I can't think of any other entertainers, in any genre, that exhibited such pure traits of honesty, honor and dignity as Jim and Jesse McReynolds. They treated each other with the same genuine respect as they did others; which is probably why they were one of the few "brother acts" to never break up. I always felt it was an honor just to be around them or to chat with them. God rest you Jim / God bless you Jesse!
griffcats and handy335, I totally agree with your comments. I first saw J&J in performance in the late 70's at the wonderful Kingston, Ontario Bluegrass Festival on the Rideau River. Beautiful festival site, many good memories. One year Jim and Jesse were on stage when a huge gust of wind arose, and blew down the spectators tent. BUT Jim's carefully coiffed pompadour only flattened a bit and returned to the way it was! And of course all the time, they performed like true professionals.
I heard them several times at bluegrass festivals in the 1970s. great memories, now all this time later, I realize that this kind of greatness is so very rare. To think they traveled all over for very little money with great sincerity and talent, the exact opposite of the big performers in music today
