i like it on the roof looks good im building one myself when im done ill show every thing from pump to shut off valves maybe even do a tempiture reading from my shower i used a water heater tank i got it from my next door friend he had to buy a new one it has a small hole in it i will sand her down and fix leak then ill prime the tank and paint her up nice black then work on fram and so on.
im building the same sort of water heater now...im going to hook mine to my electric water heater that way i fill my existing heater with already heated water..this should enable me to have a backup when the sun isnt cooperating
The boxes are make of plywood skinned with a aluminum flashing, painted black and sized for the single glazed sliding glass door panels. The boxes are attached to the roof with door hinges.
The glass door panels are attached to the boxes with door hinges as well.
No pumps necessary. I currently have cold water going directly to the tanks and the afternoon hot water going directly to the house. The water heater is turned off.
There is lots of info on how to make a system, but very little on where to get the parts.... I mean affordable parts, like used tanks (what kind and where to get them. If a pump is needed, what kind? Particle things like that would be very helpful. By the way, thats a very nice system you have.
The winters are mild with the temp below 32 occasionally in January.

Well done,
At the moment I have obnly the tank painted black, installed on the roof and the results are already there.
I have two tanks to store the hot water, a small pump that circulates the water from time to time in the closed system.
Right now I need some time to buld an isolated box to increase efficiency.

The tanks are from used water heaters.
