  • Where Do People Get Those Wonderful Costumes?

  • i love your videos! may i ask what program you use to edit your videos? it's beautiful...

  • Visually fabulous...

  • Like this

  • It doesn't seem to me to be "Edwardian" at all, but Goth. Too much makeup, to much exposed parts, no hats and few gloves. And the circus acts would not have been permitted.

  • Did 4:27 make anyone think of The Night Circus? It's spot on with the colors, everything in this video is what I imagine going to the Night Circus is like!

  • ¢¤¥«°§£¥§€+©

  • aka "Why cooperation with San Francisco is impossible.flv"

  • I didn't know Eyes Wide Shut was for real.

  • I typed in YouTube balls ha and this is where it took me.... WTF???

  • Wow this is the first time I come across this, it looks very beautiful I want to go, have to research more

  • WISH I COULD HAVE BEEN THERE! IT ALWAYS LOOKS AMAZING!

  • STUNNINGLY FABULOUS... ALOHAS

  • I'd like to know the name of the black haired girl seen at 4:05, plz. I think I might have possibly just seen my future ex-wife.

  • Look at mark rockin the double rainbow

  • so elaborate! It's beautiful!

  • What an extremely cool event, and I LOVE the way you shoot, Mark!

  • I do wish that you would use some of the music actually being played at the events at some point, as I simply cannot imagine what genre it would be!

  • @moscowmasha Do a search for Rosin Coven or Jill Tracy.... they both performed. When I am shooting, I'm not always filming for long, uninterrupted periods, so the audio would have gaps and not flow particularly smoothly...

  • @MarkDayComedy

That makes sense. I think that it'd be cool, though, if at some point you recorded a full performance and then used it as the background music for a video. Or you could ask the artists for permission to use their music. Since you do so much with the Vau de Vire society, it seems like it would work out well for everyone involved.

Not trying to be pedantic or anything, as your videos go far beyond anything I could make!

  • @moscowmasha I just posted an out-takes clip on my Markdayresponse channel with music from Rosin Coven, who performed......

  • @moscowmasha Here's a very small clip of Jill Tracy at the ball, but video quality low.

  • my props to the Turk and the soldier in the pith helmet. They are virtually the only people in the entire video that understand the Edwardian era. The rest are just attention seeking exhibitionists who feel like black makeup and lace are all anyone wore before 1960.

  • @hojo118 Those are great outfits! Fortunately the "Edwardian" name has always been, by design, both an era reference and a play on Edward Gorey's art. Thus the range for costume interpretation has always been wide open and inclusive, and people keep pushing the boundaries in all directions.

  • That is either some incredibly well-synthesized music or the cleanest orchestra and recording I've heard in ... possibly ever.

  • Bravo sir! Your fantastic footage makes a strong case for future attendance of both nights. I intend to repost this via my Burning Man themed fashion blog.

  • I love the brilliant Fairs you go to! /envious

  • This was brilliant. I love the parts where people are posing for a still shot while you're actually taking video!

  • Amazing footage. You should post info for future events you might attend, they all look so interesting!

  • WHERE ARE THE HATS THAT LOOK LIKE RABID BIRDS ATTACKING A DINNER PLATTER???

That's seriously the best part of Edwardian costume. If the men around you aren't getting facefulls of ostrich feathers every time you wade through a crowd, what's the point?

  • im guessing this event took place in San Francisco. does it take place there every year?

  • That was a simply splendid video sir!! And I obviously need 2 be @ a subsequent Edwardian Ball!!

  • WOW!!!!!!!!

  • Is that all hand-held or do you use anything to help minimize camera shake? I've been having trouble getting smooth video from a 60D. Thanks for sharing!

  • @RabbidWombatXL I have a Zacuto target shooter gunstock style stabilizer. I also use a Z-finder for focus. Both are kind of expensive for what they are, but they help (as does holding under the lens, as opposed to over it. which took me a while to figure out......I came into video through camcorders....) Some of my older videos are just on a mono-pod , which can be pretty cheap and may be all you need....

  • You're into some trippy shit. That's all I can say.

  • Any way you could tell me specifically which song you used? I am loving it.

  • @wearebadluck nevermind, didn't read far enough

  • @wearebadluck I believe the song is Danse Macabre, Op. 40 by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns. 'Tis one of my favourites as well.

My thanks to Mark for sharing a world I wish I could be a part of.

  • I couldn't make it this year=( Thanks for posting some of the highlights!

  • it looks like an very cool and fun event

  • This video is amazing. It looks like something right out of Twilight.

  • @ZackScott What the hell!? That's a disgrace! I hope you're trolling..

  • incredible video! gave me chills... :)

  • Wow, why are there people wearing Tshirts? At least try people! You should go big or go home to something like this! I was more impressed with the people that dressed period and authentically rather than the people who were lets say elaborate but there were some great out fits in there!

  • that looks like so much fun. I want to go. You a member of the troupe or something?

  • Holy crap, fetishists.

  • what lens did you have with your 550D?

  • @Editor02Channel A 1.4 prime, and a 2.8 17-55mm for a few of the wider shots. I actually rented a 1.2L prime for the first night in the hope i could convince myself I could justify buying one, but it's heavy, slow-to-focus and not really suited to shooting video at that kind of things-moving-around event. I left it at home the second night -- there are a couple of shots in there with it, I'm sure.

  • I don't know weather to swoon with delight over your video or beard... I love the beard!

  • @TracyInsomiac There is one beard-centric video coming up soon-ish, but i'm afraid to say it's since been removed.....

  • Awesome video Mark! Thanks for highlighting KSW at the ball. We had a blast. I shot some video of our setup with my 5DMK2 (you got me at 0:57, checking the dynamo RPM with the tachometer), which was fine for what it was, but you always seem to be in just the right position for everything else. How did you get such a perfect spot for the can-can act? It was kind of a mob scene at times, so I can appreciate getting good footage in a dimly lit, dynamic environment like that. BRAVO.

  • @welchtc That is (for the benefit of anyone else reading) actually two nights edited together -- the mini ferris wheel was on ly there the first night and it was *crazy busy* the second night. I moved around *a lot* and that's six minutes edited down from a couple of hours of clips... I totally fluked out on being standing by the bar when the can-can dance happened, i was just lucky. The high stage for performances was not ideal for shooting rom the floor, mind you....

  • Looks like it was a ton of fun! I wish I could have been there.

This is something I would like my future wedding to be like.

  • Dear Sir,

Your videos are the hallmark of good taste, and the aperture of societal norms. A gentleman such as myself, thoroughly enjoys watching them.

    Regards,

    Faust
