  • @LSLSoniaHollis I had to repeat the alphabet a few times before watching this video, but I guessed right all the spelled names in one go! Thank you very much, you inspired me to learn a new language :)

  • This was a little fast for me :( but so good

  • thanks soo much for this!

  • in the alphabet why do you stop a G ?

  • This is too fast for me. Teach slowly please, this enough to put people off learning

  • why do they move their lips if they snt hear each other?

  • @Kelly50057 because a lot of deaf people can lip read. especially those who weren't born deaf...

  • how am i suposed to read and observe sighning @ the same time? :/

  • @mikeymana because people who use bsl also lip read!

  • @Timalady whats ur point?

  • @mikeymana Due to the fact that they can lip read as well, they can put the order of the signs with what they can understand from lip reading to gain a better understanding of the situation. It's just another tool, I suppose. haha I know it's funny when she did the names and you just read her lips. :-)

  • For those who are learning BSL Level 1 - please check any signs with deaf people.

  • thanks...as a fully qualified interpreter I know there are regional dialects with regards to numbers, people etc and depending on the context signed utterances change according to meaning....when learning a language it is always best to immerse yourself with users of the language you wish to learn...bearing in mind that not all deaf people sign, and there are also differences in how everyone signs....just as hearing people do not speak exactly the same, but are still communicating in English..

  • @LSLSoniaHollis Yeah, I come from Stoke and my sister's deaf. She's lucky that she can still hear and does not require sign language but it's fun to point out that 'yellow' in Stoke sign language is the action of molten wax falling from the ear hahaha. That's weird, don't you think?

  • @LSLSoniaHollis an example of this is i learnt 1 sighn for 'good looking' and then learnt that sometimes the same sightn can be used for 'downs dyndrome'. that can cause much confusion!

  • @mikeymana Hi, thats why it is important to look at the context of your signs...and not individual signs because the meaning of a particular sign in isolation can mean a different thing when surrounded by other signs and the context changed...look at the semantics.

  • I'm sorry to say - I am a profoundly deaf native BSL user and I have spotted lots of flaws in your signing.

    - Your signs for four (4) and nine (9) are the same.

    - You sign O-K for okay - it is NOT BSL

    - Sunbathing is signed in wrong context - should be laying in sun.

    - You signed - looked dark and freezing - how can you tell its freezing??

    - Ladies toilet on the left - handshape is not right

I could go on.....!!! Please review your signing - check it with a deaf person.

  • I still find its all a bit fast for beginners!! but good to have as a resource for the future!

  • I this this is perfect for people trying to learn BSL but I think the part without text is a bit too fast. Well, for me anyway =P

  • @llMrPinoyll I agree entirely! :D Good video though!

  • This is a fantastic resource for level one students, a nice mix of vocabulary, exercises for receptive skills and good explanations!

  • @cudgybudgie hello, thanks for the positive feedback I hope it helps people further their studies. thanks Sonia
