  • thats definatly a supercharger u dont usually see in a miata. How many psi were u running?

  • I believe around 7-8. It's been over a year since I sold the car, so don't remember for sure.

  • I am impressed with just how well it sticks in the corners - I just bought a totally stock '99 mk2 1.8 and it is very tail-out happy, especially when the road is damp. Do you think it is down to my stock 15" wheels and tyres? What were you running here? Thanks in advance - any suggestions you can give to stop me going sideways in the rain would be appreciated! :D

  • The car had a pretty good suspension set up. It had bilstien adjustable coilovers, and all the other odds and ends like polyurethane bushings. The wheels were stock 16" with pretty sticky falken azenis tires. 15" wheel size is just fine, Spec Miata race cars use a 15" wheel (probably not stock wheel since its heavy)... you just need sticky rubber. If you want REALLY sticky, get an R compound tire. FYI, Spec Miata cars use Toyo R888 (205/50R15) tires and those SOBs fly!!!

  • Thanks a whole lot for the reply. I got a screw right on the shoulder of one of my NSR tyre today! How providential - the MX5 must have sensed me talking tyres and decided that it wanted them sooner :D The Toyos sound nice! I'm also looking at Falken ZE912s, which seem very reasonably priced. I'll look out for uprated shocks and bushes too! Thanks again - it was very kind of you to take the time to respond and I appreciate it, as well as your enthusiasm!

  • @CrumpledHen I think that might be your blown shocks, a bone stock miata handles really well. Get some sticky rubber, new shocks and alignment. If it still doesn't work for you, put a after market sway bar in the front....if still don't work........check your driving . Orrrr check your driving before you put money into anything, have another miata guy to drive your car, see if there is anything funny with your suspension

  • the only problem I had was the crank angle sensor would have problems (typical failure of these cars) when it the temp was over 50 F and I was running it on the track after about 2-3 laps or during a hard canyon run.... but once that got replaced, no problems at all.

  • Not sure exactly, but would explain why they didn't add an intercooler to this kit. I would call VF Engineering directly and ask them, they are friendly and helpful people.

  • very nice set-up. Question, Is there such thin as a CARB legal intercooler? Been looking for one and can't seem to be able to find one.
