  • I do a lot of boxing which is 80% foot work, it seems the sword is the same. Foot postioning is paramount for each correct stroke.

  • isn't that a little redundant

    a katana...sword?

  • so, something i dont understand about this blade style, i was trained on a longsword, we bent our knees to allow more spring when we move, it made it so we could move much faster, but with this, his legs are just about straight, would that not mean that he would be slower than i in a fast step?

  • @Heartless4974 not nessisarily. your supposed to slightly bend your knees i dont know why he didnt...but the sword itself doesent take alot of force to cut something. especially flesh.

  • @gaurdian3012 this is true i know, but its not for cutting force, we lower our stance to add balence and movement speed, i would like to meet up with someone trained in the katana to duel with them, i would like to see 1st hand the difference it makes.

  • why is a random truck driver teaching this..?

  • @guitarnukka724 ahahhahahahahaha

  • wow...they only said you pull toward yourself to cut more flesh and bone...you pull toward yourself because you're allowing gravity to take over and make the cut easier. you can cut the same amount of human swinging the sword like a bat, but starting the strike closer to the guard, then drawing the rest of the blade toward you while continuing the cut allows less energy to be wasted.

  • My eyes, they burn!!!

  • oh my.. good explanation.. it war really helpfull tq verymuch

  • i clicked away as soon as i saw the lame "stabbing" at the start of the video

  • The guy in blue is terrible. 1:13 What the hell is this grip? Someone already mentioned how his stance sucks and he put his gi on wrong. I've seen better technique from little kids playing with sticks.

  • @beezle13 Ok, Well, you and that other person are wrong. Imagine, if you will, a guard where he has his left hand placed. His hand would be up against a guard. His right hand is putting power into the stab while the left hand guides it. He only uses two fingers because if he would grip it entirely, it would be very uncomfortable.

  • @Helmers9 Ok, first of all, you don't guide a sword with two fingers unless you want your sword knocked out of your hands. And his left hand is past where the guard would be. Also, the purpose of the guard is to GUARD your hand from another sword that could slide down and cut you, not to push with. And the way his right hand is holding it he's not getting much power out of it anyways. You use both hands to thrust.

And I'm not wrong, he IS wearing his gi wrong. That's how you

  • @beezle13 Ok, from when I posted my first response I have looked at more videos of katana technique videos. I was wrong about what I said about the guard, or the tsuba, was wrong, but the tsuba isn't for preventing another sword from cutting your hand, it's for preventing your own hand to slide up and cut yourself. I do see what you mean about the sword getting knocked out of your hand, but

    1. His back hand would keep it from dropping.

    2. If you didn't have a clear shot for a stab, you wouldn't.

  • @beezle13 Either way, this video isn't really good. Check out NinjaLearningNetwork. They have many more techniques other than just katana use.

  • @Helmers9 At least we agree that this is not a good video. :)

  • imagine ur standing right there, with ur cool katana and someone throws a throwing dagger. Unarmored ppl suck :P even samurai

  • @HoBBiTNL66619 samurai are armored just not enough then again when is there EVER enough armor.

  • @chamochalk when you won't be able to walk...

  • @Gotcha1234Mariok so so true

  • @HoBBiTNL66619 that is why you should be a good dodger and always have nice reflexes...

  • @HoBBiTNL66619 Umm, if you have a katana in someone's face, how much do you want to bet that someone'll have enough time to use a throwing knife? And if it's a long range throw, good luck getting an accurate enough shot and vantage point. Plus, one throwing knife isn't enough to kill a samurai with armor on that the knife might penetrate, but not enough to get a fatal shot. And if you miss the first throw, good luck getting the second one when the target is moving.

  • Very bad... Very bad!!!

  • Um...the guy in blue wears the japanese shirt the wrong way. Only dead people wear it like that....

  • kill bill

  • This guy's stance is bad and his swing's lack....

  • Materials needed

    - Practice Katana

    - Training Partner

    - Training Space

    - Someone who has ten more years of experience with a katana

  • @razorsedge555 you really dont need the last one...people make their own techniques everyday...as for a partner all you need is a test dummy

  • @BxBaNgEr828 You don't even really need a partner unless you were going to spar with your weapons.

  • @BxBaNgEr828 People training in budo/iaido/kobudo/kenjutsu have at least a lineage of material based on sword fighting. People making "their own techniques everyday" have a lineage based on star wars kid.

  • @razorsedge555 not everybody. theres all sorts of different styles man. not every swordsman with the same technique have the same styles. i meant to say styles not techniques i always get words twisted unfortunately..

  • @razorsedge555 - 911 On speed dial.

  • isn't this kendo?

  • @Aldurnamiyanrandvora kendo is practise for using a real katana.......

  • @oliviaaroseee Practice? And no it is not AT All...Everyone ignore the comment "Kendo is Practice for using a real katana....."(By Aldurnamiyanrandvora) That is not true at all.

  • Has Bill studied Japanese sword under a teacher - i dont think so.

  • @bujinsakura what if he is the teacher...... :[]

  • @jason200912

If he is the teacher then this makes it even worst than it looks
