Wow this can really be the next gen for indie film makers who want to go HD, just record in 4K, then down convert it to 1920x1080. And then they will have a great looking film.
@Shokkaz Thanks! Now i got it! Yeh just found out about RED not so long ago. Amazing stuff. Just recently I been getting deeper into digital cinematography. Any suggestions of where I can learn more?
good camera with a few problems, shame the company behind the red have there heads up there arses,
they fail to reply to potential customers, fail to be open and honest with prices
i tried really hard to be a customer of the Red and they have a poncey attitude towards people, hold out a little bit longer and sony and canon will have a camera the same for half the price
@Shokkaz So it fills a 1TB drive in a half hour.....awesome. Not to mention that a traditional hard drive (7200RPM, 32 megs of cache) has a throughput of only 100MB/s, 1/5th of that required for the RED Epic. The data storage alone will cost more than the camera.
@nuahsx Here is a (very incomplete) list of features shot on RED: - Knowing (Nicholas Cage) - The Book of Eli (Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman) - District 9 - The Informant (Matt Damon) - Gamer (Gerard Butler) - Che (Benecio Del Toro) - Beyond a Reasonable Doubt (Michael Douglas) It has also been used for some of the shots in: - Night at the Museum 2 - Angels and Demons - The Lovely Bones Also being used to shoot Pirates of the Caribbean 4 (On Stranger Tides) with Johnny Depp.
i remember hearing that RED footage is a pain in the butt to work with for reason I was never told. I'll stick with £100 camcorders till I know what the hell I'm doing lol
HD is 1920 pixels wide. Red one is 4,000. Data is recorded nearly uncompressed using reds own redcode RAW codec. Not HDV or some flavor of MPEG 2 long gop or DVCPROHD like the P2 cameras. The red one now has friends, scarlet and epic. I will be on the list!!
why is a video about an EPIC camera in FREAKEN 360p???

@Shokkaz Then again, RED's next camera EPIC, will have a variation called EPIC 617, 28,000 × 9,334 (28k)
for $53,000 with a data-rate of half a GIG per second! CAN'T wait to see that!

Smooth editing starts when you spend thousands of dollars on a supercomputer to edit the footage. There's no 4:3 on RED.

I've read it's 12 megapixels, that means vertical image res is 3000.
wow I guess you'll need a 4000x3000 LCD or led TV to edit the footgae at it's native Red res.
groundctrl77 2 years ago
ops that should be 4520 X 2540 to be 16:9 wide aspect.
4000x3000 is 4:3.
groundctrl77 2 years ago
Red Epic have 261 Megapixels :O :D
