most underrated song on the album IMO. On another note, I always thought that Jeru and Afu should've made an album together. They could've been like a "hybrid shaolin" version of Nas and AZ.
Neva even heard of Afu-Ra til my homey just sent this one to me, this is too ill. This is the essence of Hip-Hop. Homey kinda slightly reminds me of Canibus... his rhyme schemes and ill content.
@ThaYoungCityBandit Jeru The Damaja - Ya Playin' Yaself is the song!!!!! Check out jeru's album 'Wrath Of The Math' also entirely produced by DJ Premier!!! Peace
Cheers dude but I know the "Knowledge, wisdom, understanding" bit is from Ya Playin' Yaself, same way the "Uprising, surprising" lyric is from Afu-Ra's Whirlwind Thru Cities, but nobody knows where the actual beat is sampled from.
I don't write comments... but listenup peoples. If you clicked on that link... and the following audio allowed ones-self to be taken away like "Hot DAMN, that's nastily healthy for my past and presently there's nothing better to blast loud and heavily" then welome to the land of the dieing bread of amazing hip-hop. You GOTTA spread this stuff, cause mainstream is pissing us all off I'm sure.
if hiphop was ever represented on a wheaties box it would be jeru and his protege afu-ra. this kind of sound is not only good for ones growth and overall healh but effective in mental experience and growth. amen? it even burns calories just listening true>? the ultimate verbal calisthenic
@Wilshy true that man iw as looking at a premo insturmental and some kid was saying how he thinks that timbaland produvces better beats and is better and its like permo is the best producer in the buisness
Everything Premier touches is destined to become amazing. Its too bad he and Guru don't collab anymore as Gangstarr, hip-hop would be so much better nowadays :/. There is a lot of ill underground hip-hop around nowadays if you know where to look though, the mainstream is horrible though. Mainstream rap = on par with Jonas Brothers.
@Wilshy yet DJ Premier is the one who produced for Christina Aguliera... dont be afriad to broaden your horizons and think outside the constraints given to you by those who created those divisive boundaries.
Premo is nasty. Look at how he carried that Group Home album. Turned two weak MC's into a duo with a classic album. "Nas Is Like" "Defeat" "21 Years" "The Best Part" "Outta Here" "D'Evils" "Represent" "1,2 Pass It" "up Against The Wall (Getaway Car Mix" those are just straight bangers and that's only naming a few. He even made Ludacris, who I think is one of the worst rappers ever, look Ok with a bangin beat on "MVP". Will Hip-hop ever become good again?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This is one hip-hop used to actually be good. Premo is the truth. Everything he blesses with abeat becomes a banger. I am really upset about how terrible hip-hop is now. I think of it more as "hip-pop." Soulja Boy is a disgrace and Weezy is the most overrated rapper of all time. I don't know why everyone loves Weezy. He's got a coupla OK tracks like "La,La,La" and "Malcolm X" but that is it and his lyrics are terrible.
