that usually means you're switching the disk too late. if it just spins up with no other noise at all, then too early. if its done correctly, it should load the second disk within just a few seconds
the disc will still be spinning spin. test your iso in an emulator. if it stops at the same spot, then sounds like a problem from there. go back and remake the iso. if the same go back further.
If They aren't careful and apy attention to what they're doing. If it get stuck, don't force it, go slow, back up and try again. that way it's less painful. (for your ps2...)
do you realize that swap magic is the same thing? The only difference is they give you a boot disk that tells you when to switch the disk. then you still use a slide card to forcefully open the tray. They have disclaimers as well, saying they aren't responsible if you break it.
They're right, you know. This /does/ damage PS2's. I'm not condoning nor condemning usage of this, I'm just saying. SwapMagic is a heckuva lot safer, because it actually /stops/ the disc from spinning completely.
What other swaps are there? You basically swap to play a copied game, right? So All that's happening is you're swapping a backup that's been "adjusted"
that sounds like a timing issue. i think you might be opening the tray a little early. could be wrong tho. it different timing for each console for when you open. just try waiting longer or less till you find it.
well i have a problem i have a backup game burned on a memorex DVD-R and i did ur method and i do open the tray with the slide tool and then havin trouble to lock it back with the slide tool, but here is the thing when i closed the tray hard the noise is gone and it is starting reading the disk and then the screen is black, any suggestions???
i can pop the disk tray out with the slide tool but when i put my custom disk in and push the tray in it doesn't feel like i am latching onto the pin to pull back to the left. but when i push the eject it ejects fine and even works when i put the original cd back in.
its not the timing since ive tried 100s of times at different times and im pretty sure i used a sony dvd-r and created the game correctly.
when you open the disk tray hold the slide tool in the exact spot you pulled from. switch with your free hand and close. holding your hand there keeps the tool lined up with the locking pin. get used to the feel of where it is and you can find it everytime.
it's a homemade slide tool. its used to unlock the disk tray so i can pull it open. if you hit the eject button the system resets. look for tutorials on youtube.
theorhetically it SHOULD work, but it would have to be the same game. the boot files are made specially for each game size etc. etc. otherwise trial and error. what's a few lost discs to increasing your knowldge?
lol. the reason why swapping GH 1 or 2 (dunno about 3 yet) works, is because it's the same game. all of the games formatting etc. is copied with exception of the songs being replaced. that waywhen it load the system file for the original disc, the backup reads the same way. something along those lines anyway
Okay? So just how is this proof? For all we know, you could have the PS2 already modded, or, if you where really wanting to fool a bunch of morons- You could've just put in a real copy of GH1 or 2.
Ok Im pretty sure I have got the timming since I can get the red octane symbol on my screen.. but then nothing happens after that. I've followed the methods of burning the custom DVD EXACTLY and still nothing.
5 switch, but let the lens make it noise 5 times before closing.
as i've said though. the condition of each console can vary a little. time when you see the logo to when you switch. mine was 12 sec, but others are near 9
swapping time can vary a little per console, but it's somewhere around eleven to thirteen seconds for the fatties. the slim-lines are closer to 8 sec. gotta feel for it. know your PS2 and figure out its weakspot.
roughly it's just making a backup and swapping it with the original. don't know if naruto would work to swap with GH, but another naruto game maybe could be used as a boot disc for the import. just have to figure out the timing for it.
it depends if you're rough with it. mostly people just pop their tray off it's track. but it IS possible to break the locking pin under the tray. if that breaks that it. you need it repaired or have to buy a fliptop case.
i keep worrying mine's gonna go soon too. just out of age. I've logged alot of hours on it. plus there's been a few night that i've fallen asleep with it on........ don't know why dragon quest 8 puts me to sleep....
number of reasons. if the tray wroks AND locks shut. then you may have mis-aligned gears.check online for tutorial on fixing dvd playback. it's basically a gear thats off by a few teeth.
while you have the tray open, it WILL keep making that sound. i usually close it after FIVE squeeks. doesn't seem to matter if you wait too long while its open, so long as you'd opened at the right time.(in my head, at least) it seemed to fail more often when i would rush switching the disk and closing the tray before those 5 squeeks. could be wrong, but that's why you shouldn't rush anyway.
well I haven't been able to do it even once yet and it only takes me about five seconds to do it without rushing. But when I close it, it keeps making that noise. Any help?
I tried your method several times and I believe I have everything timed correctly. However when I put my backup copy of gh2 in, nothing happens (screen stays blank). I'm thinking it may be an error in the backup disc but if you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

when customizing, are you using dvd_gen and apache to rebuild it??
Apache will take a while to build the iso and alot of people just close it without noticing the loading bar at the bottom. check other people's similar problems
depends what you replaced. mines large cuz i added some longer songs. so it doesn't matter too much. double check if your iso is working in the PCSX2 emu. its slow, but if it boots to a menu it works. otherwise it's happening at the swap.
heya, im still trying this on mine, one thing though, my PS2 takes like 30 seconds to load a CD because its reallly old, you think i should still be able to do this if i time it right?
First thought would be to run a disk cleaner through it a couple of times. alot of times its just a dirty lens. otherwise it'll still be down to the units timing.
wait so what the hell is this doing. are u just putting the real guitar hero in and swaping it with a disk that has modifyed songs so u can play it or are u making another copy of the game i cant tell
okay i tried this i download all the programs on my computer and finaly i put the real copy of the game in and my computer didnt read it. it says theres no disk
first thought..... do you have a DVD burner? if so, then the drive's screwed up. if not, the games is a dvd, so you'd need a dvd burner to read and write a copy.
Is there a certain type of DVD-R that i have to use, cus it just isn't working for me. I mean i've had all of these problems, but at points it makes a squeaky noise once, like its loading a disc, but then nothing happens. I'm pretty sure i've done all of the steps right, but it's still not working correctly.
I had begun with a store brand, but wondered why it sucked...... So i dished out a little extra and bought the sony DVD-R and have never had a single problem with them. The expensive disks are worth it for the quality.
did you even read the description? I clearly wrote and have stated in other posts that I used the original GH2 disk to boot and switched it with a customized copy. the reason it looks "orange" is because i have a "d-skin" er on the back of the disk. It's there in hopes of minimizing the disk scratching.
first off, stay calm. now, do you mean you aren't able to pull the tray open or push the button to open it? if pushing the button, there's a chance that you just popped the tray off it's track and jammed it. that's fixable. close the tray if you can and make sure the locking pin is still there. if it is then you're ok. you might only need to open the PS2 to pop the tray back in place.
I just posted a video response of how to do it without a slide card or anything and it is all free. I borrowed techniques from the slim ps2 video. Good luck.
while it is true that opening the system and switching by the laser timing works; not everyone is able to do so, or willing. or they risk more by messing something critical up. though my method takes a lil more guess work, it doesn't involve having to keep your console open to spilled sodas etc. or just having to keep opening and closing it.
open the tray, power off ps2(tray still open), remove small screw on bottom of faceplate. pop off at clip at each end. careful, cuz they're easy to break.
need to know where or when you're getting jammed. if possible when switching, use one hand to open.keep that hand with the slide card in the place you pulled it open from, switch the disc with your other hand.when you close the card should be in the exact spot it will need to be to close because you kept it there. help at all?
Hey, i made a video on how to do this with slim, if you feel like it, you might want to make a link to it in your description, so you won't get as many questions on it, i linked to this video from mine for people who have fattys.
slide tool can be risky

2 things:
1 - the disk isnt spinning when you use Swap Magic, so the slide card doesnt open it while the ps2 is working.
2 - i have a thin ps2, so i dont have to worry about slide cards.

lol. the reason why swapping GH 1 or 2 (dunno about 3 yet) works, is because it's the same game. all of the games formatting etc. is copied with exception of the songs being replaced. that waywhen it load the system file for the original disc, the backup reads the same way. something along those lines anyway

lman2004 4 years ago
First thought would be to run a disk cleaner through it a couple of times. alot of times its just a dirty lens. otherwise it'll still be down to the units timing.

wait so what the hell is this doing. are u just putting the real guitar hero in and swaping it with a disk that has modifyed songs so u can play it or are u making another copy of the game i cant tell
astrosfan11dcs 4 years ago
I'm starting With the original game and switching it with exact copy of the game, except i switched the songs on the copy.
ZeanChronolis 4 years ago
okay i tried this i download all the programs on my computer and finaly i put the real copy of the game in and my computer didnt read it. it says theres no disk
astrosfan11dcs 4 years ago
first thought..... do you have a DVD burner? if so, then the drive's screwed up. if not, the games is a dvd, so you'd need a dvd burner to read and write a copy.

thanks alot bro it worked ur the best

Is there a certain type of DVD-R that i have to use, cus it just isn't working for me. I mean i've had all of these problems, but at points it makes a squeaky noise once, like its loading a disc, but then nothing happens. I'm pretty sure i've done all of the steps right, but it's still not working correctly.

I had begun with a store brand, but wondered why it sucked...... So i dished out a little extra and bought the sony DVD-R and have never had a single problem with them. The expensive disks are worth it for the quality.
ZeanChronolis 4 years ago
i did that and i'm still having problems
meatwad21121 4 years ago
You cheated!!!! you took out a red disk and put in the original! you cant hide it any longer.
NfsCarbon26 4 years ago
did you even read the description? I clearly wrote and have stated in other posts that I used the original GH2 disk to boot and switched it with a customized copy. the reason it looks "orange" is because i have a "d-skin" er on the back of the disk. It's there in hopes of minimizing the disk scratching.

Does the disc tray have to be fully open????
cause i cant mine fully open im scared i might break the disk tray!
wesler10 4 years ago
and when i tried it the damn tray didnt open!!! fuck@!!
wesler10 4 years ago
first off, stay calm. now, do you mean you aren't able to pull the tray open or push the button to open it? if pushing the button, there's a chance that you just popped the tray off it's track and jammed it. that's fixable. close the tray if you can and make sure the locking pin is still there. if it is then you're ok. you might only need to open the PS2 to pop the tray back in place.

no like i coudlnt pull the tray open with the slide card please help me!!
wesler10 4 years ago
I just posted a video response of how to do it without a slide card or anything and it is all free. I borrowed techniques from the slim ps2 video. Good luck.

while it is true that opening the system and switching by the laser timing works; not everyone is able to do so, or willing. or they risk more by messing something critical up. though my method takes a lil more guess work, it doesn't involve having to keep your console open to spilled sodas etc. or just having to keep opening and closing it.

How do you take the ps2 logo plate thing off?
meatwad21121 4 years ago
open the tray, power off ps2(tray still open), remove small screw on bottom of faceplate. pop off at clip at each end. careful, cuz they're easy to break.

Help! when I put my custom disc into my ps2, my slide card gets jammed into the ps2. Any help would be much appreciated!
AmishChief 4 years ago
need to know where or when you're getting jammed. if possible when switching, use one hand to open.keep that hand with the slide card in the place you pulled it open from, switch the disc with your other hand.when you close the card should be in the exact spot it will need to be to close because you kept it there. help at all?

Hey, i made a video on how to do this with slim, if you feel like it, you might want to make a link to it in your description, so you won't get as many questions on it, i linked to this video from mine for people who have fattys.

no matter what i try, i get a black screen
inline629 4 years ago
it ALL in the timing. if you hear constant lens noises on that black screen, then you need to switch earlier.
ZeanChronolis 4 years ago
ok so it worked for the first couple times and now it wont load the red octane thing i only get a black screen help please

Check if the iso loads correctly with pcsx2. if it does then either it's rthe media you're using or when you're swapping
