fucking drumming.his belt buckle looks a bit uncomfortable to me..best playing a solo like that with no belt...play it naked .

  • fuck yeah.

  • Fact: August and September is also the two hottest months in Japan. Because of the hurricane season.

So that makes that drum solo even better.

  • Happy Birthday master :)

  • Deep Purple forrever....

  • Nenam_tiL is een kk kneus!

  • thumbs up if you want to hear travis barker do a cover to this!!

  • The "KING" of the drum set!!

  • i had no idea the drummer was that good! 1972? wow!~!!

  • Ian is a genious. amazing !!!!

  • @rayito2005 paice or guillan?

  • ian paice and alex van halen the best

  • Hey, John Bonham, that's truly amazing!!!

  • The FASTEST HANDS I've ever seen!!!!

  • Puta que pariu, que solo de bateria. Deep Purple é demais !!

  • his best solo is in "made in japan"...

  • no it's 1972, in Denmark ,during "machine head "tour...

  • This is a concert in Holland 1971

  • That was 1974... but this is the best drum solo in history... who knows better?

  • well it reminds me a lot bonham 's moby dick(sort of it in some parts)

  • @stkyriakoulisdr And if you listen to Joe Morello (Dave Brubeck) you'd say Bonham and Paice sorta remind you of Morello - from 10 years earlier. Thats not to take away from either of 'em but the similarity you noticed goes back even further to a guy they both admired. Of course both Bonham and Paice expanded their solos and both have very unique, dissimilar qualities. Paice on the hi hat here is amazing...

  • AMAZING DRUM IAN PAICE SOLO !!!!

  • te has confundido pero bueno el solo es brutal

  • Those are some pretty american looking japanese people....

  • @drumking570 Its the Made in Japan "TOUR"

  • @chezwick69 oh ok. I was expecting Japanese people...lol

  • @drumking570 I was totally thinking the same thing *lol

  • BIGGGGGGGGGGGGER!

  • For me still te best drummer ever

  • este video pertenece a escandinavia....no a la gira de japon del mismo año

  • I've seen Deep Purple five times in 1970,72,73,74,76

I love the music but I dislike your lies. This is not from Made in Japan and you know it.

    Why do you lie?

  • Who were the 4 fools who disliked this??? Ian is one of the greats of drumming! Real nice solo here!!! One of my faves.....

  • he is a one of the best drummer in the world, after Bohnam, Mitchell, Palmer, Powell,Copeland and The amazing Peart

  • @Beetlejules35

Yes. He is definitely one of THE BEST.

But please, don't forget Ginger Baker, of Cream.

  • I maybe wrong, but this is Machine Head Tour, live in Denmark... not Made In Japan, I've been researching a lot and MIJ it's just a live album, without videos... If i'm wrong pleaaaaase correct me!!! DP RULZ!

  • The more I listen this solo, the more amazing it sounds. If I could have any kit, it would probably be this one. I just love it...its perfect for both jazz and rock.

  • 4 ppl dislike this. they're not real MUSIC lovers. and the vid, well, this is what i call an AWESOME drummer! such a beast!

  • palmer paice better than bohnam

  • @Dojocho That's your opinion. They are all different. As a drummer, I can testify that each of their styles are challening in their own ways.

  • @tevisboe234 Obviously. That's not even opinion, it's science

  • he's the best technical drummer I know

  • @BlackSeaProductions You've obviously never heard Buddy Rich or Billy Cobham.

  • Maybe it's not Made in Japan, but a Concert called Scandinavian Night, live in Copenhagen, ecc.. '72

  • @Kankweezler .. for sure..

  • @tevisboe234 Have a couple bands to add to that. Cream, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Judas Priest, and The Police. That said, the first three bands I mentioned I think deserve the top seats just because each one of them changed rock as we know it today. Cream introduced sophistication...Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple both took it several steps further by adding the heavy metal and bluesy rhythms to it. All the bands I mentioned paved the way for today's bands.

  • @jetfreak4 I can't believe i left out Copeland off my top 20 list. i appreciate Carter quite a bit but i don't llisten to Dave Matthews anymore. I actually think it would be cool if Simon Phillips would tour the band.

  • That is my boy right there. "Ian Paice on the drums, YES!" Mad rudimentary skills and those floor toms sounded so good. and yes again below. Bonham/Paice are the best rock drummers. Difficult to argue. What if Bonham were alive and healthy today? I think he would levitate.

  • @eqsmooth I think they are among the best....Ginger Baker, Neil Peart, Carl Palmer, Stewart Copeland, Mitch Mitchellson, and Bill Ward are right up there with them. Carter Beauford I think deserves a spot there too. All these guys are equal in my opinion...take away any one of them and it's that much less we can learn.

  • Not only one of the best drummers in rock history, but he's still doing this at the top of his game from 1968 to today. 42 years at the top. Awesome. Who else can compete with that? Correct. No-one.

  • esto ya no existe hoy dia.... IMPRESIONANTE... un solo de bateria con dos cojones....

DEEP PURPLE - Made in Japan

    THE MULE!!!!

  • very cool

  • Magic forever!

  • what kind of organ is this

  • @Bthepilot Hammond B3. The best.

  • Paice definitely did his homework on Buddy Rich. I hear a lot of Buddy solo stuff here combined nicely with Ian's original stuff.

  • Dominic from Muse and Paice are the best!

  • The best drum solo !!!

  • awesome! I wonder how much cocaine he snifed before doing this solo? ;-) ´jajaja

  • @simon8307

you're talking about the wrong drummer friend.

  • No cocaine required. That is a matter of skill my friend. But it would be truly amazing to see Paice playing on the drums after he sniffed cocaine...as fast as his sticks would be hitting he might just burn a hole in the snare.

  • @jetfreak4 hes on coke.....

  • @craigerboy1 He is not on coke...I'm not sure he was ever on drugs to begin with. It's possible to play like this without drugs...it's called practice.

  • That's awesome!!! Incredible, wow!!!

  • This blew my head off!!!!!!!!!!! What a drummer!

  • Paice hace cosas QUE NADIE EN 38 AÑOS a podido igualar..

e hacer hoy en dia, te lo digo ES IMPORSIBLE QUE PILLES UN BATERISTA CON ESTAS CARECTERISTICAS...

Joder solo toca con un puto bombo!!!, y hace cosas como si tubiera 3 bombos !!

  • this is copenhagen

    no japan

  • ian paice is at bonhams level, no doubt. he also has the single pedal technique down with his triplets just as bonham did, paice also said bonham was his favorite drummer. u hear it alot in their music an in this solo. triplets, constant hi hat use, very good rudiments, etc.

  • ehehhe fidek

  • FENOMENO

  • I have that exact kit!

  • Ian paice has been listening to Buddy Rich ever so slightly but hasnt got his genius

    Ill leave it at that

  • @UNCIEAL No one has.

  • Those triplets starting at 6:15...he's the master!

  • I wouldn't say he beats Palmer and Bonham, but he is sure at their level, and also at the level of Neil Peart, Chester Thompson Bill Bruford, Billy Cobham and other awesome drummers.

  • you are right;specially BILLY COBHAM AND GINGER BAKER

  • DANG I FORGOT: Carl Palmer, Ringo Starr, Charlie Watts.... These guys are probably all in the RnR hall of fame.

  • Ringo hahahah

  • Ian Paice had perfect technique and skill. He's my personal favorite. Bonham was probably the most hard hitting and influential. Neil Peart has it all: technique, power, speed etc. Since there is no BEST drummer ever, here are a few that were terrific: Paice, Bonham, Keith Moon, Neil Peart, Mitch Mitchell, Cozy Powell, Ginger Baker, Tommy Aldridge, Bill Ward, Carmine Appice... to name a few.

"Sing on brother, play on drummer."

  • Totta, Machine Head tour tämä on. Mutta Paice on ihan mahoton...siinä on mallia soiton intensiteetistä, nopeudesta jne..kaiken lisäksi herra naputtelee yhä nuorempia suohon-ikääkin on jo aika paljon :) my fav in drummers

  • hijo de puta!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • awsome !!!!!.Ian beating Palmer and Bonham

  • this is not Made in Japan Tour, is Machine Head Tour, but is nice video, thz.

  • i havent seen a drum solo as good as this one anywhere befor an ive seen quite a few drum solos his accents speed stamina an well jus everythin is totally awsome DP ian paice for the win whooo!!!

  • Ian Paice is imho the best drummer EVER.

  • yes this is Copenhagen and guess what.. I WAS THERE!!! this was the my first DP concert..

  • i Envy you...... really I do :). You were part of Music History to see the Gods.

  • Deep Purple - Live made in japan 'Tour' 1972 Immer noch sehr gut für meine Ohren

  • Recorded live for the Danish TV at the KB Hallen in Copenhagen, March 1st 1972. Amazing gig, maybe even better than Made In Japan. Available on DVD and on Double CD - Black Night In Copenhagen.

  • Live in Denmark....no Japan....

  • made in japan is the name of the album

  • the solo only really starts at 2:22. hi hockey fights, and HI BLOUIN

  • yeah but its still crazilly immence lol

  • this is definitely copenhagen. watch the other footage from the copehagen show, this is definitely it. check out his shirt, same shirt.

  • yes, I got it on VHS.

  • that isn't made in japan show..

  • I think it is Copenhagen Denmark

  • me too

  • i think it's denmark too

  • I think this is the origin of the infamous "30 minute drum solo" from the 1970s. The Grateful Dead use to do them when Jerry Garcia was to tired to sing from being wasted. Took up a full side of an LP set in Made in Japan. I think the reference to Lucifer is that the audience is about to enter living hell, as all long rock drum solos are.

  • Yes, but this is one of the few that's bearable, and entertaining from start to finish.

  • There is a nice calmness in Ian Paice.

  • That's because he knows he can call on his skills at any time, and they'll be right there.

  • I agree... but maybe it was the drugs :P

    Great drummer that guy :D

  • fantastico questo video

  • buen solo

  • he was at his prime here....love this vid

  • Try the video from -93, solo in "Lazy" and when he is plaýing with Gary Moore, drums solo in "Hurricane". Also very nice!

  • I still think moby dick was better.

  • best drumsolo ever done

    best drummer

  • That's from Copenhagen in Denmark, it's played in KB-Hallen, and taped by Danmarks Radio (DR), now you know:)

  • thak you

  • Spettacolare!!

  • two stars

  • yourmomskates13,

Joey Jordison is not a good drummer, he just hits his pedals fast

  • @gflemm16

Sorra - its not all about the speed !!!! If you don`t know that, than the drums are not for you my friend !!!!

  • @gflemm16

    but this is the goodness?

the best guitars are the fastest... (for the most people)

  • amen......THIS IS A GOOD DRUMMER!!!!! ian for ever

  • @gflemm16 Joey Jordison is actually pretty good but Slipknot fans make him out to be godly when in fact he is just a decent drummer in a huge rock band. Sure to garner more praise than a better drummer in a lesser known band.

  • @gflemm16 he actually IS a good drummer, but not the best

  • @gflemm16 lol, fail comment.

  • Don't argue with this guy, he really knows his stuff. Greatest drummer "alive". He's been spotted with Elvis, by numerous credible wittnesses. Why are Bon/Zep fans so ignorant?

  • john bonam or however u spell his last name is the best drummer alive even joey jordisson thot so

  • John Bonham has been dead since 1980

  • holy shit no way joey jordisson?! he's fucking shit. i mean who gives a fuck what that face paintin bitch says?

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. i cant believe you though bonzo was still alive. zep broke up because of his death. dont walk onto a discussion about truly great drummers when you know nothing.

  • I think Bonzo is one of the best drummers of all time, obviously he is. But I'd say Keith Moon or Mitch Michell was the best.

  • 2nd best rock drummer around

    Carl Palmer is # 1

  • @SteelyDug

    Nahh

    # 1 Ian Paice

  • I used a recognizable segment of the mule(made in Japan ver.) in a drumming contest in the 90's & got 3rd.. I'm sure that's why

  • First time im seeing this one jaw dropping sweet.

Right up there with Moby Dick for me but dont think one is better then the other. You can hear that they were made around the same time in music, live drums sounded alot better in those days.

But both so different and so good in there own way.

  • the drum solo on the actual made in japan record is different. i think i like that version more.

  • this record was made in Copenhagen/Denmark 1972

  • the best drum solo ever made

  • idiota esa consierto se llama machine head tour ignorante no made in japan nose si lo asen de incompetente o para q lo vean pensando q es dl made in japan

despues lo be cualqier pendejo y dise q eso es el made in japan

    grande jean paace

  • This easily matches up with moby dick

  • Easily matches up to and surpasses Moby Dick.

  • A drummers drummer!

  • Think the nose candy was flowin' that night?

  • although a lot of people put it down.... i think fireball is a great record, especially fools and the mule

  • As for the Fireball LP, don't forget No No No, and No One Came. Ian Gillan said it was an album "designed to bring out the funk in the band", and that it did.

  • Una de las mejores muestras de este ecepcional bateria en The Mule.!!!!

    Genial!!!!!

  • Bill Ward

  • Ian Paice, John Bonham, Keith Moon, Buddy Rich, Ginger Baker, and Carl Palmer... My favorites!

  • Yes! Yes! Yes!! And I also have a liking for Corky Laing and Lee Kerslake!

  • Great guitsr/organ riff in this song...I always thought the guitar riff in Eddie Money's "Two Tickets to Paradise" was based on the riff in this Deep Purple song

  • I've always thought that Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear The Reaper", and Styx's "Come Sail Away" both contain drum fills that remind me of "The Mule". Anybody else know what I'm talking about?

  • absofuckinlutelly amazing one of the world's best!

  • Yes he is, but not enough people know it.

  • This stuff is great,it's timeless to me.ROCK!

  • bonham and paice the best drums in the history...

    Deep and Led RULES!!!

  • and bill ward ;)

  • bill ward in black sabbath did a very good job, and will be remember too

  • WOW WOW WOW !!!

my one or two ever prefered drums solo...

didn't know this version, but obviously the one on the record in Made in Japan...

    Absolutely awesome !!!

    thanks for sharing :-)

  • don't forget the solo in the album :

_ live in Europe .you fool no one mixed with the mule.

  • That's when he was using single headed rack toms on a bass shell mounted double holder, with ride cymbal off to the side, and angled high. He wasn't really comfortable with that posistioning, and only used it briefly, before switching to the tri-tom configuration on a floor stand, with ride cymbal low, level, and cose in.

  • I'll bet you don't even play drum's do ya,Bonham was great but there are other's as good or better, like Buddy rich who die before you were born and so did Bonham. You need ta SHUT UP.

  • bonzo's the greatest drummer of all time, nobody can discuss that!!!

  • lol, do not make me laugh, he was good, but definitely not the best

  • @designforliving Bonham was my idol but you should really listen to Joe Morello to hear who influenced him. Morello with Dave Brubeck 'Take Five' - its all on here. Do your self a favor and check 'em out. Type 'The Dave Brubeck Quartet "Take Five " (1959)' and also 'Joe Morello: Take 5 Drum Solo' in search. You may be in for a surprise (if ya ever come back to this thread)

    RIP JM

    RIP JHB

  • Thanks for posting and altHough it's not from the Made in Japan album nevertheless a great solo.

  • "We've got plenty of time here. Don't worry, we've got all night." Such a polite chap with the audience.

  • Hes only useing a single Ludwig Speedking pedal hes got great foot work like bonzo had that speed king was a great pedal back in the day

  • I'm well aware that this isn't from MIJ, but it is from the same tour. Too bad it's in B&W, and the camera work is lousy. As for the Bonham crack, he was a great player to the music, but not as a soloist, where Paice excels at both.

  • @charlessavarese WTF ??? R U serious ????? Ever see the live 2 DVD set from '03 called 'Led Zeppelin' DVD ? No, not 'How The West Was Won' or 'The Song Remains ....". The version of Moby Dick on DVD I - live 1970 Royal Albert Hall, is freakin' amazing. Not to knock Paices solo here but to applaud Paice and dismiss Bonhams solo abilities means yer either deaf, blind or both. No offense intended but its that clear. JHB was much more than just a 'heavy hitter' (the view of all non drummers).

  • @ironman5454 Spot on! Been watching that DVD and solo, Bonzo's cross-overs are amazing there! Both Ian and Bonzo are great drummers, but Moby Dick per John Bonham IS the epitomy of a rock drum solo. We're gonna GROOVE - is the key word!

  • And.... this isn't "Made in Japan" I'm pretty sure that there's no video footage of those shows that the Gold Double Album came from.

  • This isn't Japan. It's Live in Copenhagen, Denmark 1972

  • That's a terrible statement and you know it! Bonham and Paicy were both incredible drummers

  • this drum solo is fantastic

  • I agree. This isnt made in japan ffs.

  • im a massive purple fan but my god that was the biggest copy of moby dick by zeppelin..

    dammm

  • mmm maybe, remeber that purple is as great-important band as zeppelin and they're like a competion on talent MD came out erlier but still you can't denied Ian paice tallent

  • Why do you mean it is a copy of Moby Dick, i do not see anything that makes these two songs comparable except of that they both contain a drum solo.... By the way, this song contains a better drum solo than Moby Dick...
