Lasers and electrosurgery are very different; the laser cuts with controlled heat generated by the laser's interaction with the fiber tip and the tissue. The zone of coagulation is much smaller with a laser and no electrical currents are applied to the patient, thus there are no concerns in cardiac patients or patients with implanted cardiac devices. Finally, many troughing cases such as this can be accomplished without anesthesia, unlike electrosurgery.
