I always took her 'I could never love a man' line to be a reference to not being able to love again, generally (hence the next lines: 'cos love and pain go hand in hand, and I can't do it again') You could interpret it in other ways, of course - I think that's the beauty of a lot of her lyrics, they have that poetry to them that can resonate in more than one way and touch more people that way. :-)

This is one of my faves of hers too - it's sad but comforting.
