It's practically offensive to hear the comments chime in that Viktor Bout doesn't deserve to be convicted based on the scale of his wrong doings and trafficking operations. Anyone who has fuelled or even befriended those responsible of the horrible atrocities that occur in modern African tribal warfare (Liberia, Uganda, Sierra Leone) should be outright convicted, and brought to some form of justice.

Even if weapons trade is a nasty business. this guy is just a middleman between supply and demand. Removing him from the process doesn't stop either the sale, nor the acquisition of weapons. Also, I can imagine that "illegal" weapon trade is just a matter of point of view, and variable in time. There were times when Iraq was a welcome customer of the US military industry, and, hop, before you know it, trading with Iraq is illegal.
