@ENTERTAINMENT35 No her name is Mike McGuirk. She announced a lot of matches that I saw on Primetime. I may be remembering this wrong but most of the matches on Superstars, Wrestling Challenge, SNME and the Main Event were still The Fink but she announced a lot of stuff that you would see from MSG, Boston Gardens and Maple Leaf Gardens. I saw her at most (maybe all, like I said I don't remember exactly) house shows I went to at this time. I don't remember exactly when she came in but she was
@ENTERTAINMENT35 around for a few years. She was somehow involved in the sex scandals that WWE were involved in a few years later. She was also married to Brian Blair.
No, they weren't the only part of it. They always had a feature match, not to mention the interview segments like Piper's Pit, Brother Love, etc. , where something always went down. Plus the commentary was almost always funny. Way funnier than it was later on. But those programs weren't the only thing on. There was also prime time wrestling, where quite a few of the matches were not jobber matches and they had the segments with Gorilla and Heenan, which were classic.
@squidlad This match took place in May 1990, about two years before those characters.. Back when Repo Man was Smash of Demolition. None of those guys were part of the the classic era. It was over by then.
@squidlad The jobber matches were funny most of the time, so they had entertainemt value. My guess is you're a fan of current wrestling. I think I've turned it on 5 times in the past 7 years and every time it was the same wrestlers talking about the same match coming up, John Cena vs. Randy orton. Are they still doing that one? Anyway, this wasn't actually a jobber match CadilladL was commenting on. Just sayin...
@squidlad Yes, some of them had entertainment value. I didn't claim jobber matches was quality programming. They were the worst part of it. There were a lot more programming options back then. Though, I'm not really sure why you brought up jobber matches in the first place, when it has nothing to do with the match posted. What is your idea of quality programming, anyway? I assume you are/were a wrestling fan of some sort.
"They were the worst part of it" - They were the only part of it! Wrestling Challenge and Superstars featured nothing else other than jobber matches and if you were lucky the occasional feature match. When I watch wrestling I'd like to see some...you know...wrestling. Not one guy get totally squashed by another guy in a couple of minutes. How is that entertaining?
@squidlad Also, SNME and wrestling on the MSG network, which featured all the matches from madison square Garden live. There was plenty of...you know... wrestling?
@squidlad Prime Time Wrestling was on every week, MSG was every month and SNME was more like 6 times a year, 8 or 9 if you count the Friday night Main Event. But considering your age and the fact that you may have not had the same programming in Ireland, I wouldn't expect you to know that.
Prime Time showed matches from house shows and replays from Superstars and Challenge. There were a grand total of four SNME's in 1990. Four PPV's a year. That's still about 90% of WWF's programming consisting of lousy squash matches.
@squidlad How do you figure? 90% of the matches on Superstars and Challenge weren't even squash matches. If they had five matches, one of them was a feature match. Prime Time was at least half feature matches, MSG was pretty much all feature matches and 1990 had 6 main events, if you count the Friday Night ones. . And it was also before Mcmahon's monopoly, you had NWA, AWA, USWA, etc. So you actually had much more wrestling back then.
Yes but your bias because you've got the internet cable and what have you. We didn't have any of that back when it all began in the place that I knew so well. I guess we've got to take away what we can from this and try to learn that you can't always be doing the right thing. You and I must learn to prosper in the new world of which it is so an always be smiling when you walk out the door and if i pillow whih one 874845.......
These two were very close friends and traveling buddies, IRL. They had a tag team in the Pacific Northwest in Don Owen's territory. Martel told a story about he and Roddy traveling together when Mt. St. Helens erupted.
huh, they really put a lot of effort into this tournament then. No semi-finals cos only Tito and Perfect passed the first round? :P lame
Martel deserved better than this
marsharent 3 months ago
for anyone who wants to know, the first round matches were: Perfect vs Snuka, Piper vs Martel, Bravo vs Beefcake and Santana vs Akeem.

Wrestling at its best. Sure they had the cartoon, etc..but, matches like this were top notch. The crowd reaction, the electricity was unreal.

Yeah The Viking, Papa Shango and the Repo Man going out week after week to beat up jobbers. Truly riviting television.

Okay fine then. So Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Tugboat and Dino Bravo going out week after week to beat up jobbers was really good then?
