I understand the artistic and anti social reasons for wearing the mask but it doesn't really defeats the purpose. Because by wearing masks they even get more famous. Plus all the mystery that is attached to it gets them publicity. I am sure they really thought about this as a marketing plan. They spend so much time creating those masks also. It is more than just a way of hiding from the media or putting less empathizis on their person.

There may have been a long time ago before record deals and limelight. Now, Slipknot is a gimmick that makes Great and Sick Ass Music. And before you lose it, IT FUCKING WORKS...OK!! So take it easy. The interviewer said they've had many line up changes? Other than the evolution of the line-up prior to the debut album's initial release, they haven't had a line-up change. Another thing, why does E V E R Y interviewer feel the need to ask where the masks came from? It's gets rediculous hearing the same answer to the same question for over a decade. I love seeing Clown interviews because he gives straight and honest answers. In the advent of Paul's death, hopefully the 9 will continue.

Shawn is puts so much efforts in slipknot you dont even realise it. on stage but also a hell of alot outside that. with that he has side projects. he has a busy life. and with that he and joey are the ones that moslty do the talking in intervieuws and stuff.

@marshmallow117 - I think I can help you out there. I have always considered Shawn one of the most important members. Clown is everything for Slipknot. Without Clown there literally is no concept of Slipknot 'the band.' It would have never been. He is a major (but not the only) part of the artistic direction of the band. The vibe, the philosophy... it all comes from Clown's energy. It's his brainchild. He embodies it. That's aesthetically what he is for the band.

Continuing - Musically Shawn does quite a bit for the band also. He is one of the three percussionists that fill out the sound that gives Slipknot a more unique sound in their genre. Sometimes playing on his normal rig of sort of Timpany style drums and steel keg. He (along with Chris) add the dark percussion sound that Slipknot would just sound unbelievable empty without in most cases...

He's an auxiliary percussionist that adds an extra element. For example, in some of the *newer* stuff [Vol.3 & beyond] where he and Chris use marching snare drums for a cool change in 'The Blister Exists,' among other songs. Also both Chris and Shawn do all of the backing vocals. Live & on all album recordings with the current line-up, I believe. I could go on. He does more than, as you crudely put it, "just hits a bin with a baseball bat twice every few songs," MAJOR fan.
